Chapter 2

Author: Moore
Joseph frowned. There was worry in his eyes, but he still scolded the nanny impatiently.

"What could happen to her? She always said that something hurt, but every hospital check showed nothing. She often pretends to be sick, don't you know that?" he asked.

The nanny sounded like she was about to sob.

"Sir, Wendy isn't pretending to be sick this time. She vomited a lot of blood. The doctors said she needed urgent care. Please go to check on her!" the nanny said.

His assistant also tried to persuade him.

"Boss, you should check on her. She was sent to the hospital, so it can't be fake," the assistant said.

Joseph stayed silent for a moment before speaking hoarsely, "Find out which ward she's in. No, she should be in the emergency room now."

He was about to walk toward the emergency room, but Yvette called out weakly behind him.

"Joseph, I'm about to go into surgery. Where are you going?" she asked.

Yvette was supported by her lackey as she struggled to his side.

Joseph stopped.

He replied awkwardly, "Yvette, Wendy was hospitalized. I'll check on her and come back to stay with you…"

Tears fell from her eyes before he could finish.

"I didn't want to speak badly of Wendy, but this time I'm truly heartbroken…"

My brother nervously pulled her into his arms. Disgust appeared on his face when my name was mentioned.

"Don't cry. You're about to go into surgery. You can't get too emotional. What did Wendy do this time?" he asked.

Yvette leaned into his arms and sobbed.

"She was fine when I saw her yesterday. I told her I would have my heart transplant today. You promised to stay with me the whole time. She said she would find a way to distract you and not let you stay with me during surgery. I never expected that she would pretend to be sick and call an ambulance just to pull you away," she said.

I trembled after hearing that.

"She lied. I didn't see her at all yesterday. I would never say something like that," I said.

Yvette had always been hostile toward me since childhood. She often framed me after our parents died, and she would go as far as hurting herself to blame me.

No matter how much I explained myself, Joseph always believed her and never believed me.

It was the same.

Her lie was clearly sloppy, but my brother still believed it. He let out a cold snort and gave up the thought of going to check on me.

"I knew it. She was fine every other day. Why did it have to be today?" he asked.

Disgust was more apparent in his eyes. Warmth only returned when he looked at Yvette.

"Go into surgery with peace of mind. I'll stay outside the operating room the whole time and go nowhere," he said.

There was a trace of pride in her eyes. She still pretended to worry.

"You should still check on her. What if she's really sick?"

He snorted coldly and replied, "She's definitely pretending. She's played tricks many times to get attention. Today is such an important day for your surgery. It's bad enough that she didn't show up. She pretended to be sick to trick me away. I won't forgive her easily this time."

Yvette was finally relieved after hearing his promise.

"I'm going to prepare for surgery. I asked the servants to prepare food for you. I'll supervise your meals every day if I wake up safely," she said.

Her pitiful expression instantly turned vicious after my brother left.

The lackey asked with confusion, "Yvette, why does he hate Wendy so much?"

Yvette sneered and replied, "I'm the sister my brother loves most. Wendy is nothing compared to me."

Her face twisted with cruelty when she mentioned me.

"That tramp was loved more by the family since childhood. Luckily, I tampered with the brakes and caused our parents' death so my brother would hate her. Otherwise, I'd still have to fight her for his affection.

"I never meant to kill our parents. I only wanted Wendy to die. Who knew they would protect her?" she mumbled.

I trembled with rage after hearing everything in midair.

"What did you say? You were the one who killed our parents? No wonder the brakes failed for no reason. It was you!" I yelled.

I rushed down in fury and swung my fist at Yvette, but I could not touch her at all.

I rushed in front of my brother and screamed at him.

"Joseph, Yvette is the real murderer of our parents. Stop being fooled by her!"

However, he heard nothing. He only spoke to his assistant.

"My phone is not allowed to be turned on before Yvette's surgery ends. No matter how serious the matter is, cancel it for me," he ordered.

I curled up in the corner, filled with despair.

I wondered that if Joseph had learned that the sister he loved most was actually the one he should hate, would he be filled with regret for everything he did to me.

How could I possibly…"Yvette still tried to defend herself. However, the death of our parents had always been the deepest scar in his heart. There was no way he would let her deceive him at that point."Sir, given your power, you can easily find out whether the brake system was tampered with back then. Don't let this vicious woman fool you again!" Sasha exclaimed. She hated Yvette with every fiber of her being, wishing she could crush her under her foot."Yvette bragged about it to me like some kind of achievement, so I know exactly what happened. You and your parents liked Wendy more, so she wanted to cause an accident and make her disappear."It was a sha

That happened the day before yesterday!" Yvette excalimed. She desperately shot meaningful glances at Sasha, trying to muddle through the lie. However, Joseph no longer seemed as easy to deceive as before. He had stepped between them at some point, his expression filled with mockery."Am I that easy to fool in your eyes? So, everything Wendy did in the past was all framed by you two? Yvette's expression stiffened. She nearly lost control of her face.'What did he mean by that? Does he see me as nothing more than a vessel for her heart? Joseph usually cares about me first, right? Why does he care about this useless heart this time?' she thought.Yvette felt unhappy inside, but she did not let it show.Instead, she put on a pitiful expression and said, "My sister did it for me. I deserve to die!"His gaze softened again."This isn't your fault. It's mine… I didn't take good care of Wendy. I should bear the greatest responsibility for her death!" he said.Joseph endured his grief and asked his assistant, "Where is Wendy's body exactly? I'll bring her home and give her a grand burial."His assistant did not know either. He could only shake his head."The doctors confirmed that the body was sent to the morgue. You transferred most of the hospital staff for Miss Yvette's surgery at that time… No one knew where her body went after that," he replied.Yvette did no

She must not be dead…""Shut up!" he yelled.Joseph's eyes were bloodshot and his expression was frighteningly serious. Joseph returned to the living room after comforting Yvette. He picked up the medical report from the table and lowered his head, seemingly lost in thought.I stayed afloat calmly with no emotion left in my heart.Nothing my brother did anymore surprised me.His repeated favoritism toward Yvette had destroyed my love for him.I only wanted to find a way to leave him and go find the nanny who truly loved me.I failed to leave again and was pulled back to his side.I realized he had opened my medical report. He had been standing at the dining table for a long time. His face was extremely pale, and his body swayed as if he might collapse at any second."This is impossible. How can Wendy be this seriously ill? Why did no one tell me? No, that's not right. Every medical report I saw before was normal!" he exclaimed.I watched everything apathetically. I never had the chance to tell him that Yvette tampered with every report he saw to frame me as a liar.Joseph seemed to realize the

My brother impatiently plugged in the charger. He had ignored the medical report completely. The moment the phone turned on, several messages flooded in. His face turned extremely serious after he read them.I leaned over to look and realized they were all provocative messages sent by Yvette.[Joseph didn't visit you when you were hospitalized.
