Amelia

Monday morning came faster than I would have liked.

Apparently, today was the official kickoff for the advertisement planning, which meant long hours, and by 9:30 am, I was already at the designated location with Mr. Hillary and part of our team.

The air carried that familiar pre-project buzz, assistants moving around with tablets, production staff checking angles, someone arguing softly about lighting in the corner.

Work mode activated. Exactly where I function best.

I spotted Adrian the moment he arrived with his people.

He moved through the space with that same controlled authority and calm expression. Two days ago in the lounge, he had stared at me like he was trying to solve a puzzle.

Today? Nothing. Completely normal, professional.

I straightened slightly where I stood, mentally brushing off the memory of Friday night.

I was not about to act weird because of one look in a lounge.

Adrian exchanged pleasantries with Mr. Hillary first , firm handshake, quiet words before giving the rest of the team a brief acknowledgment nod. His gaze swept across us efficiently.

When it passed over me, it did not linger. Interesting.

For someone who had stared at me like he was trying to figure me out or trying to read my thoughts two nights ago, he was acting remarkably… normal.

Well, how exactly did I expect him to behave?

I pushed the thought aside immediately as the work session began.

And just like that, we got busy.

--

The next three weeks? Blurred. From meetings to strategy sessions. Strategy sessions turned into late-night revisions.

Location scouting, creative reviews, digital alignment, brand tone adjustments. The entire rebranding process consumed almost every working hour we had.

But one thing surprised me. Adrian Langford was not nearly as difficult to work with as I had expected. He wasn’t the nightmare client I had mentally prepared for. Oh, but he liked control. Very much.

If there was a detail within his reach, he noticed it. If there was a number slightly off, he questioned it. If something didn’t align with his vision, he said so directly, and without apology.

But he wasn’t unreasonable. He listened. Sometimes. He adjusted when the data supported it.

And most importantly, he respected competence.

By the end of the third week, the Full Brand Repositioning and Signature Campaign were officially wrapped. And the project was officially done.

--

The following Monday morning, just when I was settling into my workstation, my desk phone rang. I picked it up.

"Mr. Hillary would like to see you," his secretary voice came through.

I grabbed my tablet and headed straight for his office, knocking once.

"Sir, you sent for me." I said as I stepped in.

He looked up immediately and gestured for me to sit, his expression thoughtful in a way that immediately put me on alert.

"I just got off the phone with Mr. Langford," he said.

My brows lifted slightly.

"And?"

"He asked to see you."

I blinked.

"Me specifically?"

"Yes." His gaze sharpened just a little. "Very specifically."

Well. That was… unexpected.

"Does he have another project with us?" I asked calmly.

Mr. Hillary shook his head slowly.

"Not that he mentioned."

My fingers tapped lightly once against the tablet in my lap.

"Then what exactly does he want?"

"I don't really know," he said, "I believe that is something you should go and find out."

Fair enough

"He's expecting you now. You should leave immediately" he added.

I stood smoothly. "Alright."

No point overthinking it.

If Adrian Langford wanted to see me, I would hear it directly from him.

The drive to Langford Group headquarters was smooth and annoyingly uneventful.

By the time I pulled into the sleek glass-front building, my curiosity had settled into a quiet, controlled alertness.

Not nerves. Never nerves. Just awareness.

I walked into the lobby and approached the front desk.

The receptionist’s professional smile appeared instantly.

"Good morning," I said evenly. "I’m here to see Mr. Adrian."

"Of course, ma’am." She gestured politely. "You can take the executive elevator on the right. His office is on the top floor."

"Thank you."

The ride up was quiet, the soft hum of the elevator the only sound. When the doors slid open, I stepped into an even quieter executive floor.

Hmm, muted luxury and minimal noise.

I approached the outer office where a woman sat behind a sleek desk, likely his secretary.

She looked up immediately.

"Yes?"

"I’m here to see Mr. Adrian Langford."

Her eyes narrowed slightly in professional assessment.

"Do you have an appointment?"

"Not exactly."

"What’s your name?"

"Amelia Harper."

Recognition flickered across her face so fast it was almost subtle.

"Oh," she said smoothly, "He’s expecting you. You can go right in."

Expecting me.

"Thank you."

I turned and walked toward the large double doors. For a brief second, my hand hovered over the polished wood.

Then I knocked once and pushed the door open.

His head lifted the moment I stepped inside.

  • A Deal With Mr. CEO   Chapter 65: What Are We Doing?

