Vanessa's point of view
They definitely should give me the award for the only person that could go broke few days after she received her salary. I knew I would win that thing with such a wide berth to the first runner up. I checked the figures on my account statement for the umpthenthed time and groaned again at what I saw."What were you expecting Vanessa?" My roommate asked, she didn't even turn around to spare me a glance."That somehow someone rich had sent you some money or you just won the lottery you didn't apply for" She continued.I sighed, groaned into my hands "Perhaps" I said innocently. Mary rolled her eyes at me and did that tsk thing with her tongue. She couldn't even think about dignifying my words with an answer.I watched her apply her eyeliner with exact precision that I was jealous of. I had never been the type of person to know how to apply makeup much less draw a smoky eye wings or whatever."And you know why you don't have money, you send whatever you make in that crappy job to your crappy big sister and your dad" Mary sneered at the end of her sentence. She continued "Who even allows their younger sister to take care of their needs?, she has a husband"No, no, no.My eyes twiched at that statement, mild anger already flowing through my body. Mary shouldn't talk about my family like that."She's going through some sort of rough patch with her husband and you know that""She's always been going through some sort of rough patch since I knew her"I knew better than to argue with Mary when she was in one of her argument phases. I watched her instead as she expertly applied her makeup without the need for any assistance.I always wondered what Mary had against my sister, apart from the money stuff she seemed to hold some sort of grudges against her.Perhaps one day I would ask Victoria."You know I only want to look out for you baby girl" She said again, her voice had softened now "I feel like you should take care of yourself more"I nodded but said nothing. I was too damn exhausted to say anything at this point. And I knew she had a point, I knew she was saying all this for my own good but the only thing I could afford at the moment was a pleasing smile and a nod.Mary sighed and kept quiet for the remainder of her makeup routine. She gave me a kiss on the cheek and I wished her goodluck and to call me if he tried anything inappropriate.Would I need to find another job to pay my bills? Something like a side hustle that wouldn't take much time from my real life and my job but would pay me well enough to survive.Gosh. I fell down on the bed and just stared at the fan as it rotated countless times. I counted the cracks in the ceilings and thought about the different ways I could die if the fan decided to fall on my head. And then Mary would arrive to find my dead body with blood splattered on the walls. She would scream bloody murder. This is the exact reason I don't have much friends. After what felt like hours of procrastination,I brought out my phone to check out for jobs I could do from home as a side hustle. A notification at the side of my phone caught my attention and it was even sent minutes ago, was I so lost in thoughts that I hadn't realized that my phone had vibrated. It was a text from Mary and that text made me abandon the quest for a side hustle as I dashed out of the house in my pajamas.******She was sitting at a corner of the bar, the light from her phone reflected on her face and highlighted the fact that she had stripped her face bare from the makeup she spent hours applying to her face."Where's he and how bloody do you want the body?" The words tumbled out of my mouth without me even thinking or second guessing it.This close, I could see the tears streaks and the tiny drips of mascara she could not wash off completely. She wasn't drunk but she wasn't sober either.Mary laughed, that type of laugh she gave whenever she was annoyed. High pitched and totally fake. She took the glass from the table and drowned down whatever was left in it."Can you believe I waited for this guy for half an hour and when he finally came, he wasn't even prepared for the date he invited me to, then he told me he wanted nothing to do with me and he has a wife"I honestly didn't think it would be that serious. The nerve of some people."Where does he live M, I'm ready to do some serious damage"Mary laughed, that high pitch sound again. "And what do you think we're going to do Vanessa, egg his house and slash toilet paper everywhere. We're not fifteen anymore" She spat the fifteen like it was a bitter medicine.I sighed before taking a seat. She was going to be resentful for the rest of the week."So what do you want to do Mary? I'll do whatever it is to make you happy" I pleased with an excessiveness that I knew wasn't necessary.Mary wasn't buying into what I was saying but it got her to try to hide a snort and a smile at the end. She downed another glass of whatever she was drinking."You know what Vanessa, I think going to his house and telling his wife everything would make me much better"She had that look in her eyes now, a twinkle that suggested she had a plan and she was weighing it out. She sprung up quickly that I thought she might tumble over."I have to go to the bathroom, wait here and don't go anywhere"Without waiting for my response, she had turned already and was tumbling towards where the bathroom might be situated. I would wait for ten minutes and then venture there in the event that she did not come back soon.I wasn't dressed for this type of a place