Chapter 6: Haunting Moments.

"Yes, it was me, Abbey. But nobody can see my face in the news…" Genevieve spoke on her phone, applying the light coloured lipstick on her pouty lips.

The news of Nathan Blackmark carrying a girl was in the news but the face of the woman was hiding behind his tailored suit.

She was safe in this somehow...but Nathan Blackmark?

His reputation is slightly affected until the breaking news and magazines suddenly vanished and no one from the media talked about it again.

"Who do you think did that? Was it your Blackmark boss?" Abbey's curious voice came from the other side of the phone and Genevieve stared herself in the small mirror.

"Genevieve? Aren't you going to the office today?" the old lady asked in a loud tone.

Tying her hair in a half ponytail, she walked out of the bedroom and answered, "Yes, I'm just going."

"Good thing...child. You don't need to fear anything.  You are my brave little girl…"

Genevieve, of course, had not any fear regarding the nightmare she saw but the fact that she forcefully kissed her boss.

She has to submit her resignation letter today because her boss won't even let her work there.

The moment she arrived at the company, everything was normal.

He indeed has been assuring herself that no one knows about it but that two per cent she was unsure about...made the drumming sound of her heart echo to her ears.

Taking a deep breath when Genevieve Harper walked in the elevator, the door slowly began to close when she pressed the button until it was being interrupted.

Genevieve noticed the shoe...a man's shoe was stopping the elevator to close its door.

Then a moment passed and the door slowly opened, her eyes met him and she felt the butterflies fluttering around in her stomach.

The feeling of getting caught off guard was apparent when the heat crept along on her face.

"Hiding, are we?" he gave her a cold look to suspicion and said menacingly.

"M...My Lord…" she buried her eyes down to the floor and spoke in a terrified stuttering tone.

Stepping in, he pressed the button and the door of the elevator was closed by now.

It was a tight space between Genevieve and Nathan. His strong cologne made her breath a little more troublesome.

"Ms Harper, what is this behaviour?" he asked in a low voice then continued, "You took two days off without even notifying anyone."

After a pause, he added, "What are you trying to do, Ms Harper?"

"Guilty as charged?"

This made her turn her neck to face him and with a confident look, she retorted, "No, my Lord. I don't know why the fuck should all of us call you Lord but I'm not guilty…" he cuts her off responding, "Meaning, you enjoyed the kiss, didn't you?"

"No, I didn't. But Nathan Blackmark, fire me if you want to. I was drunk and not to forget it was you who came after me!"

Lifting both of his eyebrows in astonishment he uttered, "Oh? That's how you cover yourself, Ms Harper?"

The elevator was being stopped deliberately by the arrogant boss, Nathan Blackmark and there was nothing she could do.

He took his steps towards her, each step resonating purpose.

She gulped still looking him directly in the eyes when he spoke, "Trying to look confident, Ms Harper...but in reality, both of us know how loud your heart is beating…"

"I…" she had just parted her lips to speak when he cuts her off blurting out, "There's no time for me to listen to your nonsense, Ms Harper. So go to my cabin and rearrange the files I've left for you…"

Finishing his sentences maintained the distance with her leaving her space to breathe.

Wait, what?

Knitting her eyebrows in confusion, she mumbled, "How did you know I am going to come back?"

"The needy...Ms Harper comes back every time."

His tone filled with pride as he pressed the button and the elevator began to work again.

When it stopped on the floor where she wanted to go, she stepped out...looking back at him she noticed a satisfying smile on his face as he leaned back to the wall, both of his hands in his pocket.

"But...sir….my Lord. Where are you going?" she asked right the moment when the door of the elevator began to close again and he uttered, "You forget but I remember... Ms Harper. We have a meeting with Mr Lopez…" winking in her direction he waved her goodbye and she stood there dumbfounded.

Genevieve walked to her seat when Lucy stopped her saying, "Girl! Where are you at?"

"Oh, Lucy…" her smile was disarming.

"Where were you for the last two days? My Lord would be very angry at you…" mentioned Lucy.

"Uh...I met him on the way coming here… and I told him the matter." Genevieve was being honest here.

"Oh, okay. I hope all is good...anyways, my Lord has asked you to go through the files."

"He went to the meeting without the assistants?" asked her.

"Yeah, he took…" Lucy was being interrupted by a worker who called her for some work and Genevieve stepped in the cabin.

She buried herself in the work, trying to forget the fact that she shamelessly blamed her boss.

Nathan and Raya Blackmark were having lunch with the clients when Mr Lopez came and was greeted by all of them.

"Welcome, Mr Blackmark...who is this gorgeous lady with you?"

"Another assistant, Mr Blackmark?" asked the other curious businessman.

"No offence but the first one was…" before Mr Lopez could complete his sentence, Nathan immediately retorted, "Meet Raya Blackmark, everyone…"

Raya let out a confident smile, she indeed was a beautiful woman and dressed in the red business suit she looked like a bold lady.

The gentlemen welcomed the lady with open arms and the business lunch went well when Nathan asked for some details.

"What if we all take a look at the site, first?" suggested Raya then she continued, "After all, Nathan has a farmhouse there."

"Sure... let's visit the site tomorrow. And Mr Blackmark, we want all files and the graphs relating to the place."

The meeting ended and the Blackmarks going back.

