I stared at my reflection in front of the dressing mirror, a hard lump forming in my throat. Why does Damon hate me so much? Why does he look at me like he would want nothing more but for me to drop dead? Getting back to my chambers, I'd immediately tore the fancy lacy blue dress off my body. Entered the washroom and scrubbed my body so hard it still burnt even after I was out of the bathroom. I hoped it would be enough to remove any mixture of their scent that could probably still be lingering on me. But still the images of him and Bertha romancing wouldn't leave my head. I kept seeing Bertha sticking her tongue into his mouth and the smacking sound of their mouth as they kissed, echoing in my head. Suddenly, my wolf’s senses picked up a presence. Someone was coming behind me. First, I stilled. And then once I sensed the presence close enough, I spun. Without looking, I gripped whatever I reached and twisted it. “It's me, Beatrice!” Beatrice yelped as her arm bone cracked. “Oh my goddess!” “Sorry…Reflex,” I apologized profusely. “How are you so strong, yet allow those maids and Bertha to walk all over you?” She asked, her eyes wide with curiosity. Actually, I was naturally blessed with heightened senses amongst other gifts I hated to reveal to people. But having suffered from many hardships and enemies, I was forced to learn how to protect myself using my sharp senses and gifts. But then I could never use my strength or anything I learned here. Even if I wanted to. Mom had specifically told me to stay hidden. According to her, it was my only way to survive in this faraway pack. “Well, I have bad news and good news. Which do you want to hear first?” “Good news first,” I answered without much thought. “Okay. The Alpha did not attend school today meaning you still have the chance to follow him the next time. And bad news is that he is on his way here, heading for your room,” she informed, her eyes dropping into worry. “He looks really upset,” she added, her face creasing more. “Upset?” I could almost feel the deep wrinkles in my face at this point. Because why would he be upset? If anything shouldn't I be the one upset? He was the one parading his concubine to spite me. “Yes. He had a meeting with an elder and when he came out, he was like that. He was always sensitive after meeting this particular elder.” “Elder? Which elder is that?” “Chief Elder, Elder Wraith. He's the Alpha's only remaining family.” I frowned as Beatrice's warning mulled in my head. However, it was broken the moment the door abruptly opened. From the musky scent, I already knew it was Damon. My heart sank. “Leave us,” he ordered Beatrice, scowling. Immediately the door shut after Beatrice, he turned at me sharply. “Is this what you want?” He sneered, his eyes dark. His jaw clenched as he approached me menacingly. I slowly drew back but still managed to hold his furious gaze. My heart roared in my rib as I tried to evade my husband who had suddenly turned to an animal on the verge of devouring me. Until my back hit a dead end–a wall. And I was only one stride from his reach. At this point, I knew I was done for. A hard lump dropped heavily in my stomach as I froze. “You'll never have your way,” he growled, his jaw locking. Reaching where I was trapped, he took my hands and pinned above my head, his scent of musked wine overwhelming my senses. I turned my face away. My wolf pranced inside me violently, very close to the surface. I was practically holding myself back, doing all my best to hold my wolf back. To keep her caged. Not now, wolf. Please… Using his index finger, he rotated my chin until we were eye ball to eye ball. “I will never marry you or accept you as my wife!” He spat. I clenched my fingers as I forced myself to swallow back the emotions surging through me. But my eyes betrayed me as tears quickly formed. Heck I hated that I was too emotional. I yanked myself out of his grip in a last effort to protect whatever pride I had left. My chest heaved heavily as I backed him all the while hastily sniffing back my tears. “Why do you hate me so much?” I asked, spinning to face him again. He did not answer immediately and for the tiniest of seconds, I saw guilt and pain flash in his eyes. “Why are you so angry? The fact that I was chosen as your mate or because I was chosen as your wife? Do I bother you that much?” His jaw tensed and at the same time, his throat moved. Without another word, he wheeled around and trotted out. I panted heavily. But I was confused. Why did he just leave? What was the guilt flash in his eyes? Maybe there was something I didn't know. There really may be a reason the kind cheerful boy I met two years ago would change this drastically. Or maybe Beatrice was right. Maybe he was acting this way because he has to maintain his pride, he has to wear the title of a ruthless alpha to maintain his territory and lead the pack. “Are you alright?” Beatrice ran into the room frantically. Or maybe instead of wondering, I could just ask him directly. I grabbed a robe and dashed out. “Where are you going?”Beatrice called. “I have to find out something!” I ran out of my room into the corridor of our wing. Damon must have heard me running me, because he stopped. How come he was still in the corridor when he left my room almost two minutes ago? But I didn't have the time to start worrying about that as a sense of urgency gnawed inside me. I stopped a few inches from him, panting heavily. “Don't you remember me? Two years ago—we–” But then, what if he only got furious after remembering our past ties? What if the Damon I met two years ago was different from the one before me right now?~Aria~“Emily won't see me. She won't open the door for me. She won't answer me,” Damon bemoaned when he came back from Emily's quarters. I was in the Alpha office waiting to hand over the Alpha duties back to him. Logan and Xander were present as well. Immediately he said those words, Xander and Logan glanced towards me. I looked away, a silent growl rumbled in my chest. Who would break the news to Damon?I couldn't bring myself to. I hated Emily, but I knew how much Damon genuinely cared for her. To the point of risking his life to save her. How could I tell him she was now crippled with a scarred face and was seriously depressed?“You know, you all are acting really strange,” Damon said, his eyes darting from me to Xander and back to Logan. "Something's wrong, right?” His eyes narrowed. They were fixed on me now. The files in my hands suddenly felt very heavy. I dropped them and leaned up, avoiding his peering eyes. He turned to Logan, jaw locking. “Logan, I command you. Sp
