LOGINNessa was probably not thinking clearly and was acting impulsively, but the image of Leon with Abby kept replaying in her mind, filling her with disgust even at the sight of his face.
“I, Nessa Andrea Harts, reject you…”
However, before Nessa could finish her sentence to reject Leon, he had slapped her so hard it sent her to the floor.
Her ears rang from the sudden force, and for a few seconds, she didn’t even realize what just happened. Nessa stared at him while holding her burning cheek.
Leon was livid; he yelled at her.
Nessa had never seen him so furious before, and truth be told, it was very terrifying. He was the alpha, after all.
“I have had enough of your tantrum!” Leon snapped at Nessa. He towered above her; his eyes filled with annoyance. “I say we will talk about this! I have tolerated enough of your childishness! You should be the luna of this pack! This is not how we fix problems! How could you want to reject me for one mistake?!”
Nessa sat there on the floor, listening to Leon’s rambling. She didn’t know this man… He looked like an entirely different person.
“I will not tolerate this anymore! You have humiliated me and put me through an uncomfortable situation! You make me deploy all the warriors to look for you, leaving them wondering about what happened between us!”
Nessa tuned out the rest of his long rambles. He talked about how important communication was and the sacred mate bond between them, about how it was not strong enough because they had been apart for so long, and about his idea to fix it.
Nessa was so taken aback by the slap that she was unable to process the addition with a straight mind. Leon showed her the side that she had never seen before, which confused her even further.
Her ears kept ringing, and by the time Leon knelt down in front of Nessa, his expression softened; he stretched out his hand to caress her cheek, his brows furrowed.
“I don’t want to hurt you, but you should know that you are the luna of the pack. You have to be mindful of your actions and think carefully before throwing a tantrum.” His voice was gentle. “We can fix this.”
He then continued with his monologue.
“You will be the luna of the pack. I will forgive you for your outburst this time, but next time, I want you to think clearly before you run away. You are not a child. That’s not a proper example of a luna.” Leon grabbed her elbow to pull her up. “And one more, I don’t appreciate it if you threw the words of rejection very easily. This is a sacred bond that we shared.”
“Next time?” Nessa narrowed her eyes. She was sure that she heard it wrong. “What do you mean by next time? Are you planning to sleep with her again next time?”
Nessa gritted her teeth, her anger flaring once more. She glared at Leon, and the alpha could feel it.
“That was a mistake. It will never happen again.” He shook his head. “We will talk about this tomorrow. I will give you the space that you need. I will not return tonight, but don’t overthink it. I have an important meeting with my beta and gamma.”
There were a lot of things to talk about after the long battle against the Golden Creek pack, after all.
“You are my mate. Someone with whom I will spend the rest of my life. Don’t throw it away for your ridiculous outburst.”
In his eyes, it was a ridiculous outburst…
“We will talk about this tomorrow when you calm down and stop being a child.” Leon kissed her forehead as he always did. “Go and get some rest. There are a few things I need to take care of.”
Nessa sat there, watching Leon walk away from her. She was still astonished at how he turned things around and made them sound like they were her fault.
He emphasized the fact that she ran away, not the reason behind it.
Her head ached, and if Leon was right about anything, it was that she was in dire need of rest.
Nessa couldn’t even feel her body when she went to her bedroom and lay down there. She felt like she could sleep for a whole day or even more.
Soon enough, Nessa fell asleep, only to wake up an hour later to a loud noise from her bedroom door. Someone knocked crazily. From the sound of it, Nessa wouldn’t be surprised if they tore it down.
“Nessa! Come out, I need to talk to you!”
Nessa recognized her voice; it must be the former luna, Luna Kylie. She was Leon’s mother; she was the one who strongly opposed Leon having an omega like Nessa to be his mate and the future luna.
She must have been joyful with tears when she learned that her son finally gave in to the temptation and slept with Abby.
Nessa wanted to ignore her, but it was obvious that she wouldn’t go; the former luna was getting obnoxious.
“Come out now, you dirty omega!”
Nessa finally pushed her exhausted body off the bed and got up; she was not ready for another confrontation, but with former Luna Kylie, it was unavoidable.
And once Nessa opened the door, a harsh slap landed on her cheek, which made her stagger back. It was not as strong as Leon’s, but still, it was a slap that was filled with hatred nonetheless.
“How dare you come to my son like that?! How dare you humiliate Abby like that?!” Kylie roared as she approached Nessa and screamed in her face so loudly.
Behind Kylie, Nessa could see Abby standing there, watching everything unfold. Her face twisted, and her eyes were red. Needless to say, she must have tattled to Kylie.
“How dare you lay your hand on Abby?!”
