Suddenly, something felt off, and her expression slowly darkened.

Her friend Maureen, who had just finished flirting with the cute bartender, turned around and sighed with relief.

"Serena, you just went to the restroom. What took you so long?"

"There's a guy with gold-rimmed glasses next to Damien. Maureen, can you check him out for me?"

"Why?"

"

He looks familiar, but I can't place him."

"Okay." Maureen blinked, her long, dark false eyelashes fluttering.

"By the way, Serena, there's something I've been meaning to tell you."

"Hmm?" Xenia asked, ordering another drink from the bartender.

Before she could take a second sip, she heard...

"Did you know? Brad is back."

"......"

It was as if a switch had been flipped in her heart.

Serena's wine glass slipped from her hand, shattering on the floor with a sound that was both haunting and fragmented.

In the open booth on the second floor, there were three people.

Damien held a cigarette between his fingers, leisurely reviewing the contract on his lap.

Lucas Graham, a man with gold-rimmed glasses, looked across at an old classmate he hadn't seen in ages, his gaze eventually settling on the cane by the man's side.

Brad's demeanor was still gentle and composed, just like back in high school—polite and reserved.

Unlike the rest of them, who frequented bars and chased girls in packs, he was always the model student.

No one expected that after entering college, they'd suddenly hear that the most upright and gentle boy from back then had been in a car accident because of a woman and would rely on a cane for the rest of his life.

"Lucas, if you're so interested in my cane, should I just give it to you?"

"Uh... sorry, I was just wondering what happened back then that made you rush into the road so recklessly," Lucas said, adjusting his glasses. "In high school, you seemed to only like one girl and then you lost touch, right?"

Brad lowered his eyes, smiling without saying a word.

Damien finished reading the contract, tossed it aside and through the swirling smoke, noticed a hint of bitterness at the corner of Brad's mouth.

"Looks like you're troubled by love?"

Damien's tone carried a faint hint of mockery and disdain.

Love, what kind of thing is it, anyway?

Some people are foolish enough to play such silly games, even risking breaking a leg in theprocess...

The contract with the Keasan Group was still under consideration by Damien and Brad wasn't rushing him.

After discussing business, they started chatting about their personal lives.

"Damien, I heard you got married? When are you going to introduce your wife?" Brad, having just returned to the country, asked casually, unaware of the details.

Damien shrugged and smiled, neither confirming nor denying.

In the middle of the conversation, Lucas excused himself to the restroom.

When he returned, he looked a bit flustered, as if he had something to say but was hesitant.

Brad had taken a phone call earlier and had already left. The spacious private room now only had Damien in it. He sat on the sofa, legs crossed, sipping his drink leisurely.

“Damien, you should go take a look outside! It's quite a scene out there..." Lucas urged.

"What does that have to do with me?" Damien replied, indifferent.

"Your new wife is on stage and, well, she's putting on quite a wild show..."

Sure enough, Damien's eyes shot up immediately. In the dim light, his face was sharply defined, his gaze deep and intense.

On the other side, on the bar's stage, Serena's eyes were hazy. She had been chatting with Maureen for a while and as she listened, the alcohol began to take over.

Her mind felt like it was stuffed with cotton, stuck and restless... She suddenly wanted to do something to let it all out.

She placed her hand on the pole and the girl in the bunny costume next to her stepped aside. Serena signaled to the handsome DJ.

Soon, a new dance track started playing.

As the music began, she moved to the beat, letting her body flow with the rhythm.

Her curvy figure was accentuated as she shrugged off her small jacket, leaving only a tight black slip dress.

Her long, dark hair cascaded like seaweed and the chaotic lights layered in the mist.

She seemed like a mythical enchantress stepping out from a distant legend.

Visually, she was unstoppable.

First, she was a sight to behold, then she captured the hearts of the men around her. Most of the onlookers were men.

They whistled excitedly, waving their arms, their bold gazes lingering on Serena's swaying hips and legs.

With her fiery red lips, Serena appeared to be the queen of the night, controlling everything and holding the men in the palm of her hand.

Until she saw Damien's stern face appear…She didn't know when he had jumped onto the stage.

Amidst the wild crowd, he stood tall and graceful, walking towards her with a dark expression.

"Serena Vale."

Amidst the pulsating music, her alluring smile followed the rhythm of his moving lips.

In the next moment, she launched herself at Damien, you haven't left yet? Are you waiting for your wife?" Serena asked, her voice sweet and childlike, made even more so by the alcohol.

Damien looked at the woman with the radiant smile before him. Her upper body was almost pressed against him and besides the scent of alcohol, there was an enchanting allure about her.

He let out a small laugh and grabbed Serena's arm, leading her off the stage.

They stumbled past Lucas, whose expression was a mix of emotions and she was pulled into a dark, empty private room down the hallway.

In the pitch-black room, Serena felt a chill run down her spine as she sensed the man's proximity and the increasing grip on her wrist.

"Mr. Kade, you're hurting me..."

"Being my wife means behaving yourself," Damien said, towering over her. In the moonlight, he could just make out her face, which was as innocent and cunning as a kitten's.

Their breaths mingled in the air, which seemed to be filled with a sticky, intimate tension.

"What's the matter? It's just... a dance," Serena said, her drunkenness giving her a fearless playfulness.

