RYAN'S POV

While the meeting went on, I felt Ethan's body tremble beside me.

His heartbeat pounded so fast, and mine instinctively responded, growing restless.

I turned to him sharply. He swayed, eyes unfocused, and his body folding in on itself

I caught him just before he collapsed.

The room erupted in startled murmurs. All eyes turned to us.

Having him lying unconscious in my arms made me tense. My wolf thrashed beneath my skin, snarling to be let out.

I cradled Ethan tighter against my chest, my instinct overriding my sense of reasoning.

He felt so fragile, so light… too light.

Guards rushed in, and before I could object, they took him from me.

I wanted to tear them away, to carry him to the Healer myself. But the stares of the council snapped me back to reality.

I wasn’t supposed to touch him. Not like that. Not in public. Not when he was perceived to be just a servant.
