I shrugged my shoulders as a chill ran down to my spine while I headed toward the hospital to be with mom.

Maybe like Frankenswine, I will find a corner in the hospital room and feel somewhat safe by a miracle.

The hospital hall was white and silent. My footsteps echoed in the hall as I made way to the room where mom had been shifted. My heart tightened in a knot as I grabbed the handle and gathered all my courage to enter the room. The past few days had been such an emotional rollar coaster, and now the argument with Adrian just fuelled my sadness.

“August?” Mom’s croaked voice called out to me, making my eyes snap open.

I pushed the door open and walked right in. Mom was sitting up in bed, leaning over to the nightstand to place the glass of water on the nightstand next to the bed.

The moment I saw her, I broke in tears. There were dark circles under her eyes and she was so thin but her eyes brightened when she saw me.
