“Welcome,” Jennifer, Slater’s daughter welcomed me at the door. She was a slender, auburn haired woman like her father.

Her friends stood behind her and their eyes were full of curiosity. I knew their mouths must be itching to start talking about me and I had come prepared to be talked about.
