It had been a week since Ava found out about her husband sleeping with her best friend. A week since she had seen Brandon.
After that awful fight, Brandon hadn't bothered to come back home and Ava suspected that he was with Mia, after all, he had left, running after Mia after that confrontation. Left to pick up the pieces of her life alone, Ava could hardly keep herself in check. It was so bad that her twin boys started noticing. They were her source of strength, Jesse and Javier but they were a reminder of Brandon. The twins had taken after Brandon with almost everything. Except the blue eyes and perfectly thick brown hair that was Ava's, Ava could confidently say that her children were a hard copy of their father. Ava was currently on the couch, watching Jesse and Javier working on their respective homeworks. Her eyes were on the back of their little heads as she watched them concentrating on their work. She just couldn't understand it. As far as she could tell, Brandon truly loved the twins. She would really rather die than believe that Brandon was faking his love for his boys. Then how could he throw away what they both had, what they built together from scratch? Sniffling softly, she reached for the tissue box and pulled a couple out to blow her nose. Ava hadn't even realised that she was crying until Javier suddenly spoke. "Mommy, why are you crying?" The soft, caring voice made Ava look up to see the nine year old boy, standing infront of her. Ava, forcing a small smile, reached out to cup his cheek while nodding slowly. "Mommy's not crying Javy. It's just a little dust. Okay. I'm fine sweetheart" she tried to reassure the boy who looked doubtful. "Give me a hug and i'll be alright. Come here" Ava cooed and moved closer to hug Javier. Jesse soon joined them and for the first time since she came back, Ava felt like everything would be alright now. "Now who wants some ice cream? We can watch the Avengers or something" Ava suggested as she pulled back to look at her two perfect boys. "Yes, right after you're through with your homework" she added and when the twins complained, she broke into a chuckle. Later that night, right after Ava had put the boys to sleep, she heard the front door open. Walking to the top of the staircase, she looked down just as Brandon made his appearance. When Brandon noticed her, he stood there and looked up at her. The two stood there in absolute silence, just staring into each other's eyes. Unlike before, there was no love involved. On Brandon's side, the look was blank and Ava knew that she had lost him for good. "Why are you back Brandon? I was starting to believe you didn't know your way home" she asked and sighed when Brandon sighed. "Not now Ava. I'm not in the mood for your bullshit" Brandon said coldly and Ava scoffed. "You don't feel anything at all, do you? You've been sleeping with my bestfriend all along and you think i'm bullshitting? What happened to you Brandon? What happened to us?" Ava asked softly as she watched him in disbelief. "Stop Ava..just stop it. What do you want from me? An apology? Fine. I'm sorry. Can we just drop it? I'm tired and--" Brandon said as he made his way up the staircase and walked past her. Ava gripped the railings tightly and closed her eyes, letting the welled up tears trickle down her cheeks. She wasn't done though, she wiped her cheeks , followed Brandon to their room and stood by the door looking at her husband. "When Brandon?" She asked quietly. Ava still couldn't understand how things had come to this point. Brandon didn't use to be like this? He was warm, friendly and had been Ava's safe haven. Right now, all she could see was a cold man. One that didn't resonate with the man she knew. "When what?" Brandon asked as he tossed his jacket on the bed and sat on the bed to take his shoes off. "When did you and Mia start? How long has it been?" She asked. "Ava--" Brandon called out and Ava scoffed. "I at least deserve to know how long you two have been screwing me over. You owe me that much" Ava pleaded and she was trying to be quiet for the sake of her sleeping sons. "Can't i have some peace in my house? I don't want to fight with you Ava so tell me exactly what you want from me" Brandon asked. "Divorce" Brandon's eyes widened slightly when he heard Ava. "I want a divorce"A silver light cut through the curtains, warming the edge of the bed. The serenity of quiet was gone with sounds of the city's traffic blaring in her ears. Ava groaned softly and rolled over on the bed. With her face pressed down against the pillow, an unfamiliar scent hit her nostrils and she blinked as she started to open her eyes. This didn't smell like her bed or looked in the slightest like her room. Her head throbbed, a bugging reminder of the beer she had gobbled down the previous night. She sat up in bed and held her head in her arms, groaning again softly. She didn't remember at first how she had gotten in this situation but after a moment, she raised her head, her eyes wide open as she stared into nothingness. "Fuck!" She exclaimed softly as flashes of the previous night came back to her. The disaster engagement party. The humiliation that almost worked and William. The help, the rescue and the drunken confession. She had made a fool out of herself in front of a stranger. A
