“Who is this gift from?” asked Jenny, eyeing a paper bag lying on the lounge table in Ghea’s house. The girl didn’t answer right away; a slice of apple was in her mouth while her fingers were busy posting a photo on social media.

“Ghe, it’s a diamond necklace!” Jenny exclaimed the moment she opened it.

Ghea turned her head immediately, her eyes landing on the necklace Jenny was holding. Sitting up, she asked while chewing the apple in her mouth, “Why? Is it expensive?”

“Do you want me to look up the price?” Without waiting for Ghea's reply, the thirty-two-year-old manager instantly snapped a photo of the diamond necklace Daniel had given Ghea yesterday.

Ghea merely sat watching her manager’s antics. She looked on in bewilderment as Jenny pointed her phone, her eyes widening in disbelief.

“Why? Why that look on your face?”

Ghea was dumbfounded. It turned out the necklace Daniel gave her was a limited edition designed by a world-class fashion designer, priced equivalent to a luxury SUV.

“Ghe, who gave you such an expensive gift?” Jenny probed.

“It must be a knockoff. Put it back in its box!” instructed Ghea as she lay back down on her favorite sofa, glancing at her manager. A hint of worry flashed across her face.

Could it really be a knockoff? Would a CEO like him actually give me a fake diamond necklace? But if it’s real, is he trying to insult me? Does he think my virginity is worth that necklace? Damn it! Does he think I’m a whore?

Ghea’s mind instantly spiraled into negative thoughts about Daniel.

Trying to push those strange thoughts away, she turned her gaze back to her phone screen. Moments later, however, she remembered the written agreement with Daniel. Ghea jumped up and bolted into her room, leaving Jenny shaking her head at her behavior.

Ghea searched for the pants she had worn yesterday, pulling the jeans out of the laundry hamper. Hurriedly, she rummaged through the back pocket. Her face turned pale—the contract was not there.

“Where is it? Where did it fall? Where did it go? I'm dead meat,” Ghea muttered, lamenting her own carelessness.

A few days later.

“Daniel!”

Daniel, who had just finished working out, pretended not to hear the woman calling him.

“Daniel! Come over here and sit with Mama!”

“If you just want to show me photos of girls to set me up with, I’m sorry, but I’m not interested.”

“You’re already thirty-one years old, sweetheart. It’s time you thought about giving Mama a daughter-in-law and grandchildren. Stop holding onto hope for Abel. I'm certain she will never want to stay by your side. She prefers traveling the world, diving into the deepest oceans, climbing mountains. I honestly wonder why her mother even allows her to do all that,” rattled Nova, the woman who gave birth to Daniel.

“I’m not holding off on marriage because I'm still hoping for Abel. If I wanted to, I could bring Mama a daughter-in-law in a month.”

Nova pouted in annoyance. Realizing she would never win an argument with her son, she let Daniel walk away and turned her attention back to the television screen; she had actually been engrossed in a gossip show all along.

Daniel was just about to walk away when Nova suddenly commented on the gossip news currently airing.

“Oh, my… Ghea Salsabila fainted on stage. She must be utterly exhausted. Right, Bi? Her soap opera, Ikatan Batin, has soaring ratings right now. I’ve even joined the 'Patin' fan club—Lovers of Ana in Ikatan Batin,” Nova said to the maid who had just placed snacks and tea before her.

“Could you add me to the Patin club too, Ma’am?” asked Jamilah.

“You want to? Sure!”

Hearing that, Daniel was caught off guard, his mind racing. However, he quickly brushed it aside as a text from Jim arrived. A bio, medical test results, and a signed statement from the woman he was scheduled to sleep with tonight had all been sent completely by his secretary.

“Issued!” Daniel replied, as casually as approving an airline ticket booking.

“I told you, don’t go to the club anymore!” Jenny scolded Ghea.

Her artist’s face was deathly pale. Ghea had been like this for the past two days, throwing up her food several times. She had even been forced to take anti-nausea medication.

“Stop lecturing me, just go! I want to sleep.”

“Do you have any idea? Almost every gossip reporter has contacted me, even though you fainted during an off-air gig.”

“So what did you tell them?” Ghea asked weakly.

“I told them we’ll issue a statement once your condition improves.”

Ghea looked closely at Jenny’s face; there was undeniable anxiety written all over her manager’s features. At times, Ghea felt sorry for her. “Jen, go get yourself a boyfriend!”

Jenny was about to retort when her phone rang. Deciding to take the call, she walked away from Ghea.

“Pregnant? What kind of gossip is that now? Ghea is just exhausted, stop making things up! Suppress every malicious article that corners Ghea.”

Hearing Jenny’s words just now, Ghea suddenly began to tremble. Her mind immediately flashed back to the one-night stand she had had with Daniel. The girl tried to recall when her last period was. Instead, her body began shaking violently. In sheer terror, she cried out for Jenny.

“No way… this can't be… Jen—Jenny… Jenny!” she screamed.

