Mia stirred in her sleep slightly before she slowly opened her eyes. When the door bell sound grew urgent, she rubbed her eyes slowly and pushed the cover off of her body. She climbed down the king sized bed, grabbing the silk robe from the edge of the bed and put it on.

When she got to the door, she checked the peephole and when she saw Brandon standing outside, she quickly opened the door and let him in.

" Brady. Why are you back? I thought you went home-" she asked as soon as he walked in and she locked the door behind him.

Brandon didn't say a word. He went straight to the little bar by the staircase and poured himself a drink. "Brandon?" Mia called him again, this time, more worried because of how Brandon looked.

When he went to pour another drink, Mia grabbed the bottle and placed it down. " Can you talk to me first? What's going on?" Mia asked once again then reached out to gently touch Brandon's arm.

"Ava agreed to divorce me-" he started to say and Mia broke into a pleased smile. " And? Isn't that a good thing? We both wanted this? right?" Mia asked but the look on Brandon's face melted her smile. She really hoped he wasn't backing out. She had invested so much into making sure she would have Brandon all to himself.

"There's a prenup... I'm not getting anything from the divorce Mia. She's also planning on filing for custody" Brandon filled Mia on everything that had happened and this time, Mia used his glass to pour herself a drink.

"Prenup? What prenup?" She asked but immediately she asked, it clicked and she looked at Brandon. "I'm sorry, i should've turned every rock and made sure everything would go smoothly before tonight..." he said softly and pulled Mia in his arms. He hugged her tightly and kissed her head.

" I've slaved myself working for Ava for seven years now. Brad, we can't leave without anything" Mia whispered softly and Brandon hummed in agreement.

"You don't need to worry about it okay? let's get you back to bed" He assured her, pulled back away from the hug and carried her in his arms bridal style. While walking her back to her room, Brad kept reassuring her that everything would be alright. He tucked her in bed and changed for bed too but most of the night, he really couldn't bring himself to sleep.

The next morning though, Brandon had his lawyer meet with him and Mia in his office. He was hopeful that he would be able to get something out of the divorce. Ava's company was worth millions of dollars after all. After more than 9 years together, he felt entitled to atleast half of what she had. He was there for her after all.

"Good morning Mr Thompson" Frederick Brooks, Mia's brother who was also a lawyer said as soon as he was allowed in Brandon's office the next day. He walked over to his sister and kissed her cheek before he sat down.

"Morning Fred. I'm so glad you could make it on such a short notice" Brandon said softly. He asked his secretary to get them some coffee before he proceeded to inquire about the prenup. Brandon knew how it worked, he was just trying to find a loophole at the moment.

"Be frank with me Fred. Is there a way around it?" Brandon asked and the look his lawyer had killed the last hope he had.

" The agreement came from your side of the family. It's an important factor and most of the terms, something you approved of yourself. It's not going to be easy Brandon, especially since you're the one that broke it" Fred looked at Brandon before his eyes moved to Mia.

" However..." he trailed off softly " the prenup is effective only if the terms are broken. Cheating. It's only when one of the parties is unfaithful like in your case. I don't think this is the right moment to file for divorce. My honest advice, fix your marriage first. Find a way to get Mrs Thompson back and from there, we will know what to do next"

"Freddie!" Mia called her brother's name in frustration. She knew her brother knew about them. Knew how long she had been waiting for this opportunity.

"That's going to be a problem. You don't know Ava. Once she makes up her mind... she will never take me back. Not in the near future" Brandon said and grabbed Mia's hand to keep her from getting agitated. " That's not an option Fred"

"That's as far as i can help you legally" Fred said as he started putting his paperwork back in his bag. " Legally?" Brandon asked, curiosity getting the better of him. "What do you mean?"

" He means there's a way baby-" Mia said after passing a secret glance with her brother. " There's a way for us to have everything. The whole company, the house, the cars and of course your kids"

"How?" Brandon asked, this time, while facing Mia.

