But instead, I’m sitting on the edge of the bed, wrapped in Hector’s oversized shirt, staring at the door like it personally owes me an explanation. The candles on the side table have burned halfway down. The palace is quiet in that eerie midnight way where even the guards seem to move softer. He’s late. Again. I tell myself not to panic. He’s the Alpha. He’s guarding a vulnerable realm. Of course he’s late. Still… I keep checking the door. Still… my chest feels tight.
