Chapter 2

Autor: Coffee with Ice
I stepped out of the office with my bag as I typed a response, "You're the best, darling! I'm so lucky!

"Give me 30 minutes. We'll go on with that game."

I followed up with a kiss emoji and another text. "I want to cuddle with you online right now. Hehe!"

As I waited for a reply, I saw a tall figure in my periphery and hurriedly put the phone away.

I was unsure if it was because I felt guilty for badmouthing him, but I blurted, "Mr. Barlow, you're leaving work?"

Zack glanced at me coldly and replied, "Mind your own business."

I tamped my irritation down wordlessly for the sake of my six-figure salary.

My phone kept vibrating. Z had likely responded, but I dared not look at his messages. Zack was taller than me, and I was worried he'd see my messages cursing him. Then I'll be doomed.

Once inside the elevator, I tried to make myself seem smaller. I stared at the falling numbers, wishing I could arrive sooner.

I caught a glimpse of Zack's reflection on the elevator doors. A strange smile had appeared on his perpetually icy face while he looked at his phone.

What?! Zack Barlow knew how to smile? Who on earth was that person on the phone?

I was so stunned that I forgot to look away.

Zack caught me staring, and his expression turned icy once more. "Do you find my looks so surprising, Ms. Atlas?" he asked mildly.

I did not respond.

After getting home, I took a quick shower and lay down, launching my game.

As soon as Z came online, I pulled him into a chatroom. "There you are, darling! I've missed you. Come hug me!

"Oh, you're playing as Lilly? Go put on the new skin I bought."

If there was one downside to online dating, it was that Z was a bit of a novice when it came to games.

Yet, it was alright. I could play as Rex, and that was enough. I was in charge of chaos and killing, while his job was to wait and celebrate for our victory.

Back then, it was my decent gaming skills that won Z over.

I heard a low chuckle through the receiver. "Are you feeling better?"

I grinned and replied, "Much better. As long as I don't have to breathe the same air as that prick, I feel fantastic."

There was a brief silence before I heard Z's voice, tinged with mirth. "Would wearing a mask make you feel better at work tomorrow?"

"Honey, don't be so cheesy," I retorted.

Since I left work late, I only played a few rounds before it was time to sleep.

We had switched from the in-game voice chat to a regular phone call. "Darling, I've not seen your abs yet today."

Z then sent me three pictures taken from different angles. I zoomed in on each one to admire it.

I was likely silent for too long because Z asked, "Do you like them, honey?"

I kicked my feet in the air wildly before squealing, "They look amazing!"

I was never going to get tired of them, even if I saw them every day.

"Do you want to see them in person?" Z suddenly asked.

This made me pause mid-swipe.

Z and I had been together for almost a year, yet this was the first time he brought up meeting in person.

To be frank, I was a bit hesitant. I was worried he wasn't what I imagined him to be, and that I wasn't what he envisioned, either.

Given how rushed things were at first, I never imagined us lasting this long.

From our daily interactions, we seemed to get along well. He was very stable emotionally. No matter what I dumped on him, he took it in stride and never behaved condescendingly.

When that thought crossed my mind, I had the urge to say yes.

I reckoned that everyone now understood, seeing their gazes shift from shock to awe. Jenny, in particular, was practically vibrating with excitement. Zack tucked away his phone, his gaze icy. "So, the reason your work was subpar was because you were moonlighting as paparazzi, Mr. Marr? That's me you photographed. Would you like to check under my bed, too?"William was fired that same afternoon.Regarding the lawsuit over the unauthorized photography and defamation, Zack didn't want me to bother about it anymore. I never imagined my relationship with Zack to be exposed like this. It was utterly ridiculous.I stormed into his office and gave him a piece of my mind. If he hadn't insisted I come see him yesterday, I wouldn't have been photographed solo, leading to this misunderstanding. As I stepped out, Jenny gave me a small cake. "So, you were his companion, and you were with me all this time? Given our friendship, it wouldn't be too much to ask you to have Mr. Barlow go easy on

