MasukLeon was not in the right mind to argue, as he was busy mind-linking all the warriors he had deployed to look for his mate, but to no avail.
People asked where he and Nessa were last night during the festivity, but he could only give them a vague answer.
‘Nessa, where are you?!’
Leon felt like he was going crazy, but thankfully, one of his warriors spotted Nessa. She was in her beast form, walking towards the pack house.
She finally came home.
Relief washed over Leon’s body as he went to the door and waited for her there.
He saw her as she shifted into her human skin. Her long black hair was disheveled, and her green eyes were red; she had been crying.
“Nessa, where have you been?! You make me worry sick!” Leon immediately approached his mate with open arms. He wanted to hold her, but the look in her eyes made him stop.
Nessa glared past him, and when he followed her line of sight, he found Abby standing at the door behind him.
That was when he realized he had committed the second mistake.
On the other hand, Nessa had been thinking about what she was going to do throughout the night. She didn’t want to throw away this precious mate bond between her and Leon for one mistake.
After all, a mate bond was one sacred thing you could ask for, a precious gift from the Moon Goddess for all the shifters.
Therefore, Nessa decided to return and talk about this with Leon. She was trying to figure out if this bond could be saved.
More so, she couldn’t avoid Leon forever.
However, her resolution shattered, and her hope crumbled once again when she saw Abby was still there.
After what happened, Leon still kept her around!
“What is that whore doing here?!” Nessa snapped. She had never raised her voice before this, but her anger made her see red.
It was not her proudest moment, but she couldn’t help it. Her fury sang through her veins. She felt her beast was enraged by the sight of that woman.
“Nessa!” Leon raised his voice when he heard Nessa curse at Abby. He had never seen this side of her.
Nessa used to be very kind and gentle, but for her to call others names was hard to discern.
Yet, who could blame her completely after what she had just witnessed and the emotional turmoil she had gone through in less than twenty-four hours? Nessa was in agony.
It was Leon who ruined everything, but why should it be her who was in pain and picked up the pieces? This was so unfair!
“That’s uncalled for! We can talk about this inside calmly.” Leon tried to de-escalate the situation. He glanced over his shoulder and watched Abby, who was about to cry because of the way Nessa disrespected her. “We can talk together about what happened calmly.”
“I don’t want to breathe the same air as her.” Nessa glared at Leon for even suggesting that.
“Why are you being so cruel to me? You shouldn’t have thrown a tantrum over a mistake.” Tears welled up in Abby’s eyes. “If you really valued the sacred bond between you two, you shouldn’t have run off and instead talked it through! You don’t think your mate is important enough to hear his explanation. Do you know how worried Leon was last night?”
Nessa was livid. “It’s so rich coming from you to talk about the sanctity of the mate bond. From someone who rejected her fated mate because he was below your status!”
Abby indeed rejected her destined mate two years ago because the poor man was only a warrior, and more so, she was still waiting for Leon.
She silently wished the alpha wouldn’t find his destined mate so she would be his chosen one.
No one suited Leon except her. But the beautiful plan had to change because a year ago, Leon found Nessa, who had just turned eighteen at that time.
“You are only a fucking omega! Don’t you dare to talk to me in that way!”
“That’s enough, Abby!” Leon had to handle Nessa first. “You can leave now!”
Hearing that, Abby burst into tears as she rushed away from them. She felt really broken because Leon raised his voice at her, something he had never done before.
This must have been the bad influence of that omega. She only brought disease!
“That was a mistake, Nessa.” Leon followed her to her bedroom. Once Abby left, Nessa ignored him again and entered the pack house. “You need to understand.”
Nessa turned around and snapped at Leon. “What should I understand?! It was you who had been fooling around with the woman that you kept saying was your ‘little sister,’ but why is it me who needs to understand?!”
This was a very ridiculous request from Leon. As the alpha, he should be the smart one.
“Nessa, let me explain. It was only a one-time thing; don’t make it sound like I have been betraying you all this time.”
“The mate bond should be enough to prevent that.” Nessa gritted her teeth, holding herself back from crying. “How could you betray me?”
Leon sighed. “This must be because I left for the battle soon after I found you.”
“Is that even enough of a reason?! You should have rejected me in the first place! We could have saved everyone from this headache!”
Leon was trying to appease her anger, but it seemed that she was getting madder with every word he said. He was clueless about what to do.
“Don’t be reckless. You need to think about this thoroughly.”
Nessa was very disappointed. Leon didn’t own up to his mistake; from the way he talked and how he wanted to calm her down, he downplayed what he did.
He didn’t think this was a big mistake. Only a simple mistake that could be fixed by ‘talking.’
