JUDAS-CAINE'S POV

I went through the documents at the office. We had months of pending work. Running an airline company was not as easy as i had anticipated.

A strange feeling of melancholy struck me while i was going through father's old works.

And then, i stumbled upon a confidential document - it turns out, father had been in talks with the US presidential office for a job that would have given us such a huge global recognition.

And then i remembered the fat fool and the crazy interruption from the last meeting, and i shut my eyes in exhaustion.

Back then, i had no idea what they were talking about, but the weight of reality threw me down a hole.

I habitually reached for my pocket and took out my box of cigar, but just as i was about to light it, my phone beeped.

It was a message from Amika.

I was already running late for Lia's meeting with my mother, but i previously did not really bother, because i had ensured Amika told her everything she needed to know.

However, as soon as i walked into the house, i was surprised to find Amika standing alone in the living room.

"What are you doing here? Where are they?" I asked, giving her a smoldering look.

"I'm sorry, Mr. Brex, but Mrs Athena asked that i let them speak alone in the garden. They already had the major discussions here and i thought..."

"You thought? I don't pay you to think, Amika. I pay you to follow instructions." I stated coldly and walked towards the garden.

She was going to get her query later on.

I could hear mother's loud laughter coming from the garden, and i felt slightly uneasy.

Only to stride into the garden and catch them both sitting like old time friends.

I had to admit Amika did a good job with Lia's look. She looked completely different and beautiful.

That black dress and the way it clung to her breasts desperately as though it was afraid to lose them had my groins grinding from lack of action.

And her lips --

I averted my eyes to mother, who looked at me with a bored expression, and i immediately anticipated her rebuke.

"You're late! And why didn't you tell me your girlfriend was such a charmer?" She squealed excitedly.

"Charmer?" I frowned at Lia. That was not the plan.

"What do you mean such a charmer?" I asked, unable to hide my displeasure with the feeling that she might actually like her.

"Oh, she is a bit of a fixer upper, but she is indeed a charmer. Just the kind of girl you need."

"Really?" Lia and i said at the same time.

"Hellooo people!!" The female voice came from the garden door and i rolled my eyes, exasperatedly.

My little sister, Carly, strolled into the garden, dressed in a bright colored Indian two piece sari.

Just what i needed, the full squad.

"Carly, come over here and meet Caine's girlfriend!" Mother called out to her.

"Here, take my bag inside and don't scratch it! It is pure Valentino." She ordered the butler at the door.

I saw Lia panic and i pinched the skin between my eyebrows, i should have anticipated this.

"Oh my my my, she is so beautiful, mother! Brother Caine, you didn't tell us she would be this pretty."

Goldie locs looked to me for help, confused as to how she should act, or what she should say, but i was getting more and more irritated by the off script motion, so, i couldn't help.

This was why Amika was supposed to be with her. I took in a deep breath and walked over to the table where my mother and sister sat basically smothering the poor girl.

In a way, a part of me appreciated the change in atmosphere. It had been long i saw mother and Carly look excited about something.

"I love your hair, i should get mine done that way. We should go shopping together for the Majors Ball, i am sure you would love the experience. You're coming, right?"

I opened my mouth to say something but ---

"Of course, i know i would love the experience. But it's Judas-Caine you should worry about." Lia said confidently, with an edge of disgust.

My mouth dropped open. She was really doing it, taking an off script initiative. I was impressed.

"Oh, you are absolutely right darling, he never goes anywhere." Mother concurred.

"Yep, that's true." Carly muttered.

"Actually, i can't take him anywhere myself."

What?

"Some times he just goes out, sits there and literally stares everyone down. One time, this poor girl was sincerely being sweet and flirtatious, but guess what, he didn't even blink her way and it honestly disturbed me. I mean, what kind of man is immune to beautiful women?"

I leaned back against the chair -- this was getting interesting.

"Oh..." mother smiled, eying me in amusement.

"My colleagues actually think i can do a lot better than a man like him. I mean, it practically can't even take a village to get him to smile."

Carly was roaring with laughter at this point. Okay okay, Goldie locks, maybe she was laying it on a bit too thick there.

How was my family not put off by this? Mother barely said anything but kept smiling.

"I would love to attend the ball, but Judas-Caine might just ruin it for me."

Carly couldn't stop laughing... "i never thought I'd see the day. Wow! A woman is put off by my brother? You really are his type."

I shut my eyes to their chirping...this was going to be a long ride.

And then she said--

"I'm famished"

"Oh, I'm sorry darling, would you like a salad?" Mother offered.

"Oh lord, no, Mrs Brex, I'm really craving a burger and a bucket of hot chicken wings with lots of cream and maybe noodle soup? I'm quite the loaded eater."

I nearly buckled with laughter at the look on mother's face. There was one thing i knew and it was that mother loved a woman who was modest and kept her physique in top character, so i was certain her disapproval was coming soon.

