Chapter 1

Author: Moore
My soul was afloat when my breathing stopped. I watched as the doctor cut my chest open and took out my heart. He hurried out of the operating room with it.

I followed without thinking and saw my brother pacing anxiously in the hallway.

"Was the heart taken out? Arrange the surgery for Yvette Sinclair immediately. This transplant must succeed. Failure is not allowed!" my brother ordered.

My brother, Joseph Sinclair, had the authority as the Mafia Boss, so the doctors nodded in fear.

His assistant spoke cautiously after the doctors left, "Boss, the doctor said the heart donor is a young woman. Her family has not been found yet."

Joseph frowned.

He replied without concern, "Let the hospital keep trying to contact them. I'll give them a large sum of money as compensation once they are found."

His assistant wanted to say more but was cut off impatiently.

"Don't bother me with such small matters again. Handle it yourself. Yvette is about to have surgery, so I can't step away. I need to respond immediately if anything happens to her," he said.

I felt endless frustration and despair after hearing his words.

However, I supposed my death meant nothing to Joseph.

My brother who once loved me most saw me as his enemy from the day our parents died.

"Wendy, this is all your fault. If you hadn't insisted on going to the amusement park, our parents wouldn't have died in that car accident. Look at Yvette. She stayed quietly at home that day. If you were half as sensible as her, our parents would still be alive."

Joseph rarely came home after our parents died, and even when he did, he only cared about our younger sister, Yvette.

He would cross half the city to buy desserts that Yvette liked. He carefully prepared every one of her birthday banquets.

He also cancelled an important meeting because he received a phone call from her.

All of those treatments once belonged only to me.

Joseph would not even glance my way after the accident.

He never knew that I was not unharmed in the accident that took the lives of our parents.

The violent impact destroyed my lungs.

I did not receive proper treatment. I suffered respiratory failure after only six short years, and I did not have much time left.

Yvette suddenly fainted six months ago. She was diagnosed with heart failure after being sent to the hospital.

Joseph hired the best heart specialists in the world at the private hospital owned by Sinclair Enterprise. He paid a huge price to search for a willing heart donor.

I knew that was my only chance to ease the relationship with Joseph. I signed the organ donation agreement willingly before I died.

I hoped that after my heart saved the sister he loved most, Joseph would forgive me.

His phone rang while I was drowning in sorrow.

He frowned deeply when he saw the caller ID.

It was the nanny who took care of me.

All the servants in the mansion tried to please Yvette and ignored me completely after Joseph cut ties with me.

Only the nanny who had raised me since childhood stayed by my side because she could not bear to leave me.

Joseph hung up without hesitation.

The nanny called again before he could put his phone down.

His assistant reminded him kindly, "You should pick up. She has called several times. Maybe Wendy has an emergency."

Disgust flashed in his eyes.

"What kind of emergency could she have? She vomited blood at home before and scared everyone. I rushed back and she was completely fine. How am I supposed to believe her?" he asked.

Tears fell from my eyes.

'I only didn't want you to worry. I took medicine every time before you came back…' I thought.

Joseph finally answered before the call disconnected.

I could hear the anxious voice of the nanny.

"Sir, Wendy was taken by an ambulance to your private hospital. Are you at the hospital too? Have you seen Wendy?" she asked.

Yvette had gone deathly pale. She knew that it was over for her the moment Sasha revealed the truth."Joseph, listen to me, It's not true. I was only ten years old. How could I possibly…"Yvette still tried to defend herself. However, the death of our parents had always been the deepest scar in his heart. There was no way he would let her deceive him at that point."Sir, given your power, you can easily find out whether the brake system was tampered with back then. Don't let this vicious woman fool you again!" Sasha exclaimed. She hated Yvette with every fiber of her being, wishing she could crush her under her foot."Yvette bragged about it to me like some kind of achievement, so I know exactly what happened. She did it on purpose! It was also deliberate that she didn't go to the amusement park that day because she tampered with the brakes!"She was jealous of Wendy. You and your parents liked Wendy more, so she wanted to cause an accident and make her disappear."It was a sha