Rooftop. Ava looked at William as soon as the door opened and before her eyes was the most beautiful scene she had seen in a long time. She took slow steps into the space and looked at William. "When did you have time to do this? I was with you the whole time!" She asked, surprised as she looked at the setting. It wasn't anything extravagant, just some blankets, candles to light up the place and some beers."I know i'm sad and all but i'm not planning on jumping," she teased as she walked to the edge and just looked at the beautiful city lights. The scene was peaceful and that was something she really needed. "Beer?" William asked softly, his deep voice pulling Ava from whatever trance she was in."God. Yes please," Ava replied with a small smile. William grabbed two beers from the basket and walked over to where Ava stood. He opened one and handed it to her. "There you go-" he uttered and when she grabbed it, he opened his own."Thank you.." Ava mumbled quietly. "For what?" Willia
"You"Ava didn't expect to see William standing before her. Not here at least. She watched as his mouth, his perfect mouth curved into a smile. "Are you alright?" He asked and Ava only shook her head. "Are you sure? You're not hurt?" He asked again and Ava confirmed."But you might be-" Ava said, hinting at his back. William only shrugged and tilted his head to look at her. "Why is it that i only meet you when you're in some kind of trouble?" He asked and Ava found herself smiling when she realized he was just teasing her. "I don't know. Maybe because i have my own guardian angel, ready to help. Or is it a knight in shining armour?" She asked while her eyes danced with mischief."Well, let me show you what a true knight can do," he said and winked at her. Ava's breath got caught in the back of her throat. As quick as William's smile appeared, it disappeared just as quickly as he turned to the direction the glass came from. "I did not bring my date here for her to get escorted by th
Ava noticed the jacket on her passenger seat after she had parked her car. It was just as she had placed it and she sighed softly. How could she not have noticed and returned it to the owner. As much as she wanted to go to the party, she contemplated going back to return it. Then again, going back didn't guarantee he would still be there waiting. She sighed again and laid her head back against the headrest of her car seat. When her phone started buzzing, she moved the jacket a bit so she could grab her purse. It was Laura. Ava tilted the rearview mirror just to make sure she looked decent enough before she got out of the car. She locked it behind her and answered Laura's call. "I'm here. I just parked my car," Ava said first thing because she knew why Laura had called. "Good. Brandon and that backstabbing bitch are already here," Laura whispered frustratedly into the call. Ava hummed into the phone, hung up and made her way into the hotel. She had an invitation, the one that origin

She had arrived earlier than Ava but now that she was there, she couldn't wait to leave. "Grace us with their presence? How pathetic-" she muttered softly. Some of the people gathered around her, turned to look at her. She rolled her eyes.Ava laughed from the other side of the line. At Ava's laugh, Laura smiled. It was the first time she had heard Ava laugh heartily."How long till you get here? I'm bored," Laura whined
A week had gone by since Ava had returned. She had gone back to her family, the last people she thought would take her back after her defiance. Nobody had said anything though and Ava felt as if that was punishment enough. With Laura and Anthony's help, she was able to piece the bits she couldn't understand. As soon as she was able to, the first thing she wanted was to have the police go after Brandon and Mia. She wanted them to pay but deep down, she knew she didn't have enough to have them permanently locked up. Besides, Brandon held her company in the palm of his hands. Provoking him, might only flash the little of her business that was left down the drain. It needed patience. She needed to be patient if she wanted to make them both pay.Ava was currently out on the parlour of the Smith’s family residence when her phone rang. She didn't need to wonder who it was. Only Laura and Anthony had been calling him frequently. “Hello?” Ava said as soon as she answered the phone.“Ava, are
