After a day of lazing around and trying to distract herself, Bea succeeded and finally lost the swelling of her eyes. Since she wanted to distract herself more, she chose to go outside and play while she was still on vacation.
“It was really different from home…” she mumbled as she entered the mall. Unlike back home, just going to the mall took more time despite being close to the hotel that she was in. The city had too many cars that kept the road too crowded to go smoothly.
She looked around and was amazed by the towering establishments and the mall that she entered was too big, she somehow felt like she would easily get lost.
“This is better,” she thought as she gripped the handkerchief in her hand. Being distracted by an unfamiliar place would be better than being stuck inside her hotel room.
Her eyes were full as she indulged herself in looking at the luxurious clothing from stalls to stalls. There were dresses that she liked but she immediately looked away every time she would see the price tag. Who would buy a dress that was as expensive as her weekly food budget?
While looking around, she didn’t have a definite destination. She just let her feet take her to wherever it went. As a result, she passed by different shops and she even tried going inside to check on them.
Despite being an adult, she was still amazed by the mall. She felt like a child going out for the first time. Well, it was her first time in a while. After her graduation, she could barely remember the days when she spent her days off going out and enjoying herself—except for the days that she spent with William.
“Here we go again…” she complained as she rolled her eyes. How many times would she have to stop herself from thinking of him?
She shook her head to dismiss the negative emotion that was swelling inside her and looked for a place where she could eat. Though she was fine with eating in a fast-food diner, she felt like she was craving for something expensive.
Once again, her mind was in a state of confusion. Should she splurge again? It would be the last time. But she already bought herself an expensive meal yesterday. Would it be fine if she used her money more?
While looking around, her eyes were caught by a familiar figure in the middle of the busy establishment. There were people walking to and fro but the figure just stood there in the middle. His head was moving from left to right as if he was in a state of confusion.
She walked towards the figure to confirm and her eyes grew wide when she realized that she was right.
“Caleb, where is your nanny?” After she realized that it was the child, her mouth moved on its own and let out a worried tone. “Are you lost?”
Caleb looked at her and his eyes grew wide when he realized who she was. She smiled as she crouched so that she would be close to his eye level.
“Why are you here alone?” she asked again while looking around for Caleb’s caretaker. Her brows furrowed when she found no one who could have been looking for him.
“Actually…” Caleb looked down and avoided her eyes. “I was the one who wandered away.”
Though she was the one who approached and asked him, she didn’t expect him to trust her easily. It was fortunate that the kid didn’t stop himself from telling her his situation.
The mall was too big and it was easy to lose sight of the young ones if they weren’t attentive enough. Just how did the adults that came along with him end up losing him? They should’ve been more careful especially since it was Caleb!
“Do you have your phone or a phone number that I can call?” Bea asked in a gentle tone, afraid that Caleb would feel scared.
Caleb shook his head. “I have my phone here with me, but I don’t want to be with them yet.”
Bea’s brows furrowed. What was he trying to say?
When Caleb noticed her confusion, he talked again. “Can you just keep it a secret that I’m here? I’ll call them later once I’m done with my plans.”
His plans? What could a six-year-old’s plan be that he needed to get away from his guardians?
“No. I couldn’t just leave you alone without someone who would watch over you.” Bea’s tone was stern. She knew that Caleb was somehow mature for his age, but he was still a kid. She wouldn’t let him go off on his own. “Tell me what are your plans and I would help you do it.”
Caleb looked away. “Amu…ark.”
Bea leaned closer because she couldn’t understand Caleb’s mumbling. “Come again?”
“I want to go to the amusement park…” Caleb looked to the other side, embarrassed. “I know that I shouldn’t be acting like this, but Daddy was too busy and I’ve never been there even once.”
Bea wanted to sigh but she held it in. She could understand that a business tycoon could be busy, but if he had time to pose in front of the camera with his son, shouldn’t he also spend time with him doing something fun?
