MasukNIKOLAI RIDER
To everyone outside the dark world, it is merely a closedown bar, but to everyone who grows in the underworld, it is the haven for secret organizations and deal makers. The largest meeting house for Mafia lords and criminals. I press my thumb on the fingerprint reader and the door clicks open. I mutter a low curse as I glance at the time on the phone and flip the phone into my pocket. I push the door open and trudge in, cautiously walking along the red-colored corridor. Only people who are familiar with Los Pecadores Haven can find the right route among the confusing multiple corridors. I still remember the first time I was here, I kept running around in circles till I had no other choice but to call the ex-boss. Why in the world am I thinking about the past? This is unlike you, Nikolai Rider. I narrow my eyes and swing the small, almost invisible door open, marching down the creaking wooden stairs down into the main building of Los Pecadores Haven. "Welcome to the devil's underground," one of the bouncers standing by the door mutters and waves his hand towards the large hall. I ignore him like I always do and trudge in, putting on my mask. The red lights that shine in the large hall reflect the danger in it and also hide some dirty acts going on in here. I look around, scoffing in disgust as my eyes stumble on couples making out in a corner. Tom waves his hand from where he sat and I scoff before moving to meet him. "Hey, handsome!" A slut who seemingly looks drunk grabs my collar, forcing me to stop. I look down at her in disgust but the red mask covering her face makes me raise my brows. "Would you like a night? I will make you never want to get rid of me," she mutters in a sultry tone, her amber eyes glistening. I lean down to her height and grip her well-chiseled chin, our lips almost touching. I move my lips to her jeweled ear and bite her earlobe, earning an excited squirm from her. "No woman has ever made me keep her after a night. I wonder how you're going to prove to me that you're not one of those disposable whores," I whisper, and she giggles then wraps her hands around my neck, standing on her toes to speak into my ear. "That mystery is making this a sweet challenge and I'll never pass this challenge. Let's see who wins, handsome." I grin, enjoying her level of confidence. I grip her waist and pull her body against mine, squeezing her ass in the process. Lord, those plump cheeks are so soft! I glance over at Tom and smirk when I see his head, which is dropped to the side, shake in disbelief. "Will you come with me, doll?" I ask, and she tilts her head to the side and hums. She grabs a scotch from a tray and trails after me, staggering slightly. "Any news?" I ask as I grab a seat for myself. The lady didn't wait for anyone to advise her to grab a seat for herself. Sorry, I'm not the gentleman kind. "I managed to dispose of the body, but—" he stops and glances over my shoulder, his brown eyes staring keenly at the tipsy whore behind me. I crane my head backward and nod my head toward Tom. Everyone in the devil's underground already knows what to expect here. Money, sex, murders, and drugs are what to embrace. If you don't know these things, then you're not welcome here, and it's definite that you might not live this underground alive. "One of our boys was caught by the police some hours ago," Tom mutters, and I groan, throwing my head back. "Just call the sheriff," I mutter and Tom blinks repeatedly. I can tell from that blink that something else has gone wrong. "Well… the sheriff is getting transferred," he replies and I groan loudly, slamming my fist on the table. The lady behind me flinches, and the glass she is holding falls from her hand. I crane my head and stare at those terrified amber eyes. "What? doll, are you afraid?" I mutter in a mocking tone, eyeing her suspiciously. She chuckles lowly and shakes her head, her eyes glimmering. "Of course, I have to be afraid of this mystery man," she mutters and runs her hand along my exposed chest. Her eyes dart to my hands and I can tell from the movement of her eyes that she raised her brows in disgust. "Isn't that a wedding band, mystery man?" She asks, and I smirk. "What does it mean, huh?" She slurs. I can feel the disappointment hanging around her head. I lean closer, our masks rubbing against each other. "It means that I belong to no one," I mutter and from