Nessa was shocked when she watched today’s news. The glass of milk that she just made earlier fell from her hand, slipped from her fingers and the only thing that rang in her head was what the reporter said.Keagan was dead.It was said that the famous businessman, Keagan was found dead in his huge house this morning. The news said the cause of his dead was poisoned.Someone had poisoned him, but at the same time the other news mentioned the possibility that Keagan had ended his own life, because his condition when he was found was rather… unpleasant to see.The young businessman looked like he had starved himself for weeks.“No…” Nessa shook her head. She took a step back and then grimaced when the jagged piece of the broken glass stabbed her feet. “There is no way…”Nessa stared down at her bare feet and the blood that had covered the floor. She didn’t feel the pain from the cut, instead she felt the pain in her chest. Was it because of the severed mate bond? She couldn’t tell for s
What Tace said was right. Nessa had proven that you could live well enough without your wolf spirit. She was able to survive that, which meant, Keagan would as well.“Are you crazy?!” Lance was taken aback with the idea.“I have told you that the idea is crazy, but you don’t want to listen!” Tace groaned at the gamma, because he had warned him earlier, but he had insisted to listen to what he was saying.“Yeah, but this is insane! How can he be an alpha if he doesn’t have a wolf spirit?!” Lance shook his head. He grimaced. “How can Keagan be the alpha if he is not even a shifter?”It was one thing if they had a luna who had lost her wolf spirit, but it was different thing if it was the alpha. You wouldn’t be able to control the entire pack alone with loyalty.Once the enemy learned that the alpha of the pack couldn’t even shift into their own wolf, they would try to attack you, countless time… until they got what they wanted. And even if you could survive the first or the second attac
“What?” Lance blinked his eyes in disbelief. You are joking, right? Is that… a curse? Keagan had been cursed all this time?” He was incredulous. This was not what they expected. A curse?“Wait. How? How do you know about this?” Lance immediately approached Tace to demand an explanation from him. This didn’t make sense at all for him to say the least.“I got the precious information from the Vinica and Raya.”“How?”Vinica and Raya were the two omegas that Nessa had saved from the Black Moon pack and now they were part of the Howling wolf pack, but it didn’t make sense at all.Apparently, in his frustration, Tace came to Vinica and Raya. He asked a few questions casually about Nessa’s parents. And from that conversation, he figured out there was something not right. It was the fact that the previous alpha before Leon had a strange behavior.“I am sure. I am really sure that the strange behavior that they mentioned were the description of the shattered personalities. Just like Keagan.”
“This is not good,” Jack said. He shook his head in regret, as he watched the way Keagan was withering away. He spent most of his time in the attic. He didn’t do anything else, but staying there.Jack could come and go to bring his meal, since there was no longer a direct order not to come close to him, but it didn’t mean the alpha would eat that. And now Jack was stressful.Meanwhile, Lance was not allowed to follow where Nessa had gone and it had been a week since the last time he saw her.“He is going to kill himself if he keeps doing this,” Jack said in a stressful tone. He scratched his head in frustration and then looked at Lance with a disapproving look. “Do something.”“If there is something that I can do to help with the situation, I am going to do it.” Lance was also stressed out with the situation. Not only because he had to handle the matter with Keagan, but he also had to overlook the pack, since Tace had gone to Black Moon pack to gather more information about Nessa’s pa
“So, how are you going to fix it?” Lance asked through gritted teeth. He tried to breath through the anger that he felt towards Keagan. He shouldn’t have felt this way toward his alpha, but he couldn’t help it.Keagan had done something so despicable.“Leave the room now.” Keagan turned to look at his gamma.“Why? I should be here.”“I need to talk with her.”“She is still sleeping.”Through the bond, Keagan was still able to feel the anger that Lance had towards him, therefore he needed him to leave.“Keagan…”“Leave, Lance.” Keagan didn’t raise his voice, but the way he glared at his gamma was enough to tell him that he was being serious right now.Pressing his lips because he knew Keagan wouldn’t change his mind, Lance then walked out of the room, leaving the two of them alone. He was not sure whether this was the right thing to do, yet what option did he have?Once Lance left the room, Keagan moved closer to Nessa’s bed and stayed there. He dragged a chair and sat down. His face w
“What is going on?” Keagan asked, he groaned when he pushed himself off the bed.Lance then told him everything that had happened and how reckless it was for Keagan to leave without warning when his condition was like that.“You can kill yourself, you know that?” Lance couldn’t help, but reprimanded the alpha lightly. What else he could do? It was not like he could stop him even if he were there at that time.Lance pushed himself from the windowsill and then approached Keagan with a glass of water. He handed it to him. “What is going on? You can tell me what is really happening between the two of you.”What happened between them was not something as simple as a forced mark, because if that was the case, then Nessa wouldn’t show that resistance. When Lance found Nessa and Keagan, he could see that she was on the verge of leaving. She didn’t want to be there.Hell, she was so close of escaping. Probably, it was a pity for Keagan that made her stop.“Tell me the truth, Keagan. I don’t kn
Keagan crouched down and stared at her blood, which flowed from the wounds caused by the sharp shards of broken glass.Ignoring the fact that Nessa had not yet healed like a normal shifter, there was this vicious smirk on the corner of his lips. He liked the color and the smell of it.“Here. Drink t
“Do you think I am fine?” Nessa asked one of the warriors who escorted her to the restaurant on the highest floor of this building. She remembered his name was Dax.“You look fine,” Dax replied softly.Nessa bit her lip. “If I do something silly, please tell me.”Dax chuckled. “You are fine; you onl
“Don’t worry, I will take care of you. I will take care of you for the rest of your life. You don’t need to be afraid.” Leon looked at Nessa with sadness in his eyes, but this sight infuriated Nessa even more.Nessa saw red. Her anger fueled her with enough strength to push him away and scream in hi
“What time is it?” Her memories were a little fuzzy. All she could recall was how cold her body was.“You have been unconscious for a whole day and night.” He got off the bed and walked across the room. “You are fine now.”Nessa furrowed her brows while Leon poured a glass of water for her and helpe
