Chapter 62: The found her

Chris’s POV (Continued)

Four rings. Still no answer.

I let it ring one more time before the call ended on its own.

No voicemail. No message. Just silence.

I stared at the screen, heart still racing, waiting like maybe the phone would light up again with a call back. But it didn’t.

I leaned back on the couch and let out a long breath I hadn’t realized I’d been holding.

She didn’t pick up.

And that hurt more than I thought it would.

Not because I expected her to jump at the sound of my name on the screen. No, I had no right to expect that. But still… part of me had hoped.

Hoped she had hear the call, pause, and just… pick up.

Even if she was angry. Even if she said nothing.

I just wanted her to know I tried.

I stayed there for a while, just staring at the wall. The apartment was quiet…too quiet. Outside, I could hear the sounds of the city: cars, distant chatter, the rhythm of people moving on with their lives. And here I was, sitting in the middle of my livi

Chapter 93: Crossing Lines Xander’s POVI woke up at 6:15 a.m. My head felt heavy, like I had slept through a storm. I stayed in bed for a few minutes, staring at the ceiling. All I could think about was Diana…her smile and everything other thing i was can remember about her. Then I grabbed my phone.I had to make a call I have been avoiding.I scrolled down to Mercy’s name and pressed the button. She answered on the second ring.“Hello love?” Her voice was small.I told you to stop addressing me as if I were addressing you as boss or else you will leave my company. But that is not why I called you today.“Mercy,” I said calmly. “We need to talk.”There was a long silence. I heard her take a deep breath.“I know you’ve been calling me and have refused to answerand now you are disturbing my manager about my whereabouts. Asking where I am,” I said. “You have to stop that.”She didn’t say anything right away.“I’m not hiding from you either am I owning you. I have found my soulmate…Dian

Chapter 92: Back to the RoutineDiana’s POVBack to the Routine….The alarm buzzed softly beside my bed. I opened my eyes slowly and turned to check the time…5:30 AM.Another early morning.I sat up, still wrapped in my blanket. The room was quiet, and the air felt cold on my skin. But I couldn’t stay in bed. Not today. I had orders to prepare….especially for Chris’s hotel and restaurants. It had been a long time since I delivered anything to them. Everything stopped the day my world fell apart. But now… I was back. Slowly picking up the pieces.I slipped out of bed quietly, careful not to wake my son. He was still sleeping, peaceful and warm.I walked into the kitchen and tied my apron. The smell of flour and sugar filled the air within minutes. I began baking, mixing dough, beating eggs, and checking the oven. Then I moved to the fryer…sizzling oil and golden crusts. I did both at once—baking and frying. My feet hurt. My arms were tired. But I didn’t stop.It was a lot. Too much for

Chapter 91:The Secret I Have KeptChris’s POVI stared at my phone, watching the typing bubble appear… then disappear. She read my messages. She was online. But she didn’t reply.I couldn’t blame her. I deserved that.I was sitting in my chair inside my house, but my heart felt like it was running a race. I leaned back in the seat and ran my fingers through my hair, letting out a long, tired breath.I messed up. Bad.I never meant to disappear on her. At first, I was just really busy. One meeting led to another, one trip turned into two. I thought I’d call her the next day. Then the next day. Then another. But then… everything went wrong.I got pulled into something I didn’t expect. Something dangerous. And I couldn’t tell her. Now, she probably hates me.And honestly? She has every reason to.The last time I saw Diana, it was just the two of us. One small moment. One coffee. One laugh. A short break from all the noise in our lives. I still remember her smile…it wasn’t big, but it was

  • A Pulse And Betrayal    Chapter 90: the Secret I have kept.

Chapter 90: the Secret I have kept.Diana’s POVThe morning sun slipped through my bedroom curtains, painting soft lines across the wooden floor. The room smelled faintly of cinnamon and warm bread, leftover from yesterday’s rush at the bakery. It should have brought me comfort. But instead, my heart felt like a weight in my chest.I sat on the edge of the bed, clutching the edge of the blanket, my bare feet cold against the floor. My mind was anything but quiet. After all the crying and talking the other day, Akin and I exchanged numbers. It felt good, but also right. She told me that she had returned to the city and couldn’t stay away anymore. She said she also tried to convince Xander to come with her, but he refused.A part of me was relieved. Another part of me was terrified.Because if Xander came back…to my life he might find out.If he sees my boy… he will start suspending someone If he looked into his eyes for even a second…He would know. He would see the truth.I pulled t

Chapter 89: I’m Not Letting Her Go Xander’s POVThe hotel room door clicked shut behind us, but the silence stayed. I walked in first, dragging my suitcase behind me. The air inside was cool, and the curtains were drawn, shutting out the city lights. Akin entered after me, speaking briefly with the private investigator before dismissing him.I dropped onto the couch, my body aching from the emotional weight of everything that had just happened.Diana forgave me.Even now, those three words rang in my head like a song I never expected to hear again. She had held me, not tightly, not long…but long enough to melt the ice I had lived in for years. And now, I didn’t know what to do with that.Akin stood near the window, arms folded. She wasn’t smiling, but the tightness in her face was gone. She looked at me for a long second before speaking.“My Boss,” she said, her voice steady. “The private investigator has confirmed that everything is settled now. Diana’s charges will be dropped by mo

Chapter 88:The Weight of Everything Xander’s POVI can’t stop smiling. She was alive.Whole.Radiant.And looking more beautiful than I had ever let myself remember.Standing there, wrapped in Akin’s arms, her curls wild like freedom, her dress clinging like soft firelight, her eyes red from crying….but real. Present. Breathing. And I couldn’t move.I was frozen, watching from the sidelines like a coward. The man I used to be would have stormed forward, demanded attention, asserted control. But that man had died the day she walked away…and buried himself in every day she stayed gone. Now I stood here… silenced by the storm of my own making.Akin held her like she never planned to let her go again. I watched her kiss her cheeks, her forehead, her hands. They cried together, laughed through their tears, and whispered things only best friends understand. And all I could do was stand there like an intruder in my own life.Every breath hurt.God, I wanted to speak. To say her name.To con
