On the last floor of Penafort corporation, in a dimly lit office that belongs to the CEO, laughter and giggles echoed out, the air in the room was filled with the exchange of passionate love that burns between two lovers.

The half-naked, handsome CEO lies on the office brown sofa, his chest exposed, with his face beaming at the blonde lady who sits on him. Her skirt was bunched around her thighs, hair falling over her red bra, her blue eyes sparkling with intense affection for Mason. She giggled at whatever it was he said and hit his chest playfully.

Mason stared affectionately into her eyes and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, warming her heart with his sweetness.

“ You're so beautiful,” he couldn't refrain from complimenting.

Tamara blushed, “Really?” she asked, “ more than your wife?”

“ Oh, please!”

Tamara burst into laughter, “What? What is please? Isn't she beautiful?”

“ Who is beautiful? Have you seen her recently? There's nothing attractive about her, she never takes care of herself, always messy, doesn't dress well, and did I tell you she's dirty?”

“ She's dirty too? Seriously?” she cracked,

“ Yes, and anytime I tried to caution her, before I said anything, she has run off saying ‘ ohh, Alisha is crying, oh my baby,” he mimicked her tiny voice and chuckled loudly along with Tamara, who couldn't stop her laughter.

“ I've gotten the divorce papers ready. Honestly, she's not the kind of woman I'd want to show off and say, ‘That’s my wife.

Tamara grinned, loving every bit of what she was hearing, “But Mason, can you wait a little bit longer?” she pouted,

“ A little bit longer for what?”

“ Before divorcing her,”

“ Why? We have everything we want now, why delay it, and more,” he took some strands of her hair, kissed and sniffed it in, “ I can't wait to have you as my wife and brag such beauty to the world.”

Tamara rolled her eyes, blushing, her heart beat so fast that she almost forgot what she had to say. She cleared her throat and pouted, one that looked so adorable to Mason, “It's not that I don't want that, but you know I still want to maintain my beauty, and I don't like stress.”

“ But I'm not going to stress you, and who said I won't take good care of you, you have nothing to worry about,” Mason assured,

“ I know… but Alisha is still a baby, and babies can be so stressful……” she dragged, “ let Eloise keep taking care of her, I'm not ready for sleepless nights,” she feigned a sad expression that melted Mason's heart.

On the last floor of the company, the security guard could see a familiar figure alighting from the taxi and walking into the building. He was shocked as the lady came closer — he recognized her instantly.

He was too shocked to respond when she greeted him.

“ Is that–Is that Miss Eloise?” his eyes bulged out of the socket. She looked like a woman hit by every world's hardship; her hair was messy, her eyes were red and puffy, her face was swollen like she spent her days crying, and her dress was bigger than her figure. He'd never imagined her dress like that, in a baggy gown, it was so unlike the fierce, hot, and gorgeous lady he knew.

Eloise took the elevator, after multiple calls to reach Mason, which were to no avail, she called his secretary, whom she was familiar with, and who told her she left him in the office. Eloise swallowed, her red eyes had tears brimming, her body felt cold, demanding his warmth, her heart ached, desperately wanting to see him, to seek answers, ones she wanted to hear.

The elevator dinged and opened, she stepped out, and her steps hastened towards the office door, not wanting a second to pass again without seeing him. In haste, she twisted the knob and pushed the door open. The moment she stepped inside, her eyes fell on them, first on her best friend in a bra and skirt, sitting and holding hands with her. Her husband.

“ Mason? Tamara?,” shocked beyond words, her mind went blank. Her bag slipped from her hand to the floor. Blood drained from her face, and her legs remained glued to the ground.

Her lips parted, her widened eyes moved from Tamara to Mason, then to Tamara again.

This was her best friend, the one she tells everything and anything, the one she lets into her life without a second thought. They laughed together, danced together, ate together, and slept together. A friend like a sister she never had, hurt her, and see Eloise's red blazing eyes and clawed fingers. But yet, here she was, that best friend she loves like no other, sitting naked on top of her husband.

