A BABY FOR THE BILLIONAIRE

LESLIE’S POV“Have you ever thought about putting your resume into Jobsco, you don’t even have to apply, you just give them your CV, and they’d apply for you.”“No.” I answered, not even bothering to look up from the T.V at the frown that was obviously formed on Rochelle’s face.“Leslie, you have to do something – you can’t just sit in my couch all day eating pizza and watching stupid rom-coms –”“Hey!” I interrupted, feeling hurt. “They’re not stupid, this is a perfectly romantic movie where men don’t cheat, they get married and live happily ever – see! You’ve just made me miss their kissing scene. Did you see the look on his face when he – Rochelle!” I called out as she switched off the TV.“Now that I have your attention, you can’t keep moping away your life just because your ex-husband is a stupid piss of … Leslie, it’s been seven months!”“I know!” I wailed. Even after seven months, tears still threatened to fill my eyes at the thought of Jeffrey.“Leslie,” Rochelle called, her v

LESLIE’S POVIt took only a moment for my embarrassment to be replaced by anger. “How the heck can you call this a private party?” I snapped, stepping further in.My hands brushed against the line up of switches, looking for the button that would restore normal lighting to the room, when I couldn’t find one, I walked over to the window and threw open the velvety curtains – too bad, it was already dark outside.“What sort of depravity is this?” I asked, hands on my hips and glaring at him. “There’s a perfectly normal party going on downstairs, but heaven forbid you engage in anything remotely normal, you have to come up to this – heaven forsaken room, and pay these women with the self esteem of dried mud to entertain you?”I was well aware I was over stepping, but I felt so angry and disappointed that this man was also not a suitable father for the baby, I wanted to turn him suitable.“I mean what the heck is wrong with men like you? –”“ Men like me?” He asked that same brow lifted ag

LESLIE'S POV"Are you planning to stand there all night?" Rochelle asked the moment I stepped into the living room. I looked up slowly, I had no idea how long I had been standing by the front door with Max's shirt still hanging loosely on my body. Daisy let out a sleepy little sound from the bassinet beside the couch, and that finally pulled me back to reality. I hurriedly slipped off the shirt as though it had burned my skin and folded it over my arm. Rochelle stared at it, then at my face, before looking back at the shirt again. Her mouth slowly fell open. "Leslie..." she said carefully. "Why are you wearing a man's shirt?" I opened my mouth, but nothing came out. There was no simple way to explain what had happened upstairs. I had followed a complete stranger, barged into his private room, shouted at him, kissed him, discovered he owned Helix, and somehow walked away with a marriage proposal. Saying it aloud made it sound even more ridiculous. I sank onto the couch and covered

Leslie's POVAfter Jeffery spoke I looked at him without saying a word. Max stood beside me, his face giving nothing away, while the nurse quietly excused herself and stepped farther down the hallway. Jeffrey rubbed the back of his neck before looking at Daisy. "I never actually confirmed she was mine." I frowned. "What?" He lowered his eyes. "I believed she was because Barbie told me there was a chance, and... I wanted to believe it." My mouth slowly fell open. "You wanted to believe it?" I repeated. "Jeffrey, you walked into my home, placed a baby in my arms, and begged me to raise her. Now you're saying you never even knew whether she was your daughter?" He looked ashamed for only a second before speaking again. "Barbie wasn't seeing only me." My stomach turned. "Then why didn't you get a DNA test the moment she told you she was pregnant?" He sighed. "Everything happened so fast after she died. Carla wanted us to move on with our lives, and I thought if Daisy wasn't mine, so

Leslie's POVMax did not answer immediately. Instead, he looked at Daisy sleeping peacefully in my arms before pulling out the chair opposite mine and sitting down. "She comes home with me," he said at last. "She is my daughter, and I won't walk away from that responsibility." I lowered my eyes to Daisy's tiny face. I had expected that answer, but hearing it still hurt. Max continued, "You will still be free to visit her if that is what you want. I won't stop you from seeing her." I looked back at him. "Even if I refuse your proposal?" He nodded. "Yes." His answer came so quickly that I believed him. There was no challenge in his voice, no hidden condition waiting to trap me. He was simply telling me what he had already decided. "The marriage and Daisy are two different matters," he added. "I want both, but I won't use one to force the other." I looked down at the contract resting on the table. My head was full of questions, yet none of them seemed easy to ask."I don't underst
