Chapter 1

For Katie, the trip into work had been nerve-racking, it was her first day as an assistant to the PA of a large corporation.

Leaving her baby brother at the daycare center, had been difficult, she loved her little brother with all her heart and leaving him with strangers, albeit kind ones, had been difficult.

Having taken full custody of the three month old, after the death of their father and his new wife, over a month ago, Katie was now the sole provider and caretaker.

Her mother and sister, wanted nothing to do with the baby, the divorce between her parents had been bitter.

Her mother had not been exactly happy, that her husband had finally decided that he had enough of her snobbish ways, even though he owned a large company, he always believed family was important, having stood silently in the sidelines, watching as his ex-wife treated those around her with little respect.

Having had enough of his wife's shenanigans, he filed for divorce and he never looked back, having enjoyed the last year of his life, with his new wife and baby.

Katie never begrudged her father's new wife, someone who had made her father happy, in his last year of life.

But unfortunately, fate had played a nasty hand, taken the life of her father and his bride, leaving her little half-brother without someone to watch over him.

Being in college at the time, she had to take the tough decision to quit her studies, choosing to take the responsibility of taking care of her little brother, thankfully she had some savings and a home to be able to take care of him.

But, she knew that she had to find work, her savings would not last long, especially with a young child to take care of.

If you are wondering, what happened to her father's company or why there wasn't some form of insurance, then try to get in the middle of her mother's greed and the legal partners, who were all like vultures fighting over every little thing, forgetting about her brother.

She had decided to forfeit her right in getting anything from her Dad's estate and decided to get a legal document, which stated that her brother was her sole responsibility and nobody could take him away from her.

Her brother's inheritance was being held in a trust fund, until he reached his twenty-first.

She was more than happy to look after him, she loved the little one and never regretted the decision of taking him in.

So, sending out a few cv's, she was finally able to land this job, which was quite a feat, considering her lack of experience.

But, for some or other reason, when she first came in for her interview, the lady took a liking to her and had given her the opportunity.

Hence, the reason she was feeling the way she was, something had told her, that this decision was going to be good for her.
