Grace's pov

“It is not what you think,” I said, taking some clothes to the closet to arrange.

“I think it is just what I am thinking,” she said with a tease creeping into her voice. “You are flushed and you are avoiding my eyes which means you are shy to talk about it,”

I groaned and covered my face. “Please don’t.”

But Valentina laughed. “Relax, Grace. You are not the first woman Silvano has–”

She stopped abruptly.

What?

I turned slowly to her, my heart thudding. “What?” I asked, voice barely above a whisper.

Her smile faded, and she turned her face away from me. “Never mind,”

“He has what?” I pressed on, wanting her to continue.

“Forget I said anything.”

But I couldn’t.

She didn't mean to say what she said, but she said it anyway, so she has to complete it.

“Valentina,” I said, stepping closer to her. “What were you going to say?”

She hesitated, her fingers suddenly busy folding a dress that didn’t need folding. “I really shouldn’t have—”

“But you did,” I said, interrupting her.