and it was evident in the type of clothes I wore and the way I held myself. Mary might call me a prude but a club or bar or whatever just wasn't my type of thing."Not exactly the type of place I thought I would find you in" Someone said from my right."I'm here with a....."And not exactly the type of person I expected to find here. She gave me a small smile and dropped down on the seat Mary just got up from but not after giving the seat a disgusting look. She wasn't looking bad at all, beautiful and tall and radiant as ever with a smile that could stop a crowd.Elizabeth Thorn, owner of the biggest chain of hospital in the states. Elizabeth Thorn, one of the richest women I have ever met. Elizabeth Thorn, who treated me like a daughter until I became disposable."What are you doing here?"I asked, willing myself to keep calm and not act irrationally. She chuckled "Is that anyway to talk to me? I see a few years away from me has taught you some despicable manners" She said, her tone as pleasant as it can be. She's talking as if we were still friends."It taught me to be weary of you" I shrugged as I said that and reclined into my chair. Maybe she would disappear if I didn't engage her."Well you're certainly ungrateful but that isn't the reason I came here today""I hope you're not here to say I don't call often because last time I checked, you threw us out of your life" I sneered back at her. I wasn't in the mood to entertain all this type of conversation.I was tired and irritable. I was getting angry. She waved her hand at my words as if they didn't matter. I was sick and tired of sitting here listening to her so I got up, deciding to go and find Mary instead so we can go home."Sit down Vanessa, I'm not done" Elizabeth ordered. She seemed to have grown weary of me too. That makes the two of us.I did not sit down but I did not leave either. I just stood there, halfway between walking out of there and obeying her."I'm going to make you an offer because I felt like what I did wasn't the best way to end things, you were just children caught in the worlds of adult who couldn't decide" Elizabeth started "I want to make everything better for everyone, I'll pay for your dad to get clean and go to rehab and I know everything happening to your sister so I'll help settle that too and you'll get to see your brother again"I did not understand what was happening anymore."How do you know about my sister?"Elizabeth chuckled "I have my ways" She said.I watched her waiting to catch some signs of dishonesty, some signs of a catch and a reason for this."I would see my brother again?" I asked slowly. She nodded but said nothing.Elizabeth Thorn found me in a lowly bar in the middle of New York and offered me everything I could ever want. There must be something I'm not getting, something I do not understand. She never does something without a reason."And what's the catch?"That cracked her demeanor, I caught the hint of a smile in it though and she cleared her throat before answering me."That's the thing isn't it dear, no one offers anything to anyone for free" She said. She smiled at me fully now."You'll marry my son of course"And that's the catch.Vanessa's point of view"Well you'll marry my son of course"Elizabeth Thorn had only one child, only one son. I heard from my elder sister gossips about how she had to have her uterus removed because she bled too much when she had him. Also heard from the same sister that was why she wouldn't let us go close to our brother. Those were gossips."You do remember my son, don't you?" She asked. She was watching me closely now and I felt naked, like she could read through me and know my thoughts."How could I forget" I answered, my tone bland and dull.I took my seat back because my head was spinning around the possibility of having everything I always wanted handed to me on a silver platter but with the side attraction of getting married to her son.I leaned forward "Your son is certainly attractive enough, why can't he get married to whomever he wants without your help. I've seen his pictures with the models and actresses and even the girls that are way below his level" I whispered to he
Anthony's point of viewShe wasn't a great beauty or had any particular features that attracted me to her but damn had she given me one of thebest sex of my life.I watched as she got up from that bed, her waist so dainty it made me want to drag her back into bed so we could continue what we stopped."Why are you looking at me like that?" She asked shyly. She was close to the window that overlooked the grounds and the gates.I watched her as she arched her body into various positions, twisted and turnedher body to catch the early rays of the sun."You look quite beautiful my dear and damn you really know how to work a man up. It's quite adorable" I told her.She laughed, her head thrown back. She was staring at me now and had that twinkle in her eyes."And who told you I want to come a second time, you were not that good" She teased me."You know that's a lie" I teased back "I'll never tell you the truth" She said and as if she got a voice whispering to her, she winked at me."Perhaps