She managed to let out an enthusiastic smile as she gently patted Caleb’s shoulder. “Shall I bring you there?”
Caleb’s eyes sparkled in excitement. “Really?”
“But, we need to let your father know. I’m afraid he would sue me for kidnapping you if I just took you away without him knowing,” she joked.
Caleb immediately took out his phone and dialed his father’s number. Bea just smiled as she watched the child talk with his dad. He was trying to sound mature but she could see his excitement with the way he talked.
After they finished talking, Caleb looked at her with a smile and handed her his phone. “Daddy wants to talk to you.”
Bea took the phone with slight nervousness. She was afraid that Mr. Suarez might scold her for intervening with their personal lives but she couldn’t just ignore Caleb. She took a deep breath before she put the phone near her ear.
“Yes, this is Bea.” She tried hard to keep her voice calm. Who would’ve thought that it would be nerve-racking when talking to a CEO?
“Miss Bea, can I get your number?”
“WHAT?” She was so startled by Mr. Suarez’s question that she ended up raising her voice. Why would he even ask for her number?
“I need your contact number. Caleb could forget his phone when he’s having fun. I need you to update me with my son’s whereabouts.” Mr. Suarez sounded indifferent as if he was just doing things because he needed to.
Somehow Bea felt annoyed that a father would treat his son that way. Was he really okay with entrusting his son to a stranger like her? What if she had hidden motives while she was taking care of Caleb? Didn’t he know how prone Caleb was to kidnapping?
In the end, she just held her annoyance in and gave him her number. It would be better for her if she could contact him immediately in case of an emergency. After that, he allowed her to bring Caleb wherever he wanted and told her that he would compensate her for the inconvenience.
What kind of mindset was that? Did he think that his son was an inconvenience?
“He allowed me, right?”Bea smiled when she sensed the anticipation in Caleb’s voice. She nodded her head as she gave him back his phone. “Yes, Caleb. You want me to bring you to the amusement park, right?”Caleb looked at her with hopeful eyes. “You’ll bring me there, right?”“Of course!” Bea chuckled before she took her phone out of her pocket and saw an unregistered number calling her. “This is Bea. I’ll save your number and I’ll update you every thirty minutes.”She ended the call when she heard Mr. Suarez says okay. She looked back at Caleb who was holding on tightly to the strap of his bag. With a gentle smile, she offered her hand to Caleb. “Shall we go now?”Though it was just for a while, Bea saw a glimpse of Caleb’s childish smile. She wished she could see it longer since the kid deserved to act like one. If it wasn’t for his indiff
They were waiting in line for the jungle log jam when Bea’s phone vibrated. She took out her phone and her left brow was raised when she saw Mr. Suarez’s message.Update?Wow. Did he have alarms going off every thirty minutes? It was true that she told him that she would update him every thirty minutes but he was really spot on! Couldn’t she be late for a few minutes? She opened the messaged and typed a reply. Caleb rode different rides here. I also bought him food. He looked like he was really having a lot of fun. After the message was sent, Bea put back her phone and smiled since it was already their turn.“Are you excited?” Bea asked as soon as they were seated.“Not really.” Caleb looked at the side and held onto the bar tight. He was calm when the ride started moving. As soon as they were already high up, he peeked downwards and abruptly closed his eyes. She looked at th
The two were having fun eating when Bea’s phone vibrated again. She rolled her eyes as she took a bite from her waffle. Mr. Suarez was really something. He was definitely texting her after every 30 minutes. Was she that unreliable?Update? As usual. He would ask for updates again. She rolled her eyes once more before she clicked the reply button.Still eating waffles. Want some? She just looked at her phone, thinking whether she should send it or not. Was it okay to be a little informal to him? He was still a CEO even if he had been a little annoying since earlier. She was about to press the delete button when Caleb tugged at her sleeve.“What is it? Do you want more?” Bea asked when she noticed that Caleb was done with his food.“You won’t take back what you said earlier, right?” Caleb looked anxious but she somehow felt proud. Finally, Caleb was slowly opening up to him. Caleb co