Unable to find her words, Eloise hung up the call, still seated on her bed with an unreadable expression. Questions dangled in her mind, each one twisting into the next. Confusion and guilt churned through her, colliding with no clear exit.‘He was in an accident,’ she repeated silently. And yet…The image of his fist slamming into Luther’s face flashed in her mind, followed by the memory of how he carried her gently."It’s okay, Eloise. I’m here."The weight of truth pressed against her chest. ‘He still came for her.’A knot curled tight in her stomach—thick with guilt, warm with confusion, and something else entirely. Something she couldn’t yet name. Why didn’t he say anything? He let her judge him. Let her yell. Let her look at him like he was a monster. When all he did was care.Came for her.He took Luther away. He might have hurt him, but he stopped. He didn’t kill him.Her breath hitched and a sheen of tears coated her eyes.“ Will I ever understand him?” She whispered, “ Will

“ Ah,” Eloise yelped as she sprang up from her nightmare. Her knees immediately pulled up to her chest as she clutched her arms around her knees, burying her head against her knees. Panting, drenched in sweat, tears pooling out of her eyes. Eloise sobbed silently. The nightmare wasn't over. It’s getting more terrifying, a ticking reminder of her pain, of the desperation for death that washed over her, her pounding heart against her chest, the cold that washes down her veins when she was slapped with the truth. No matter how many weeks had passed, she could never live past those feelings. Like they've become a permanent scar on her chest, igniting the hatred over and over again. Her mind drifted back to Antonio, and her heart sank at the evil thought that crossed her mind. ‘ Killing Mason' Her face dropped in guilt, anger, and hatred. She'd judge him for being a murderer, thought of running away from him, see him as a beast, a devil, and even a monster for killing a man. And yet

Whatever it was that the man did, he felt glad that he did it, whether he abused her or committed murder. Whatever it was, it brought her back to him, and for that, he felt delighted. Mason turned to the table, grabbed his cup of whiskey, and downed the contents in a gulp. As if drinking the alcohol jolted every bolt of anger in him, every memory came crawling back with deep claws piercing through his insides. He smashed the empty glass against the wall beside her and saw her flinch. ‘ Oh she should be trembling, cause I haven't even started ‘ Mason muttered in his mind. His mind drifted back to how they flirted before him, and a dark chuckle tore out of his throat. “ You still haven't fucking answer me,” he yelled, “ wasn't he satisfying you?” His breath was harsh and ragged. How could she? How dare she? Everything was supposed to be his. “ I gave you nothing but my love,” he said, remembering how considerate he was when he married her, gave her comfort and his arms when a p

    | Later that night —Antonio’s Penthouse |Eloise was curled up on the couch when she heard the door open. Her heart skipped a beat upon hearing the sound. She'd been patiently waiting for his return, and the moment he walked in, she jumped to her feet. She stood, expecting the usual smug, composed Antonio. But something was different tonight. His shirt was dark. His hands were bare. His knuckles were red like he'd spent his night punching something. Her pulse quickened.“ Hey,” he muttered as he walked past her. Then it hit her nose —a faint iron-heavy smell. Raw, sharp, unmistakable.Blood.She swirled back towards him,“ Where have you been?” She asked, her heart racing in hope she was wrong.Without turning back, he headed towards the bar, answering “ taking care of some business.”She blinked, her throat felt dry, and her steps felt heavy as she stepped closer to him. She hid her trembling hands by clenching her fist and masking her expression.“Why do you smell like—”“Paint?” he

The hospital ward had grown quiet again, except for the soft beeping of a heart monitor and the occasional murmur of distant nurses. But Eloise could barely hear any of it. Her body froze. Luther is missing. The words clanged in her head like an alarm she couldn’t silence. She turned slowly to Laera. “Cops were around for him?” “ Hm,” Laera nodded, “ So… they're arresting him?” Laera snorted. “Please. You think it’s that easy to take down a man like Antonio? They came for a visit and to ask a few questions.” Eloise heaved a sigh of relief, “Maybe he has nothing to do with it,” “ C'mon, Elly, it was said that the last time Luther was seen, he was roughed up by Antonio's men. Nobody's seen Luther since then.” Eloise’s throat went dry. Her lips parted but no words came. She thought he'd handed him over to the police. But rough him up? Missing since then? Her chest tightened. Her memory flickered to the man he crippled just because he lied about it. Eloise placed

Eloise blinked as Laera's face glowed out of her phone screen. She smiled as the FaceTime call finally connected. “ Elly,” her voice cooed out, her face filling the screen, “ How are you feeling?” “ Hi Laera, I'm feeling better, thanks,” “ Visited you yesterday, but you were fast asleep, I feel so glad and relieved that nothing happened.” Eloise’s pulse quickened when she said she came around the previous day, “ Antonio didn't mention that you came around,” “ Might have skipped his mind,” “ Oh, thanks for coming, really,” “ I'm glad you didn't come to work today, you need to take enough rest and don't worry about your work, Oliver made Mary do everything and she deserves that.” Eloise smiled, “ I don't think it's her fault though,” “ Oh please, that bitch set you up, Antonio never instructed her to give you any files,” “ Eh? What…,” Eloise furrowed her brow, lost for words, “ So she was just bossing me around?” “ Well, this will be the last time she'll pull a crazy stunt li
