Pru shrugged, “Eat what you can. I’m sure someone will eat the rest.” Purity looked at him for a moment, finding what he said a bit odd, and separated a few pieces onto a napkin that she would eat and left the plate for what she wouldn’t eat. Two bites into the crispy bacon, and she coughed. Purity sat on the shower floor using the showerhead with one hand to rinse her body after washing it the best she could. The murmured sound of Lasci’s voice and the other brother, Pru, could barely be heard through the door. She could hear the comment and reaction to being put in a different room. It made her feel bad. Purity never in her life would have thought this could happen. She grew up very fortunate, raised by her grandmother, always escaping those moments when something could have happened or even killed her. But now, here she was with a hurt leg and wrist. “Guess your good luck has all run out, Purity Jones,” she said softly. She didn’t think the men who had been looking after her were terrible so far. “How is she?” Amorous came out of his room looking better, but Lasci ignored his question, more worried about how his youngest brother was doing. “How are YOU feeling?” The youngest grinned slightly, “I’ve been better, that’s for sure, but after tomorrow I should be great. Purity wiped her tears and looked at the broken dish on the bed. She felt terrible, but it was an accident. Grabbing the two halves, she stuck them in the nightstand drawer. She promised to fix it once she had the chance. Laying back against the pillow and taking a deep breath, Purity looked toward the window. Rain was starting to tap it. The sound was relaxing, and since she’d taken a shower, focusing was a little easier. She closed her eyes, thinking of what to do about school, her grandmother’s house, and everything else. School had given her two weeks off to get things settled with her grandmother’s home and the funeral, but right now, she hadn’t even had a chance to go to the hospital and deal with that. When Lasci walked in and told Amorous to leave, it was hard not to notice how close his younger brother was sitting to Purity. The feeling of jealousy hit Lasci, but he kept his cool. “Since you’re feeling so chatty, younger brother, do me a favor and look for Johnathan. Tell him I want a security and lock upgrade down on the house. He can make the arrangements.” Amorous only rolled his eyes and smiled at Purity before saying, “I’ll see you later.” He got up and winked at her, not looking at his Alpha. Lasci watched, dumbfounded at the audacity of the youngest walking out of the room. Then he heard Pru snicker as he came in, “Brave, isn’t he.” Shaking his head, Lasci said to Pru, “Do me a favor and get Johanthan’s SUV pulled up close to the front doors. Lasci grinned to himself, acting like he didn’t hear her. “I’m sure Pru has the SUV pulled out front by now. I’ll carry you down. She weighed nothing, he thought to himself and thinking that Tener probably thought the same thing when he carried her up the other day. “You need to eat more.” Nodding, Purity replied, “I usually eat a lot, but the medication gets my stomach in knots, and I don’t feel like eating.” “Regardless if you feel like it or not, you can’t get the proper nutrition if you starve yourself. When we return, I’ll have Johnathan fetch foods you like to eat.” He looked down at her smile and quickly turned as the bedroom door opened. “Oh, sorry,” Tener said, closing the door. “What is it? Arriving at the hospital, Pru parked the car and got out, followed by Lasci. “She’s going to need a wheelchair. I’ll go get it.” Lasci nodded at Pru’s offer as they both got out. Then, opening the back driver door, Lasci gently shook Purity’s shoulder, “Hey, wake up. We’re here.” It took a moment, and she finally opened her eyes, asking, “Are we at the hospital?’ Lasci nodded, responding, “Yes, and Pru went to get you a wheelchair.” “Oh, okay. Can you help me with my book bag?” Lasci went to the back passenger side and grabbed the bag off the floorboard. “They’ll probably need proof for next of kin. My id card should be in here,” she said, flipping the bag over with one hand. Now Lasci knew why they couldn’t find identification on her. No one checked the zipper around the bottom of the bag. “Thank you,” she said and unzipped the bag, “Ah, here it is. The ride back was quiet, Purity had fallen asleep again, and Pru stared out the window, driving. Lasci had a lot on his mind, between everything going on at the house since Purity came and talking to the nurse for a moment about Purity’s grandmother. “Do you think the room is ready?” Pru asked Lasci in a quiet tone breaking Lasci’s deep thought. Lasci shrugged, “Not sure. They’ve had plenty of time. I’ll give Johnathan a call and ask him.” Lasci pulled out his phone and dialed Johnathan’s number. The demon butler answered, “Yes, can I help you?” “How’s the room situation coming?” “Oh, it’s done! Everything is finally dry and set up.