the opening in the mask, I watch her lips stretch into a relieved smile. I turn back and face Tom after seeing the satisfaction in her. "Was anything found on the boy?" I ask, and Tom sighs. That stupid sigh always triggers annoyance in me. "Some ammunition was found on him," Tom replies and I groan loudly. "Damn those bastards!" I spit out and gulp down a glass of vodka. "What to do, boss?" He asks and I frown deeply. "Do whatever you can to get the dumb dude out of there. Don't forget that if the asshole opens his mouth, then you'll become a fugitive," I snap, and his eyes widen in realization. "That's true," he whispers, running his hand through his sandy hair. "I gotta find a way to get that son of a bitch out of detention," he mutters and I narrow my eyes. "What else?" I ask, getting sick of the irrelevant issue. He looks over my shoulder again and sighs out before continuing. "Denison has some job for us," Tom says and I smirk, chuckling loudly. "What does he want now?" I ask and he sways a glass of liquor down his throat. "One of his men ran off with his chick," he murmurs and I scoff, full of disgust. "He wants to spend millions of dollars searching for a guy that ran off with his girl? That's kinda stupid," I reply, and he giggles. "That's not the real gist, boss. The son of a gun ran off with a whooping twenty million!" My brows raise and a smile creeps into my face. "Twenty?" I ask and Tom nods quickly. "Tell him that the pay is half of the money." A gasp escapes Tom's lips, and he drops his head, disagreement swerving in his eyes. "I don't he is going to agree—" "Then forget it?!" I snap and turn around, signaling an end to the headless conversation. "Alright then. I will get in touch with him and send your response," he mutters, and I nod my head in approval. "Would you like to meet some of the leaders? They are in the other room," he asks, swinging a glass of vodka in his hand. I narrow my eyes and scoff. "I am not interested," I reply and he raises his brows but says nothing. I gulp down another glass of the scotch and turn to face the little whore whose hands have been wrapped around my arm. I stagger up to my feet and grab the lady's hand then wrap my arm protectively around her waist. "Ugh… boss," Tom's voice forces me to stop and crane my neck in his direction. "What about Miss Peterson?" He asks, and anger floods through my veins, my eyes dimming in fury.KAITLYN A steady rhythmic beep keeps echoing in my head, but now I can hear something other than that. I can hear Loraine's sobs, and I can feel Ana’s hand pressed against my arm.I can feel my feet and my hands. I can also feel my own heartbeat and hear the slow, steady beat. All that is left is to overcome this darkness that I am submerged in.“I promise to come back,” a whisper sneaks into my mind, and my breath hitches in my throat. My lips part, and I suck in a deep breath and pull my eyes open.I gasp out and jerk up from the bed, letting the sharp light hit me violently.I tremble and squint my eyes, breathing heavily.“Kait!” Ana's shrill scream pierces my ears, and I wince.Loraine's hand grips mine, and she grabs my chin, turning my head on all sides.“You… you are awake,” she stutters, her eyes wide and full of tears.I slowly nod. My emotions are still numb, and I can't think clearly about what had happened earlier.I don't know if I should be happy or sad, but I do have
NIKOLAI I grab Marco by the hand and pull him towards my mother's tombstone.Heavy rain is falling, and the weather is cold as fuck, but neither of us cares about that.He is still bleeding from the gunshot, and he won't stop panting for breath. His other hand is pressed right against his bleeding belly, and the other clutches tight onto my shirt.“Why did you bury her in a place like this?” He blurts out when he looks up and darts his eyes around the environment.“It's none of your business!” I spit out with so much hatred eating me up.I continue to pull him towards the tombstone, neither of us saying a word until we reach the granite stone that had my mother's name engraved in it.I let go of Marco, and he drops to his knees. My chest tightens as I watch him stretch forth his hand and run his bloodstained fingers across the engraved names on the stone. My eyes dim when I hear his low whimpers as he caresses my mother's name.“I should have given up. I should have given up,” he whi