  • A LITTLE TOO LATE, OR IS IT?   CHAPTER TWENTY - LADY IN RED

LIA'S POV"Wowww! She looks amazing!" Two young ladies squealed beside me, taking a photo of the young woman who had just walked in."I can't believe she is actually here!!" The other one squealed in response to her friend's squealing. It was as if I was frozen in time. Everything about the woman called to me and the hairs on my skin stood. She was beautiful, in a very surreal kind of way. From her luscious cherry bomb lip gloss that matched her hair, to her piercing green eyes and her red dress accentuated her curves in the boldest of ways.Suddenly, I felt like a maid in the clothes I was wearing, but why her looks bothered me was what I did not really know. I barely knew her, and she probably had nothing to do with me.But I couldn't help but worry that she was going to be a problem for me to an extent. I tried to shake off the feeling and moved towards the buffet table at the other end of the hall, and then I heard some girls gossiping. "Did you see her?" One of them asked as I l

  • A LITTLE TOO LATE, OR IS IT?   CHAPTER NINETEEN - THE REPLACEMENT

LIA'S POVThe cameras flashed at us from all directions."Look over here!""Mr. Brex! Smile for the camera!" I never knew it was mandatory for personalities to take pictures at an event, but the attention was giving me a blurry vision.Wow, i gasped, at the numerous number of wealthy people that existed in just the upper East side alone. A sad, dreadful weight settled in my belly, and i felt myself shrink."The first rule of surviving elite company, look confident and don't try to suck up to anyone, or else you will be mistaken as the help." Judas-Caine whispered into my ear as soon as we entered the ball room.Wow, had I been doing it wrong my whole life? In the past, I had practically tried my best to be liked by Elian's parents. The Dunst had faked their affections for me until they couldn't do it anymore - and of course, I had been mistaken for the help, because I was the help.In this setting, I could not see myself any better. Had I not always been the help?Judas-Caine's hand

  • A LITTLE TOO LATE, OR IS IT?   CHAPTER EIGHTEEN - LUST? OR ANXIETY?

JUDAS-CAINE'S POVI stared from the top floor's window down at the vast and endless array of trees in the distance. The pool sat neat and covered at the back of the mansion. It had been long i had any use for it.A cigar in hand, i puffed a cloud of smoke which shaded the glass before disappearing.I savoured the taste, the liquid feeling it gave me. I felt my nerves relax and my senses quieten."Should i turn the car around?" Antonio asked from behind me.I tapped the glass with my forefinger, one...two... as if testing its durability, but really just buying myself enough time to be prepared."In ten minutes," i said and he left.I walked to my bedroom, picked up my jacket, doused out the cigarette and threw on my favorite scent. And a bubble gum found its way into my mouth. "I am not an addict", i recited quietly.Lia's room was on the other end of the vast top floor and so, i went towards it.As soon as she opened the door, my eyes became glassy, heat rose up my groin in a very dan

  • A LITTLE TOO LATE, OR IS IT?   CHAPTER SEVENTEEN - TOTAL STRANGER

LIA'S POV"This dress looks beautiful on you!" Carly exclaimed as i stared at myself in the mirror for the one hundredth time.As anticipated, i moved into Mr. Brex's house as he had suggested, and Carly had come to help me settle in, and also to prepare for the Majors Ball. The dress i wore was a gold Oscar De La Renta feather embellished maxi-dress.It fit so perfectly, highlighting my curves in all the right places. My now thick thighs were boldly exposed through the slit that ran down my left leg."It feels surreal." I said. Tonight was the Majors ball, the night Judas-Caine intended on breaking our relationship to the outside world. There was no telling it would go unopposed, or we would not become a general laughing stock."Are you sure tonight would go well?" I asked Carly again."I mean, i really have an issue facing a room full of elites." "Oh not at all, I'm pretty sure it might not but hey, that's not the problem. The case here is that tonight is not about you, it is about

LIA'S POV "Nag my son, make he fall in love with you. Teach him that love can change everything.""What?"At first i thought, this is crazy. She was asking me not to leave, but to stay and make a total stranger fall in love with me.And then what?"I'm sorry, mrs Athena, but I'm not sure i can do that. I don't even know Mr. Brex like that, and...""You accepted to fake date him to fool me. I'm not going to blackmail you, even though it is a move very well within my cards.""However, I'm imploring you to. He is a good man after all, he just needs a little patience, and a strong willed person."She looked at me as if i embodied literally everything she had just described. But how could i tell her i did not? I may have been stubborn and a little ambitious but i was definitely not strong.Had i been so strong willed and intelligent, my parents would not have died, and little Reign would not have come into this world unprepared. "I'm sorry, Mrs Athena, but i am not the perfect person y

  • A LITTLE TOO LATE, OR IS IT?   I'm Ready

JUDAS-CAINE'S POV "Boss, the publicist from Fenn Rogers is here, she would like to speak to you privately." Antonio whispered into my ear.I let out a deep sigh, i had been looking for the right kind of publicity to give our company for the last week ."Let's go." I replied and got up.The mansion grounds were vast and covered at least a hundred acres of land.We also had a golf course at the back of the house, and that was where i met with the publicist. She was already seated under the pergola, having a glass of juice."Hi, Mr. Brex, my name is Lucy Harley." She said. We shook hands. She was young, beautiful and obviously had her career ahead of her."I hear you're the best there is in House of Fenn." I said after we were both seated."You heard correct, Mr. Brex, i cover publicity for hundreds of businesses in Manhattan, small and big." She replied"Hundreds, i never knew there were that large number of businesses running in Manhattan under one person." I replied, almost wanting t