“Daddy…” Caleb went out of his room with his pajamas and messy hair. He was still rubbing his eyes as he walked towards the dining table where his father was eating. “Can I go to Miss Bea’s place today?”Callum was busy checking his tablet for his schedule and the reports that he needed to check for that day. In front of him were a cup of coffee and an untouched sandwich.“Why would you bother her again?” Callum said but his eyes were still on his tablet.Caleb looked down as he started eating the cereal that was prepared for him. Bea told him that it would be all right to visit her and hang out with her again. Would he really be a bother?“She told me that I can meet her again…” he mumbled as he took another spoonful of cereal.Callum put down his tablet and called for his son’s nanny. “He’s going out today. Make sure that he had everything while he is out and br
“Miss Bea!” Caleb excitedly ran towards Bea who waited by the door as soon as she received Caleb’s call. She was so eager to meet with Caleb and have him taste the spaghetti and lasagna that she cooked for him. Since she did not know whether the kid liked pasta or not, she also made sure to cook meatballs and fried chicken for him.She looked at the nanny who seemed surprised by Caleb’s affection towards her. After giving her a smile, she offered her hand to take Caleb’s bag from her.“I’ll take it from here. Thank you for bringing Caleb.”The nanny nodded politely before she turned her back and left.Bea looked at Caleb with an enthusiastic expression and held his hand. “I prepared foods for you, do you want to eat first?”Caleb’s expression lit up and he excitedly nodded his head. They both went inside and she led him towards the table with a proud smile.“Tada~
“We’re really at the zoo, Miss Bea!” Caleb said while looking at the cab window. “Will there be wild animals in there?”“Yes. Are you excited to see lions and tigers in there?”Caleb nodded his head in glee. “I’ve always wanted to see them ever since.”“Then shall we start roaming around?” Bea helped Caleb walk out of the cab.The kid looked fascinated by all the people coming in and out of the entrance. There were also souvenir and food stalls on the side which made the entrance even busier.“There are so many people here.” Caleb stared at the souvenir stalls so Bea guided him closer.“Do you want something?”Caleb immediately shook his head. “I don’t need anything.”Despite his answer, Bea noticed how he looked at the tiger cap on one of the stalls. She smiled as she pulled the kid closer to where the cap was sold
“That was so much fun!” Caleb said as soon as they walked through the exit. “I never expected that the animals would be so big. The tigers were amazing. They looked fierce but nice at the same time. I was shocked when I heard the lion roar! It wasn’t angry that time, right?”Caleb continued babbling as they walked towards the Cab Terminal. It seemed that he truly enjoyed looking at the animals in the zoo. It was a good thing that she thought of the zoo when she heard that he would be coming to hang out with her.She was about to enter the cab when her phone rang. She walked to the side and let the other person who was next in line take the cab before she answered her phone.“Where are you?” The familiar baritone voice asked from the other line.“We’re just about to take a cab back to the hotel.” She held Caleb’s hand to make sure that he would not go anywhere before she continued talking, &
“Sir, you have a visitor,” Callum’s secretary, Ms. Ponce, said as soon as she entered his office. The man just looked at her before he turned his eyes to the side where his schedule was posted. “I don’t think I have an appointment at this time of the day.”“It’s actually the chairman who came to visit you…” Ms. Ponce looked down when she saw the indifferent expression on her boss’s face.“I’ll meet him.” Callum stood up and put on his coat before walking towards the door. “Lead the way.”Ms. Ponce gladly took the lead and opened the door to the receiving room of her boss’s office. Since the atmosphere was heavy, she did not even dare to look at the chairman who was waiting for her boss.“What a surprise. What brought you here?” Callum asked as soon as the door behind him was closed.Carlo Suarez, Callum’s father, was comfo