Anthony's point of viewShe would sit at the back of her class and listen to whatever the teacher had to say without missing anything. She would ace any exam she had. And she would argue with me all day long and one time, she even smacked my head because I wouldn't listen to her reason. And it was a tacky reason.I was not going to have a marriage of convenience or whatever it was my parents call it with Vanessa Ives. I was done with her. I had been done with her a long time ago.She had sent some other texts after I received the first one. Deleted them without even reading. I had no inclination whatsoever to know what she wanted to tell me.Was that why I was drinking myself silly on a Monday evening?"Marriage is not such a bad thing Anthony, if you don't love your wife, you could always get mistresses" Ronald said after I told him what happened. He wasn't drinking as he had promised to stay sober for an entire year but that doesn't mean he wasn't going to get off on some other soci
Vanessa's point of view"Then the person would shove the feelings down their throats and keep it to themselves"Anthony did not wait for me, he paid for the food and left the restaurant. Even the memories that came with this place did not affect him the way it affected me. He had truly transformed from the cool charming boy I once had a crush on when I was younger to this confident man that didn't ask for anything.Mary however was at home when I arrived, she was on the bed with the guy from the bar. And they were doing something I would rather not have walked right into."V, you're here" She said as soon as she heard my gasp. She did not get up from the bed and the guy did not even deem it right to say an hello to me and stop this shenanigans. Oh, they went right into it. My day had been quite terrific enough without any of this added to it. "Could you guys take this to your house instead of doing it all over my bed, I had a long day today and I want to get some sleep this night" I
"I'm so sorry" My hands flew to my mouth in an attempt to stop another embarrassment from pouring out of it.Elizabeth was awfully calm, she moved backwards far away from me as fast as she could and requested for a cleaner to come upstairs to clean the mess and without even a glance at me, she walked through a door at the side of the office.A bathroom probably."Take this" A water bottle appeared in my face as soon as she was gone. It was from Anthony who gave a small smile to accompany the bottle of water."Look at me messing up the advice I gave you" I said as I took the bottle from him. I needed to wash my mouth anyway and it looked like Elizabeth was in the only bathroom in this office."I need to use the ....." I didn't finish the sentence before he understood what I was trying to say. Anthony told me to follow him and I did just that, he was always leading me somewhere when we were younger and I would follow him to places where no one would expect to find a couple of children.
Vanessa's point of viewSo the whole world knew I was getting married to their eligible billionaire and the girls would probably hate me now.Elizabeth Thorn just fucked up my entire life for the second time."Probably not the whole world but the states in the US and some other countries in Europe and Africa" Victor voiced out when he couldn't stand the silence anymore.Anthony just took a seat far away from me of course and went on texting someone, probably his girlfriend whom he needs to explain the situation to.Mary's text came before her call and before I had the chance to even read it. I placed my phone to my ear and excused myself from the kitchen."Girl, we're not cool for a few days and you go and get married to the yummiest eligible bachelor" She practically screeched out the words like a bird into my ears "And you get to meet his hot dad"I met Mary two years after the Thorn family cast us out and she doesn't know a lot about my past so she doesn't know I've met the hot dad
Vanessa's point of viewAnthony wasn't soaking wet so I knew the intensity of the rain has probably gone down. But he was angry and when Anthony was angry, it was best to stay out of his way."I did not know you texted me" I said in an attempt to calm him down but that seemed to infuriate him the more.Anthony's face was so close to mine I could count his lashes and man, were they beautiful."In this modern day and time, you did not know I texted you. You have a phone and you're a normal breathing person" He cursed under his breath at the end and moved farther away from me "I do not like the things you do Vanessa"That was the exact moment One night stand....need to find a better name for him...decided to comment on our situation."Wait Mary, you did not tell me your roommate was the girl on the news, I could kidnap her for major bucks"The fuck.Mary's palm hit her face in a way I hoped wouldn't cause bruises. And now Anthony was almost murderous."What did you say?" He said in such
Anthony's point of viewI wasn't able to concentrate. I hadn't been able to concentrate on anything since yesterday. Her scent lingered in the air for my sense of smell to continue dwelling on, that wonderful scent of lilies and jasmine. Her face was the only thing I could see when I closed my eyes. Before she broke my heart in the cruelest of ways.I hadn't even realize Vanessa would be a target for scrutinization from the public and a revenue for random until that dude said it in her house and I realized I had to protect her.She couldn't go back to her job which would be swarmed with reporters. She wouldn't be able to go out in the streets like a normal person anymore. She probably knew how to control the paparazzi, it was a mandatory class mom made every child she knew take. Even though, the Ives family stayed away from the spotlight, mom wanted them to learn. You never know when one might find one of them in her company. My phone screen lit up, another text from my assistant.