Her fingers lazily twirled around his tie and from her rosy lips, she softly uttered two words, "Just playing... mmph!"

When did Damien become such a nice guy? was the old fox just putting on a new coat of paint, pretending to be a good person?Damien returned with a glass of water and handed Serena her medication. She watched him with a curious expression.Damien frowned slightly. "Why are you staring at me like that? Do you think just by looking at me, you'll magically get better?"Serena shook her head cutely and said, "The nurse told me you stayed here all night watching over me. It really wasn't necessary. I'm the kind of person who just has a little fever and by the next day, it goes away on its own…”Damien kept a straight face. "I was worried you'd burn up in my apartment, and then I'd be accused of murder. I wouldn't be able to clear my name no matter what."Seeing Damien's unexpectedly adorable demeanor, Serena suddenly leaned in when he wasn't paying attention and quickly pecked him on the cheek. Feeling delighted, she said, "Thank you, hubby."Damien looked at her speechlessly and sighed.

Though curious, Damien didn't do anything about it. He didn't wake her up, thinking it might be one of Serena's little tricks. Maybe she was planning something exciting? Wasn't last night enough? After taking a shower and replying to some emails, Damien finally entered the bedroom. He slipped under the covers and gently turned Serena towards him.As she leaned in, he felt a wave of heat coming from her. It took him a second to realize what was happening. She had a high fever.Luckily, they had a digital thermometer at home.Damien took out the thermometer and checked Serena's temperature. It read 103.1°F. She had a high fever. No wonder, as soon as he got into bed, he felt a wave of heat coming from her.Damien gently patted her cheek. "Wake up, you have a high fever. I need to take you to the hospital."By this point, Serena was barely conscious, only managing a faint moan without saying a word.Damien knew he had no choice. If her fever continued, it could be dangerous. He quickly

Cooking was something she avoided whenever possible. After all, which young person these days actually liked cooking? It was such a hassle, especially when you could get anything delivered right to your door. Why would she bother cooking? If it weren't for Damien's insistence tonight, she wouldn't have even considered it. It felt like a waste of time, she could have just ordered some fried chicken or spicy fish stew and enjoyed it while watching her favorite shows. So much more comfortable."Besides, learning to cook doesn't really require mucheffort. You just need to follow a recipe. Open any app and you'll find tons of cooking tutorials, detailed down to the minute. Just follow along. If someone can't manage that, then there's something wrong with their head..."Damien: "..." He felt like he was being criticized even while doing nothing. It seemed like Serena's words had a hidden jab in them.Damien looked at Serena, speechless. "Since you can cook and you're so good at it, why do

Serena glanced at the price and immediately put it back. That kind of high-end beef was ridiculously expensive, meant to rip off the wealthy. No one from a modest background would spend a fortune on beef. For that price, you could practically buy a whole fresh cow.Damien frowned slightly, picked the beef up again and placed it in the cart. "I'll pay."Seeing Serena's pained expression, Damien decisively pulled out his black card. Wow. Who brings a black card to the supermarket? Truly, money was no object for him.Oh well, since Mr. Damien was footing the bill, Serena decided not to hold back. She grabbed whatever caught her eye, especially the expensive stuff. Of course, she could afford it herself, but she was too frugal.Growing up in the slums, she had learned to stretch every penny. Even though she was earning her own money now, saving had become second nature to her.Usually, Serena wouldn't dare to splurge on cherries and strawberries, but today she grabbed several boxes of ea

Serena wasn't really interested in the Yan family drama. What intrigued her more was why Damien was telling her all this.Puzzled, Serena asked, "Why are you telling me this? You don't think I'm interested in him, do you?"Damien replied bluntly, "You better not be.""Wow..." Serena couldn't help but laugh. "Mr. Franklin, you're quite the busybody. Does your house sit by the ocean?"Damein said, "My house isn't by the ocean, but if I wanted, the whole ocean could be mine."Sheesh… What an arrogant guy.How could someone be so full of himself? But considering the power of the Kade family, buying a piece of the ocean wouldn't be impossible. That's why Damien was so cocky.Just because he's got money to throw around, he thinks he's something special? Big deal, he's just a rich kid. No, scratch that, he's a super-rich kid.He really thinks he's all that.Being a rich kid isn't all that impressive. If you're going to be rich, you should be the one who makes it happen.Damien could tell fro

Layla burst out laughing, "Oh my gosh! Is your boss always this funny?"Serena rolled her eyes, "Yeah, he's a real gem. Always thinking about the company, right?"Layla chuckled, "I met him once, but I didn't realize he was such a character. he's quite amusing."Serena laughed, "Not everyone can handle this beauty, you know…”Just as she finished her sentence, she noticed Damien standing right in front of her.Serena was startled, almost having a heart attack. She covered the phone's microphone and glared at him, "Mr. Kade, what are you doing? Walking so quietly? You nearly scared me to death!"Damien replied bluntly, "If you have a clear conscience, you wouldn't be afraid of ghosts knocking. What are you guilty of?""I..."On the other end, Layla said to Serena, "Alright, I'm done teasing you. I have to go live now, so I'll catch you later. Mua... Bye!"Facing Damien's scrutinizing gaze, Serena smiled. She set down her phone and stepped forward, rising on her tiptoes to hook her arm