Yvette rushed over in a panic, holding the breakfast in her hands.Sasha was also dumbfounded as she responded, "Yvette, why are you here?"They were supposed to put on an act for my brother. They arranged a group of thugs to claim that I had hired them to harass Yvette. That way, Joseph would give up on me and never think of looking for me again. However, the situation was clearly different from what they had agreed on."Are you mistaken, Sasha? That happened the day before yesterday!" Yvette excalimed. She desperately shot meaningful glances at Sasha, trying to muddle through the lie. However, Joseph no longer seemed as easy to deceive as before. He had stepped between them at some point, his expression filled with mockery."Am I that easy to fool in your eyes? So, everything Wendy did in the past was all framed by you two? What else are you hiding from me?" he asked. His anger surge, and the intimidating aura of a mafia Boss instantly terrified Sasha. He glanced at Yvette

Yvette's expression stiffened. She nearly lost control of her face.'What did he mean by that? Does he see me as nothing more than a vessel for her heart? Joseph usually cares about me first, right? Why does he care about this useless heart this time?' she thought.Yvette felt unhappy inside, but she did not let it show.Instead, she put on a pitiful expression and said, "My sister did it for me. I deserve to die!"His gaze softened again."This isn't your fault. It's mine… I didn't take good care of Wendy. I should bear the greatest responsibility for her death!" he said.Joseph endured his grief and asked his assistant, "Where is Wendy's body exactly? I'll bring her home and give her a grand burial."His assistant did not know either. He could only shake his head."The doctors confirmed that the body was sent to the morgue. You transferred most of the hospital staff for Miss Yvette's surgery at that time… No one knew where her body went after that," he replied.Yvette did no

Yvette was very pleased because she found another chance to smear me.Whenever Yvette instigated in the past, Joseph would explode in anger at once. He would blame everything on me and never spent a moment to verify the truth.I was prepared to be cursed at once more. I also felt relieved that I was dead so he could no longer hurt me no matter how he scolded me.What surprised me was that Joseph did not believe Yvette. He called his assistant instead."Find out how Wendy died and where her body is," he ordered.Yvette was a little startled as she mumbled, "How can you jinx Wendy like that? She must not be dead…""Shut up!" he yelled.Joseph's eyes were bloodshot and his expression was frighteningly serious. He had sensed something was wrong after seeing my medical report. The repeated vomiting of blood and the diagnosis on the report from the doctors all pointed to a cruel truth.I did not have much time left. His heart began to ache as if it were being torn apart. Joseph returned to the living room after comforting Yvette. He picked up the medical report from the table and lowered his head, seemingly lost in thought.I stayed afloat calmly with no emotion left in my heart.Nothing my brother did anymore surprised me.His repeated favoritism toward Yvette had destroyed my love for him.I only wanted to find a way to leave him and go find the nanny who truly loved me.I failed to leave again and was pulled back to his side.I realized he had opened my medical report. He had been standing at the dining table for a long time. His face was extremely pale, and his body swayed as if he might collapse at any second."This is impossible. How can Wendy be this seriously ill? Why did no one tell me? No, that's not right. Every medical report I saw before was normal!" he exclaimed.I watched everything apathetically. I never had the chance to tell him that Yvette tampered with every report he saw to frame me as a liar.Joseph seemed to realize the

My phone had shut down because the battery died. My brother impatiently plugged in the charger. He had ignored the medical report completely. The moment the phone turned on, several messages flooded in. His face turned extremely serious after he read them.I leaned over to look and realized they were all provocative messages sent by Yvette.[Joseph didn't visit you when you were hospitalized. You must be very sad, right? What a pity. No matter what I say, he'll always believe me. You can never compare to me!][No one in this world loves you, you tramp! Hurry up and die. Stop being an eyesore!][Don't come back once you die. Our brother belongs to me alone.]Yvette hated me. I had known that for a long time.Every time she framed me and I got scolded by Joseph, she would send messages to show off.I once took those messages to my brother to explain myself. Yvette cried and said I had faked everything to frame her.My brother never investigated it. He simply declared that it wa
