Chapter 52: Interruptions - Amelia

We happily dive into our food, stealing glances at each other between bites and it makes me feel like a teenager being all silly with her crush. I never thought I was this person, but I rather like it. With things going better between us I feel myself opening up and relaxing around him more instead of being guarded.

“There’s something I’ve been dying to ask you,” he says after taking another sip of his bourbon and coke.

“Should I be scared?”

“I don’t think so,” he chuckles, “I just can’t for the life of me figure out what Mei is,” he says making me freeze with my fork near my mouth. This makes me frown; I wasn’t expecting this question.

“Is it that bad?” He asks with a worried tone.

“No, it’s not that. It’s just not public knowledge, only a select few know what she is, and I’ve been doing my best to keep it that way. I wanted to make sure she was strong and able to protect herself before we let it be more public.”

“Oh. I can understand that,” he concedes.