  • A Toast to Tonight   Chapter 14

Zack's return coincided with the company's celebratory banquet for a major project. He rushed straight from the airport to the banquet hall. Dressed in a black suit, he looked weary from the journey, yet still radiated an air of distinguished elegance. Many people surrounded him, offering compliments and toasts, but he responded blandly.Halfway through the banquet, I received a text. "Basement parking, Section B. I'm waiting for you, darling."I snuck into the parking lot like a thief, wishing I had a few more pairs of eyes.As thrilling as trysts were, they were terrible for the heart. As soon as I approached the black Bentley, the rear door swung open, and someone pulled me into an embrace that carried a refreshing scent. The car was dimly lit, the faint smell of alcohol lingering in the air."Did you miss me?" came Zack's deep voice in my ear. I could hear the weariness in it, but there was also affection. I'd never felt this way when we first met. We had only been apart f

Zack arched a brow, a hint of teasing in his voice despite his gentle gaze. "Are you planning on guarding my door?""You wanted to see me?" I asked.Zack didn't answer immediately. He merely walked up to me, sighing softly. "Are you still anxious?"He leaned in, the fresh scent of his shower gel mingling with his own icy air to create a certain type of allure.I instinctively took a step back, but he wrapped his arm around my waist. "You called me baby online," he murmured. "Where's all the bravado now that we have to actually cuddle?"My face flushed crimson as I glared at him indignantly. "How is that the same? I never knew it was you I was speaking to!"Zack lowered his head. "But you know now. I'm flying to Minnen at 8:00 pm for a week-long business trip, and I want to fulfill my promise before I leave."Before I could grasp what he was saying, he guided my hand beneath his shirt, splaying it across his abdomen. This time, with no fabric in the way, I could feel the clear c

The sea breeze carried a gentle spray that swept over me. Even my heart was in disarray. I looked up at Zack, saying nothing yet. However, my initial reluctance had begun to fade. When Zack was not being a cocky prick, he bore a striking resemblance to Z. His tone was even, and he sounded sincere and reassuring.Zack paused, his tone softening considerably until it melted into the voice I knew so well. "You once said you'd like me no matter what I looked like. Does that no longer hold true?"I just wished I hadn't been such a chatterbox back then, blurting out talk like that as if it came cheap. Now, I was stuck with a bunch of complications.I stammered, unable to utter a single complete sentence for ages.Zack took the opportunity to pull me closer. "Didn't you say you wanted to feel my abs when we met?"He took my hand and gently placed it on his abdomen. Through the fabric, I could feel the intense heat radiating off him.I tried to pull back, but he held my hand tight. "Gi

I dared not look back. From behind me, I heard Zack's voice, which seemed slightly resigned. "I didn't mean to deceive you, Hayley. I had no idea."It wasn't until you mentioned I was your boss that I realized who you were. In fact, it was only slightly earlier than you realized."I didn't tell you because I was afraid of scaring you away, and that you could not accept me. "Let's just eat first, shall we?"The intense emotions had subsided, and I had calmed down considerably despite still feeling awkward.Sensing my hesitation, Zack tightened his grip on my wrist slightly. However, his tone was even gentler when he spoke."We ordered lobster and steak. It'd be a waste not to eat it. There's nobody here but us."I was wondering why there wasn't a single person in such a good restaurant. It turned out to be booked for a private event.Zack had some seriously deep pockets. After a moment's thought, I sat down again.Zack waved his hand, and the waiter began serving us food. I

I sent Z a text. "Babe, I'm already here—third row by the window. I'm wearing a dark green dress, and I have chestnut-brown curls. I'm waiting for you!"After sending the message with a kissing emoji attached, I suddenly felt an inexplicable nervousness, my heart pounding wildly.I couldn't sit still once I became nervous.I pulled out a mirror to check my makeup, then rearranged the bouquet of champagne roses, glancing constantly toward the entrance. For some reason, I was the only one here. Was the food so bad that the business was this slow?Just as I thought this, a waiter ushered someone inside. To create a romantic ambiance, the lighting inside the shop was dim and warm. From a distance, I couldn't make out his features. He wore a white shirt and black dress pants. He was tall, broad-shouldered, with a narrow waist, and he stood straight. He also seemed oddly familiar. As he drew nearer, his features became clearer. Hang on. Zack? What on earth was he doing here? He had