Pinching Jenny’s arm was the very first thing Ghea did upon reuniting with her. She had finally returned home after spending about four days in Jogja. “Why didn't you tell me, hiding the fact that the one who got you pregnant was Daniel Tyaga!” “Because I didn't want anything to do with him,” Ghea replied, snatching her agenda planner straight out of Jenny’s hand. “You two forced my hand into this. It's like swallowing my own pride. I just sent shockwaves across the entire country by announcing my hiatus from the entertainment world, and now I have to crawl right back. As if everything I said a week ago was nothing but a cheap publicity stunt,” Ghea rattled on. Jenny pursed her lips inward. She knew her artist’s temperament inside out. Ghea despised being indecisive and detested people who couldn't stand by their word. Yet because Jenny had leaked her whereabouts to Daniel, she had no choice left—she had to go through with it and marry the hippo. “Relax! You don't need to

  • A Baby Billionaire   20. The Proposal

That morning, Pak Asman’s house was bustling with several relatives and neighbors who had come to witness Daniel and Ghea’s formal proposal. To keep the event private, Ghea requested that no active phones be used by her family to take photos. Ghea was genuinely taken aback to see Nova so overjoyed. The woman who had given birth to Daniel instantly shook her father’s hand firmly and wrapped him in a warm embrace. Ghea couldn't help but smile at her future mother-in-law’s enthusiastic demeanor. However, when her eyes met Richie—the man who had so gladly parted with his chocolate monster cake not long ago—Ghea couldn't help but knit her brows. He was entirely different from the Richie she had met that day. The Richie standing before her wore a flat, somber expression, completely devoid of the broad grin from their first encounter. Pushing the thought aside, everyone finally sat down and engaged in warm conversation. Fired up with excitement, Nova suggested that the wedding be hel

Ghea maintained a blank expression as photos of her alongside Daniel circulated once again. The only difference this time was that people were speculating even further that her departure from the entertainment industry was solely to marry him. As they drove back home, neither Daniel nor Ghea said much throughout the journey. Ghea even appeared entirely indifferent to the fact that Daniel’s family was coming to formally propose the very next day. Nor did she care to ask when they would actually hold the wedding. The first thing occupying Ghea’s mind was establishing an agreement—and this time, she had to be the one in control. "I want us to stay out of each other's personal lives after we're married," Ghea finally spoke up. "I want a legally binding document in black and white, along with witnesses. If necessary, let's hire a lawyer we can pay off to keep their mouth shut until our agreement comes to an end." Daniel nodded, cheering silently in his heart. As it turned out, this

"Daniel slept in your room last night, didn't he?" Pak Asman, already seated at the dining table, eyed his daughter suspiciously. Ghea simply nodded and sat down after setting a fresh cup of coffee before him. "He couldn't sleep because of your snoring, Yah. That's why he isn't awake yet." "Nduk, don't we need to prepare anything for tomorrow when Daniel's family comes over?" asked Pak Asman, who had zero experience hosting a formal proposal. "His mother is only coming to propose. You can just invite Bu Dhe and Bu Lek. I'll head into the city today to buy refreshments and souvenirs for them to take home." Pak Asman nodded in understanding, quickly finishing his breakfast before heading out to his batik workshop and showroom. Ghea was busy washing dishes when Daniel finally woke up, immediately asking where her father had gone. "He already left. Go have breakfast and take a shower. I want to take you to pick out some return gifts for your mother tomorrow," Ghea said, shaking th

Ghea, lying on the bed, could only stare at the ceiling without being able to close her eyes. Every now and then, she glanced to the right, wanting to check whether Daniel was already asleep down there. Earlier, the man had gone to sleep in Pak Asman's room. However, her father’s snoring stressed him out; Daniel whined, and for some reason, Ghea felt a little sorry for him. "I can’t sleep without air conditioning." "Good grief! Are you going to sleep in my room? Then where am I supposed to sleep? I don't want to sleep with my dad either!" "Fine, then the two of us will sleep together," Daniel said. "Hey..." Before Ghea could even recover from her shock at his words, Daniel had already walked into Pak Asman's room and reemerged carrying a floor mattress. Blinking rapidly, curiosity got the better of Ghea, and she shifted her body, turning slightly on her side to look at Daniel. The man seemed sound asleep, his eyes shut tight. Just as she was about to turn back, however,

Ghea wore a sour pout as she unlocked her car door rather sluggishly, while Daniel stood smiling, waving toward Pak Asman. “Aren't you coming home with us, Sir?”“Once we close up later, I can head home with the other workers.”Starting the engine, Ghea felt that her father had taken quite a liking to Daniel. Seeing her father’s beaming smile, the girl felt utterly bitter, knowing the cause of it was none other than the hippo.“How much does land go for around here?” Daniel rolled down the car window, taking in the scenery still dominated by lush trees and rice paddies. Her father’s batik workshop was located in a preserved tourism village, situated about four kilometers away from their house.“Why? Are you planning to build a business here? Don't bother! I don’t want outsiders coming in and turning this lovely village into an industrial park. I want my child to run through the rice fields and breathe clean air,” Ghea rambled as she steered the car down the quiet road.“You want your
