5. Cold denial

Few hours later, the nurse escorted Joyce and Yara to the doctor's office. Though Joyce had initially requested to wait for her friend at the reception office, she was pressed upon to follow Yara inside the doctor's office.

It was a bit dark but not depressing. It gave off a neutral vibe. There was a divan, the doctor's table which had a small ficus tree on it and the two chairs directly opposite.

The walls were painted pale yellow in an unsuccessful attempt to brighten up the room. And medical charts were hung on it.

After exchanging pleasantries, the doctor teased them on how lucky they were to have come right when he was about leaving his office. He had a really urgent appointment to attend but then, had seen them and decided to just finish up and write them their discharge bill.

"As this is your first trimester, your body is working extra hard to create life. The surge of hormones may drain and utterly exhaust you but you should prioritize sleep and good feeding to help keep you focused and positive." The doctor had advised.

Yara never thought there a time would come when she would sit down and receive such advice without her getting married. And it greatly vexed her.

"Taking fruits like mangoes, berries and avocados are highly recommended. And, you should exercise from time to time."

Yara stood up without saying a word to the doctor. Joyce flashed him a smile thanking him and just before she could go after Yara who had already exited the office, she quickly remembered something and turned to ask the doctor.

"Sir, is there any exact position she should be sleeping in, at the moment or has the time not yet come?"

Laughing softly, he retorted. "She should start practicing how to lie down with her left side."

Yara quickly parted ways with Joyce but not without asking for her account details to pay back the money she had spent on her medical bills. But Joyce had waved her off, asking to have lunch the next day, with her.

She felt so devastated as she knew not what to do. As she got into the next taxi that came her way, she decided to call Cara and confide in her.

"Yo bitch!"

The energetic voice of her best friend made her let out a low sigh.

"I'm ruined, Cara." She whispered.

There was a long pause on the other side and Yara knew even without seeing her that concern must have been etched all over face.

"How? Why?" Cara asked multiple questions at a go.

Yara leaned back on the back seat and closed her eyes while suppressing the urge to sigh again. Immediately, her eyes fluttered she glanced at the rear view mirror to know if she could meet the drivers eyes but the middle aged man was focused on his driving.

"I'm three weeks gone," She looked away, watching the passer-bys from the window at her right side.

Could there be any lady there with an unwanted child like her?

"I'm pregnant, Cara Callahan." She finally deadpanned, holding back the tears that filled her eyes, threatening to fall off without warning.

She first heard a loud gasp and then a constant repetition of fuck, fuck, fuck.

Biting her lips, she took in a deep breathe to calm herself down. For she too was shocked so it was only normal for Cara to react that way.

"Is it Grayson's?" Her best friend whispered as though she knew but didn't want to hear the answer.

Yara sniffed, wiping the lone tear that fell down her cheek. "Yeah,"

"I should have warned you to be careful around him. He's a fuck boy for crying out loud, Yara. And you know that!"

"That's not the point now," She stated. "Kindly send me his office address."

"I'll ask my brother to help me out with it. Once I get it, I'll forward it to you." Cara retorted.

Yara sniffed and cleared her throat before muttering inaudible words of gratitude and then, hanging up.

The driver turned his head slightly and stared briefly at her, making Yara irritated as she wondered if he had listened to all she had said during the call.

Drying her hair, Yara stared back at herself in the mirror. She had stopped at home to wash up before going to Grayson's office.

The buzz of a new notification got her  eyes darting towards her phone lying on the side table as she rushed to get it with hopes that it would be a message from Cara as regards what she had earlier asked for.

Holding her breathe, she swiped through her phone screen, scrolling through her notification panel and let out a sigh of relief when she saw a text from Cara.

Without hesitating, she clicked on it and ignored the heartwarming words of her best friend, fixing her eyes only the address below.

Yara tossed her phone on the bed and went through her wardrobe in search of a simple yet eye catching dress.

Her heart was beating erratically as she stared at herself in the mirror, flipping her hair as she adjusted the straps of the thigh length, red silk gown that hugged her amazing figure.

She wasn't sure why her heart was beating that way. It definitely wasn't the anger that her soul was filled with some minutes ago. It was either how much of a nervous wreck she was or the fact that she would see Grayson once again.

Grabbing her bag, she made sure her pregnancy result slip and every necessary item was inside before dashing out of her apartment and flagging down a taxi which took her to her destination.

Yara was denied permission to see Grayson when she arrived at his company. She was so pissed off that she called Cara once again to whine to her.

At times, she would ask herself what could she ever do without Cara in her life?

She had been so supportive and involved in her life that nothing could happen to Yara without Cara being aware of it.