The following week, we all that were involved in the Rebrand were called to the boardroom that afternoon. We all filed in. Mr. Hillary stood at the head of the table, looking pleased as he addressed us. "You all did an exceptional job," he said, his voice warm. "The client, Mr. Adrian Langford was satisfied. Everything was on point. Well done to every single one of you." A round of applause rippled through the room. I clapped along with everyone else. Mr. Hillary continued, "Because of the success of this project, two other major firms have already reached out to us for similar rebranding work. This is a significant win for Elevate. It puts us firmly on the map in the premium acquisition space." "We’ll be discussing the specifics of the new accounts later this week," Mr. Hillary added, gathering his things. "But for now, take the win. You’ve earned it. Meeting adjourned." Another round of applause followed, louder this time. A few people cheered. After a few more conver

Just then, my phone rang. I glanced at the caller ID and it was mom. I walked to a more quiet corner and picked it up. I picked up, trying to keep my voice steady. "Hey, Mom." "Amelia," she said immediately, her tone a mix of surprise and concern. "How are you dear? Did you make a mistake? I saw that you transferred half a million dollars to my account." I leaned my head against a cold concrete pillar, closing my eyes for a second. Earlier in the week, after verifying everything with the bank and making sure the transfer was secure, I had sent her half of the money that Adrian had deposited to my account. It felt like the right thing to do. She had actually saved up for me while I was growing up. It was from that money I bought the house I lived in now, even though Zoey and Brianna had teased me endlessly about buying a place with more than one bedroom when I was the only one living there. "It was not a mistake, Mom," I said quietly. She was silent for a beat. "Did you t

  • A Deal With Mr. CEO   Chapter 63: Terms Completed

AMELIA The following Monday arrived with finality. Today marked exactly four months since the contract began, which meant it was the end of everything. I woke up that morning feeling the weight of it. When I agreed to this entire thing, I would never have believed this is how it would feel like when it ended. I went through my usual routine and then got dressed for work. Adrian was scheduled to come in for the campaign approval meeting that afternoon. When I arrived, the team whose work was directly tied to the Relaunch project gathered in the boardroom. Not a huge crowd, just the core group, senior strategists, creatives, and a couple of account leads. I took my usual seat between trying to steady the nervous flutter in my stomach. When Adrian walked in with Evander, the room’s energy shifted in that familiar way. He exchanged a brief, professional greeting with Mr. Hillary, then gave a polite nod to the rest of the room as a whole. His eyes didn’t sweep across to find m

ADRIANDuring one point in the conversation, she smiled at something I said and I swear I felt my heart do a little flip. And what I realized too was that I cared about her. Last week, when I had called her repeatedly and she didn’t pick up, I became worried, because one thing I've come to realize for the past months was that she was mostly awake around the time I was calling, so I had been genuinely worried. Worried enough that I drove to her house unannounced. The dinner continued peacefully. We shared laughs and stories. But at the back of my mind, the thought of the contract ending soon refused to leave. In just a couple of days, this... whatever this was would be over. No more dates. No more excuses to see her. No more of these quiet moments that had started to mean too much. I didn’t want to admit how much that bothered me. When we finished, we walked out of the restaurant together. The night air had grown cooler. We got into the car and I drove off. When we fin

  • A Deal With Mr. CEO   Chapter 61: Where It All Slows Down

AMELIA It was date night. I stood in front of the mirror in my bedroom, staring at my reflection for what felt like the hundredth time. I stared at the gown Adrian had got me during the early stage of this entire thing, a deep midnight blue that fell elegantly to the floor with a subtle slit. I ran my hands down the smooth fabric, trying to steady the nerves that had been building all day. Just a few more days, I reminded myself. A few more days and this would all be over. I would go back to being single, the way I had chosen, the way I had always preferred. That had been my rule for years, no dating, no complications, no risk of getting hurt again. But then Adrian came along. I shook my head sharply, as if the motion could shake the thoughts away. No. I wasn’t going to spiral tonight. This was supposed to be our last public date. A final performance before the contract ended. I would enjoy it and keep things light. I took a deep, shuddering breath, pressing my palms

  • A Deal With Mr. CEO   Chapter 60: The Final Countdown

The creative review meetings that week were intense but productive. We spent hours going through mood boards, logo variations, campaign visuals, and early copy directions. Adrian sat at the head of the table most days, listening carefully, asking questions, and giving thoughtful feedback. When each session wrapped up, however, he developed a habit that quickly became noticeable to everyone. He would always make his way over to me afterward. He didn't just give me a professional nod or a polite "good job" in front of the board. He would weave through the clusters of associates, bypass the senior partners, and stand right in my personal space. Sometimes it was about a specific slide he wanted me to revisit. Sometimes it was just a casual "How’s the rest of your day looking?" The staring was impossible to ignore. Colleagues didn’t even try to be subtle anymore. Heads turned. Whispers spread. Casey and Megan were the worst, they were basically vibrating with the need to interro

By the time we arrived, I already knew where we were. I had heard of the restaurant before. Everyone had. It was one of those places people talked about in hushed, impressed tones, the kind you didn’t just walk into on a random evening. Adrian stepped out first, then came around to my side and

I gave him a small smile. For a moment he just stood there looking at me, his eyes still fixed on my face as though he had forgotten what he was supposed to say next. "You look beautiful, Amelia," he said again. "Thank you," I replied. "You look good yourself. He actually did look good... li

I stood up from the chair. Adrian rose as well, pushing his chair back with the kind of controlled ease that seemed to follow him everywhere. I knocked once before opening the door and stepping inside. Adrian was already there, sitting back in his chair behind the large desk as if he had been expecting me for some time. The office lights were dimmer than usual. His gaze lifted the moment I entered. For a second, neither of us spoke