Nessa was shocked when she watched today’s news. The glass of milk that she just made earlier fell from her hand, slipped from her fingers and the only thing that rang in her head was what the reporter said.Keagan was dead.It was said that the famous businessman, Keagan was found dead in his huge house this morning. The news said the cause of his dead was poisoned.Someone had poisoned him, but at the same time the other news mentioned the possibility that Keagan had ended his own life, because his condition when he was found was rather… unpleasant to see.The young businessman looked like he had starved himself for weeks.“No…” Nessa shook her head. She took a step back and then grimaced when the jagged piece of the broken glass stabbed her feet. “There is no way…”Nessa stared down at her bare feet and the blood that had covered the floor. She didn’t feel the pain from the cut, instead she felt the pain in her chest. Was it because of the severed mate bond? She couldn’t tell for s
What Tace said was right. Nessa had proven that you could live well enough without your wolf spirit. She was able to survive that, which meant, Keagan would as well.“Are you crazy?!” Lance was taken aback with the idea.“I have told you that the idea is crazy, but you don’t want to listen!” Tace groaned at the gamma, because he had warned him earlier, but he had insisted to listen to what he was saying.“Yeah, but this is insane! How can he be an alpha if he doesn’t have a wolf spirit?!” Lance shook his head. He grimaced. “How can Keagan be the alpha if he is not even a shifter?”It was one thing if they had a luna who had lost her wolf spirit, but it was different thing if it was the alpha. You wouldn’t be able to control the entire pack alone with loyalty.Once the enemy learned that the alpha of the pack couldn’t even shift into their own wolf, they would try to attack you, countless time… until they got what they wanted. And even if you could survive the first or the second attac
“What?” Lance blinked his eyes in disbelief. You are joking, right? Is that… a curse? Keagan had been cursed all this time?” He was incredulous. This was not what they expected. A curse?“Wait. How? How do you know about this?” Lance immediately approached Tace to demand an explanation from him. This didn’t make sense at all for him to say the least.“I got the precious information from the Vinica and Raya.”“How?”Vinica and Raya were the two omegas that Nessa had saved from the Black Moon pack and now they were part of the Howling wolf pack, but it didn’t make sense at all.Apparently, in his frustration, Tace came to Vinica and Raya. He asked a few questions casually about Nessa’s parents. And from that conversation, he figured out there was something not right. It was the fact that the previous alpha before Leon had a strange behavior.“I am sure. I am really sure that the strange behavior that they mentioned were the description of the shattered personalities. Just like Keagan.”
“This is not good,” Jack said. He shook his head in regret, as he watched the way Keagan was withering away. He spent most of his time in the attic. He didn’t do anything else, but staying there.Jack could come and go to bring his meal, since there was no longer a direct order not to come close to him, but it didn’t mean the alpha would eat that. And now Jack was stressful.Meanwhile, Lance was not allowed to follow where Nessa had gone and it had been a week since the last time he saw her.“He is going to kill himself if he keeps doing this,” Jack said in a stressful tone. He scratched his head in frustration and then looked at Lance with a disapproving look. “Do something.”“If there is something that I can do to help with the situation, I am going to do it.” Lance was also stressed out with the situation. Not only because he had to handle the matter with Keagan, but he also had to overlook the pack, since Tace had gone to Black Moon pack to gather more information about Nessa’s pa
“So, how are you going to fix it?” Lance asked through gritted teeth. He tried to breath through the anger that he felt towards Keagan. He shouldn’t have felt this way toward his alpha, but he couldn’t help it.Keagan had done something so despicable.“Leave the room now.” Keagan turned to look at his gamma.“Why? I should be here.”“I need to talk with her.”“She is still sleeping.”Through the bond, Keagan was still able to feel the anger that Lance had towards him, therefore he needed him to leave.“Keagan…”“Leave, Lance.” Keagan didn’t raise his voice, but the way he glared at his gamma was enough to tell him that he was being serious right now.Pressing his lips because he knew Keagan wouldn’t change his mind, Lance then walked out of the room, leaving the two of them alone. He was not sure whether this was the right thing to do, yet what option did he have?Once Lance left the room, Keagan moved closer to Nessa’s bed and stayed there. He dragged a chair and sat down. His face w
“What is going on?” Keagan asked, he groaned when he pushed himself off the bed.Lance then told him everything that had happened and how reckless it was for Keagan to leave without warning when his condition was like that.“You can kill yourself, you know that?” Lance couldn’t help, but reprimanded the alpha lightly. What else he could do? It was not like he could stop him even if he were there at that time.Lance pushed himself from the windowsill and then approached Keagan with a glass of water. He handed it to him. “What is going on? You can tell me what is really happening between the two of you.”What happened between them was not something as simple as a forced mark, because if that was the case, then Nessa wouldn’t show that resistance. When Lance found Nessa and Keagan, he could see that she was on the verge of leaving. She didn’t want to be there.Hell, she was so close of escaping. Probably, it was a pity for Keagan that made her stop.“Tell me the truth, Keagan. I don’t kn
Keagan crouched down and stared at her blood, which flowed from the wounds caused by the sharp shards of broken glass.Ignoring the fact that Nessa had not yet healed like a normal shifter, there was this vicious smirk on the corner of his lips. He liked the color and the smell of it.“Here. Drink t
“Do you think I am fine?” Nessa asked one of the warriors who escorted her to the restaurant on the highest floor of this building. She remembered his name was Dax.“You look fine,” Dax replied softly.Nessa bit her lip. “If I do something silly, please tell me.”Dax chuckled. “You are fine; you onl
“Don’t worry, I will take care of you. I will take care of you for the rest of your life. You don’t need to be afraid.” Leon looked at Nessa with sadness in his eyes, but this sight infuriated Nessa even more.Nessa saw red. Her anger fueled her with enough strength to push him away and scream in hi
“What time is it?” Her memories were a little fuzzy. All she could recall was how cold her body was.“You have been unconscious for a whole day and night.” He got off the bed and walked across the room. “You are fine now.”Nessa furrowed her brows while Leon poured a glass of water for her and helpe