"Hang in there for few more minutes. I'll make some calls."

Yara listened to her best friend, hoping that her brother would help her out. He had hit on her once and she turned him down. But now, he was the one helping her out to meet up with Grayson- his friend.

She swallowed the hard lump that formed at the back of her throat as she darted her eyes to and fro, observing how busy everyone here was. And that included the annoying receptionist with those false lashes of hers, leering at a client as they spoke.

Not longer than six minutes, the receptionist received a call via the intercom on her table, glanced at Yara and flashed her a placid smile.

When the call ended she called on Yara and directed her to Grayson's office in the third floor.

Yara was left alone in front of his office and she felt her heart pounding against her ribcage as she took a sharp breathe and knocked twice on the door.

Getting no response, she nearly rolled her eyes as she pushed open the door and walked right inside.

Grayson's had all his attention on the laptop before him as he stared at the screen not realizing that someone was inside his office.

Yara scoffed in annoyance and walked towards his large office desk, dropping her handbag on it as she glared at him.

The soft thud of her handbag on his desk got Grayson looking up, to lo and behold the angry looking lady standing right in  front of him.

He cocked her brow as he shifted his attention to her.

"Can I help you?" He asked, reminding her of his rich baritone voice.

Yara almost gasped in surprise as she stared at him. She couldn't believe what he just asked her as she scoffed once more and looked away.

Oh yes, she was very much aware that he was a fuck boy who didn't deal with flings more than once but it would be so shameful if he had forgotten her already. Especially with how intimate that night had been for them.

"I know you haven't forgotten who I am. Yara-"

"Can you cut to the chase and quit going around the corners?" He cut her off with a stoic look.

Yara wondered if he was always this rude or she came at the wrong time.

"Listen up, Grayson, I'm...pregnant." She stated, looking forward to his response.

"And how does that affect me?" He asked her with his face void of any expression.

Yara bit her bottom lip holding back the curse words that nearly flew out. "What sort of question is that? I'm pregnant for you, Grayson and we need to do something about it."

Grayson shrugged, not feeling a bit tensed and it nearly drove Yara mad. She hated how he was so calm and relaxed about this when she was restless and full of worries.

"You still don't get it. What makes you think I'll believe that you're pregnant for me? Or are you trying to make a petty move so as to come back and have some strings attached?"

Yara scoffed in disbelief.

This was definitely not the Grayson Dolan she met at Montero clubhouse. This was definitely not the man that seduced her in a way no man had ever done and got her to part her legs for him!

It couldn't be him. For she would never have yielded to an insolent bastard like him.

She opened her bag and searched through it before bringing out her pregnancy result slip and flinging it on his face.

Cara would be so proud of her, had she been here. But this wasn't a moment to feel accomplished.

After looking at it with close scrutiny, Grayson chuckled darkly and shook his head.

"This means nothing. You might have the child of another man inside you. Doesn't make me to blindly accept that I'm your baby daddy. When the child is born, a DNA test will be carried it to know the real father. And should it be me, I'll take proper responsibility." Grayson stated, sliding the pregnant test result towards the other end of the table where Yara stood in disbelief.

For she never saw this coming.

"Don't be ridiculous, Grayson. You were the first person to have sex with me. And you know that."

"I didn't argue that. My point is that I have no trust in you. Another man must have laid you and then, you could want to tie me down to you with a fake pregnancy or a child that isn't mine."

Yara was maddened with anger. It made her blood hot and she clenched her fist to suppress the urge to strike Grayson's cheeks so hard that her hand leaves it prints on it.

"You think so high of yourself, Grayson. Why would I want to tie you down? Because you're rich? Fuck, I take care of my darned bills with the help of no one. I hate that I'm pregnant and even more, that's it's for you scum of the earth." She spat out.

"I don't care, Yara."

He was more worried about his reputation than the fact this lady before him claimed to have his seed inside of her.

Yara almost glared at him. She tried to cover up the fluttering of her heart with the dirty look she cast him.

"You're really despicable and ugly minded! How could you utter all these after what happened that night? You don't remember or you chose not to?"

Her eyes had moistened on its own but she did a nice job holding back her tears. She felt so ashamed and humiliated that she wished she could vanish out of his office.

"Well, I think you're time here is up. Kindly come back when the child is born for necessary tests to be carried out." Grayson said with a stoic look.

Yara took in a deep breathe and stared briefly at him before grabbing her bag and walking towards the door of his office. She would never forget the look in those alluring green eyes of his that told an opposite tale from what his mouth did.

"I'll be back for you, Grayson." She told him before leaving, meaning every single word she uttered.