~Damon~The moment Emily flew out of the car as the car refused to brake, I panicked. It was my fault. I should never have allowed her to sit in the car without her seatbelt. No matter what. Now I must protect her. Because her father would have done the same for me or my father if the roles were changed. So I jumped out of the car. As I descended, I sighted a stone. It was smooth, glinting against the sunlight, as though it were inviting me.But I didn't focus on it. My eyes only glanced at it as my attention pulled back to Emily—she was almost landing, face first, on a rock. And without thinking, I dived. To catch Emily. It was supposed to be body first. Until my head crashed into something hard. So hard the pain numbed me for a moment. My hands were wrapped around Emily, protecting her as excruciating pain travelled within me. I realized then, that I'd bumped my head into the glinting stone I saw as I descended. Emily was alright. She did not injure herself. But my head
~Aria~Pack Doctor stared gloomily at me, and immediately I felt my breath sink into my stomach. Then it hit me—his warning when Damon was first brought in.Has Damon lost his memories?Has he really forgotten everything about me?For a long, silent moment, I could think of nothing. I waited to feel the anguish from my wolf, to feel her sad growl. But I felt nothing. Only the excitement and the bond that had firmly snapped into place. And in that moment, I thought of all the memories we'd shared, the memories that formed our path and finally brought us together. From the moment he’d walked into that hall and claimed me as his mate, from the moment our bond became one, from the moment he made those promises to me—No!It couldn't be. He couldn't forget everything now. I turned to Pack doctor. “Did you run every test? How long will it take for him to regain his memories?”Pack doctor shook his head. “Only the goddess and the Alpha’s will can tell.”Meaning it could take forever.
~Aria~“A different Pack scent is present in the accident scene,” Xander announced. Immediately, a low growl rippled inside me. My wolf had awoken.“What does that mean?” I asked, even though my head was already swirling. “Someone else was there when the accident happened. Someone from another Pack,” Logan said. “That much I can tell. Who exactly could that be? Which Pack are they from? Do you think it has links to what Emily said?”“We are not sure yet. We have to keep investigating.”“Find out the pack he is from. Then we'll take it up from there.”“What if it's from the enemy Pack?” Logan asked.“No, I know that scent,” Xander chirped, his voice clipped at the edge.We turned towards him.Xander did not speak. His eyes stared distantly. A hollow silence hung in the air. “That is the Crescent Moon Pack scent,” he finally said. “Crescent Moon Pack…” I knew the Pack. I knew that I knew it. But all of a sudden, it sounded alien. “The dead Alpha Jamie's pack,” Logan said, his
~Aria~“It was sabotaged!” Emily screamed as the guards made to roll her out. I was already headed to my seat, but I stopped and turned. “What do you mean by that?” I questioned, my eyebrows furrowing. “Believe me. This accident was staged by someone. The car was sabotaged. I'm certain of it.”“What proof do you have?”“Proof? Do you need proof to investigate this? Are my words not proof enough?” she slammed. “I've learned to trust nothing that came out of your mouth. Don't blame me.”“You have to question everyone in the Pack.”“That's impossible. And you know it.”“Impossible? Why do you act uninterested? Don't you wish to punish the one responsible for putting Damon in that bed?”I looked at her, and at that moment, my fingers itched to curl tight around her neck. Was she shamelessly blind to her sin or just acting plain dumb?If there was anyone to blame for Damon lying in that bed, it was no one else but her. But what did I expect? She wanted to pin it on a non-existent pers
~Aria~The wheelchair rolled out, and inside it, sat Emily. I stared down, my mouth parting in shock. The once powerful and agile Emily Vesper confined to a wheelchair was a sight I never imagined. It wasn't just that. Her face…Her face was now unrecognizable. Half of it had been scarred beyond recognition. And although she covered her hair with a hat, a few strands strung out. They were not bright yellow and sparkling like before. Her blonde hair was gone. She spoke first. “Speechless now, huh,” she mumbled. Even her voice seemed to have changed as well.“Still doesn't change the fact you are the cause of all this.” I wanted to say—“What exactly happened?” I asked instead. She scoffed. “Like you care. Aren't you jubilating now, huh!”I looked at her, something bitter stirring in my chest. “Jubilating? How dare you mention that word when someone is in a coma because of you!”“Oh don't you dare pretend you aren't happy I'm like this,” she sneered. “But don't worry, I can kill