Raya who noticed Nathan was silent the whole way, she uttered, "My Lord...I'm so honoured that you brought me to the meeting today…"

"It's not for you, Raya. My assistant wasn't available so I brought you. You know how I am…" his answer was neutral.

Nathan had just stepped out of the SUV when Crawford, who was waiting for him whispered something in his ear and the colour of his face changed.

"What happened, Crawford?" Raya walked towards the men and asked unaware.

"Raya, go in," Nathan ordered before hopping back into the car with his bodyguard.

It was past lunchtime but Genevieve was just free with all the work and she sunk back on her chair.

In front of her were a hot cup of coffee and her favourite chocolate glazed doughnuts.

A few moments later when she parted her lips to take a sip of the coffee when Lucy came to inform, "Genevieve. Come on, the boss is calling us."

Cursing under her breath, she sighed deeply.

After working for nearly two hours and now she decided to have something when this pain in his boss is at it again.

Genevieve stood up to adjust her dress and walked towards the cabin of the boss.

She knocked on the door and stepped in, burying her head to the floor she spoke, "Yes, my Lord…"

"Genevieve Harper?" when hearing a sweet voice she lifted her head just to glare at the beautiful woman sitting on Nathan's chair.

"I am…" answered her.

"So, Lucy and Genevieve...as both of you are very close to our Lord. I want you to know a few things…"

She was sitting there as she was some kind of a ruler...crossing her leg onto another, chest out, look focused.

Her confidence was all she was playing at...a boss lady.

"He doesn't like his coffee too hot. Now which one of you presents him the coffee?" she asked, looking at Lucy then moving her neck to Genevieve, waiting to get an answer.

"I give him the coffee…" Genevieve responded politely.

Both Lucy and Genevieve had been standing with both of their hands joined together as in respect.

"One thing both of you must know...that our Lord cannot stand people who are late."

One thing Genevieve was unsure about...who is she anyway?

"You must be wondering about who I am...girls. I am Raya Blackmark. Nathan's wife…"

Hearing this the floor slipped off Genevieve's face. She wasn't expecting any of this.

She can't hurt or anything but this was unexpected.

The moron was married and yet he took advantage of her.

Well, technically...she was the one making the first move.

Does it matter, anyway?

"First Lady?"

"No one told me he was married."

"I mean, now both the husband and the wife are going to rule us?"

There Genevieve was venting about her feelings to her co-assistant Lucy while sorting all the files in the records room.

"Well, it doesn't change anything. Can it, Genevieve?" Lucy answers boringly.

She wasn't even interested in this but she kept a poker face, as if already bored of the work.

While Genevieve being the nosy one was curious about knowing the matter.

"Gen, I can't find the file no. 337."

"Who needs it?" Genevieve shrugged her shoulders casually.

She was bored...it was a pity that she has to work here.

Genevieve was never a working woman. And at the age of twenty-one, she was supposed to study or travel around.

And here she is, working under some pathetic arrogant people.

First, the pompous Lord and now his wife...sitting in the boss chair like a ruler.

"I think I forgot the file in the conference room...I will go and check…" Lucy stood up to walk when Genevieve blurted out, "Lucy...the conference is up! I'm not staying here alone…"

"I will be back in a minute…" assuring her, Lucy stepped out of the records room.

Taking a deep breath, Genevieve began to sort the files according to the numbers when a few moments had passed and the lights went out.

Suddenly she was startled and didn't know what to do.

"Hello?"

"Lucy?"

She called out immediately getting on her feet, Genevieve reached out to take her phone out and turned the screen towards the room.

As she had a small typing phone with no flashlight and the dim light coming from it was the only hope for it.

Her heart was drumming in her ears and the terrible feeling of being alone in the records room frightened her even more.

Gulping she took tiny steps forward, passing by the large wooden shelf she was hoping someone would come in.

"Hello!"

"Please help me!"

There was something she could not exactly notice but the light of her phone could not reach that level of the darkness.

She felt a movement...maybe there was a person there.

"Hello? Anybody there?" she asked in a shaky voice with ambling forward.

Another moment and she focused to look there was a pair of red eyes...the same eyes she saw in her dream.

Gasping, her eyes widened and she immediately took a few steps back.

Genevieve noticed the eyes getting closer to her so she turned around to strode away from them.

"Somebody! Anybody! Help me!"

When the pair of frightful red eyes were rushing towards her, her feet moved more rapidly.

Turning her neck she was still running when observed it was still following her, she put the light to see...nothing was there, only the pair of twinkling red eyes...but no figure.

It frightened her even more.

"Help me, please! I don't wanna die!" Genevieve finally reached the door and pushed the doorknob just to realise it was locked.

Her eyes were wide with anxiety, she continuously thumped on the door, yelling for someone to help her.

Then the next moment the door was being opened and she bumped into someone, she felt a strong pair of hands caught her waist.

For a moment she felt safe, panting and breathing for air she tucked her head to his chest.

She could feel he was a 'He' from his scent...and it was so familiar.

Her breaths we're so high that she could not even form a word out of her mouth.

Lifting her head, she glanced in his eyes and noticed the same pair of eyes...the eyes were blood red and the pupils were yellow, although nearly nonexistent.

Genevieve was in the arms of the darkness...the thing she feared...for the second time.
