12. Free, But At What Cost?

First ring, second ring, third ring, I still didn't pick up the damn phone. No one threatens me! No one at all! So I wouldn't give an obsessed fucker the joy of seeing me scared. If he wants her, he should face me like a real man.

“Prince, it's ready,” The voice of the earlier nurse snapped me out of my thoughts and I simply nodded before standing.

Just immediately, I heard a moan, from Lucienne no doubt, causing me to turn around. Whether she was having a nightmare, I didn't care but I wanted her out of whatever it was and here, with me.

The second she opened her eyes, I removed the oxygen mask from her face and then gave her the hardest slap I could muster at that point.

The shock and fear in her eyes filled me with more than enough joy.

“What were you thinking trying to kill yourself?” I barked, not caring about the tears building in her eyes! “I need answers.”