NIKOLAII push the large iron gates open and stumble in.Marco is sitting right on the ground, a gun in his hand.He glares at me with bloodshot eyes, seething with rage and fear.I am covered with blood from his men and rain. My palm is so glued to the black handle of the axe that I fear my flesh will tear out if I let go of the axe.I let out a breath and stagger forward, my head tilting to the side as I stare coldly at him.“It's over, Don Marco,” I whisper. His jaw clenches, and he slowly lowers the gun.“You are really letting everything go just to get revenge, aren't you?” he whispers. My throat knots as guilt begins to slide in. He is trying to gaslight me, but I won't fall for it.I have been fighting in the rain for hours, driving across the city just to track him down. Now that I have him in the palm of my hand, he is trying to make me feel guilty.I look up at him, my jaw clenching.“Yes, I am risking it all.”Horror flashes past his eyes, and he chuckles.“You can only hur
KAITLYN “Another step closer and I'll slit my throat!” My threat echoes, forcing everyone to freeze. I glare at their pale faces until my gaze lands on Jesse. His jaw is on the floor, his hands are sweating, and his skin is so pale that he looks no different from a cold body.I can see fear and shock in his eyes as he stares at me, keeping a distance away like I asked. He slowly begins to raise his hand, his forehead covered with beads of sweat.“Kaitlyn, put down the blade, please,” he whispers in a voice full of horror and false concern. My eyes darken in rage, and I press the blade deeper into flesh. His eyes widen even more and his hand drops. He nods and takes a step back, narrowing his eyes as he grits his teeth.“No one will get in my way, is that understood?" I growl. They all exchange glances, confused and in fear.“Miss Peterson, please put the knife down. You're in front of an altar,” the fake priest blurts out in a quivering voice.I snap a glare at him, rage rushing thr
KAITLYN I grab the man's hand as he turns to leave, my eyes pleading."Does your boss plan to starve me to death too?” I whisper.I watch his eyes widen in surprise and his lips part and slam shut.“I will get you something to eat,” he blurts out before dashing out of the room. The moment the door slams shut, I let out a breath of relief and drop down to the bed.I need to get out of here. I don't mind risking it all. I don't mind leaving as a corpse.I grip the sheets, my heart racing in fear as I wait for a chance. The door pulls open and my head jerks up.I let out a breath of relief when the guard returns with a tray in hand.“The boss said you should eat quickly. He doesn't have much patience left,” he mutters as he drops the tray on the table. My eyes narrow to the cutlery in the tray, and I feel my throat knot.I look up at the guard, and my heart leaps when I find his eyes watching me.“What? Did he ask you to watch everything I do now?” I almost snap out in anger. His lips p
KAITLYN I jerk up, wincing as a splitting headache throbs in me.I rub my burning forehead and wince again in pain, then slowly look up.My chest tightens when I realize that I am not in my room or anywhere familiar. It looks like a cabin, and the room is so cramped.I can smell the sea whenever I turn towards the window, and my stomach won't stop churning in pain.My lips press together when flashes of what happened before I fell unconscious fill my head.“Jesse, that bastard!” I spit out in rage.I wonder what that crazy man is up to now. He tricked me and brought me to this place. What could he be up to?I turn and try to walk out of the room, but pain snaps through me, forcing me to drop back into the bed.I wince again and rub my aching legs.“What has he done to me?”The door pulls open and my head jerks up.My eyes dim with rage as they lock with his own.Irritation fills me up.“You bastard!" I spit out in rage.He lets out a dark chuckle, his head tilting to the side.“Get r
KAITLYN “Hey, Kaitlyn, wake up," I hear a voice whisper into my ear as I lie still and almost dead. Why did the voice sound so familiar? Why does it remind me of him?"Kaitlyn?” My eyes slowly open, not because I am strong enough but because I want to be sure it is who I think it is.And just lik

KAITLYN I can feel my heart sink into the pit of my belly as the door pulls open and his footsteps fill the living room I am in.I pull my legs together and rub my trembling hands, daring not to look up.