" We get rid of her. We kill Ava"

A silver light cut through the curtains, warming the edge of the bed. The serenity of quiet was gone with sounds of the city's traffic blaring in her ears. Ava groaned softly and rolled over on the bed. With her face pressed down against the pillow, an unfamiliar scent hit her nostrils and she blinked as she started to open her eyes. This didn't smell like her bed or looked in the slightest like her room. Her head throbbed, a bugging reminder of the beer she had gobbled down the previous night. She sat up in bed and held her head in her arms, groaning again softly. She didn't remember at first how she had gotten in this situation but after a moment, she raised her head, her eyes wide open as she stared into nothingness. "Fuck!" She exclaimed softly as flashes of the previous night came back to her. The disaster engagement party. The humiliation that almost worked and William. The help, the rescue and the drunken confession. She had made a fool out of herself in front of a stranger. A

Rooftop. Ava looked at William as soon as the door opened and before her eyes was the most beautiful scene she had seen in a long time. She took slow steps into the space and looked at William. "When did you have time to do this? I was with you the whole time!" She asked, surprised as she looked at the setting. It wasn't anything extravagant, just some blankets, candles to light up the place and some beers."I know i'm sad and all but i'm not planning on jumping," she teased as she walked to the edge and just looked at the beautiful city lights. The scene was peaceful and that was something she really needed. "Beer?" William asked softly, his deep voice pulling Ava from whatever trance she was in."God. Yes please," Ava replied with a small smile. William grabbed two beers from the basket and walked over to where Ava stood. He opened one and handed it to her. "There you go-" he uttered and when she grabbed it, he opened his own."Thank you.." Ava mumbled quietly. "For what?" Willia

"You"Ava didn't expect to see William standing before her. Not here at least. She watched as his mouth, his perfect mouth curved into a smile. "Are you alright?" He asked and Ava only shook her head. "Are you sure? You're not hurt?" He asked again and Ava confirmed."But you might be-" Ava said, hinting at his back. William only shrugged and tilted his head to look at her. "Why is it that i only meet you when you're in some kind of trouble?" He asked and Ava found herself smiling when she realized he was just teasing her. "I don't know. Maybe because i have my own guardian angel, ready to help. Or is it a knight in shining armour?" She asked while her eyes danced with mischief."Well, let me show you what a true knight can do," he said and winked at her. Ava's breath got caught in the back of her throat. As quick as William's smile appeared, it disappeared just as quickly as he turned to the direction the glass came from. "I did not bring my date here for her to get escorted by th

Ava noticed the jacket on her passenger seat after she had parked her car. It was just as she had placed it and she sighed softly. How could she not have noticed and returned it to the owner. As much as she wanted to go to the party, she contemplated going back to return it. Then again, going back didn't guarantee he would still be there waiting. She sighed again and laid her head back against the headrest of her car seat. When her phone started buzzing, she moved the jacket a bit so she could grab her purse. It was Laura. Ava tilted the rearview mirror just to make sure she looked decent enough before she got out of the car. She locked it behind her and answered Laura's call. "I'm here. I just parked my car," Ava said first thing because she knew why Laura had called. "Good. Brandon and that backstabbing bitch are already here," Laura whispered frustratedly into the call. Ava hummed into the phone, hung up and made her way into the hotel. She had an invitation, the one that origin

She had arrived earlier than Ava but now that she was there, she couldn't wait to leave. "Grace us with their presence? How pathetic-" she muttered softly. Some of the people gathered around her, turned to look at her. She rolled her eyes.Ava laughed from the other side of the line. At Ava's laugh, Laura smiled. It was the first time she had heard Ava laugh heartily."How long till you get here? I'm bored," Laura whined

A week had gone by since Ava had returned. She had gone back to her family, the last people she thought would take her back after her defiance. Nobody had said anything though and Ava felt as if that was punishment enough. With Laura and Anthony's help, she was able to piece the bits she couldn't understand. As soon as she was able to, the first thing she wanted was to have the police go after Brandon and Mia. She wanted them to pay but deep down, she knew she didn't have enough to have them permanently locked up. Besides, Brandon held her company in the palm of his hands. Provoking him, might only flash the little of her business that was left down the drain. It needed patience. She needed to be patient if she wanted to make them both pay.Ava was currently out on the parlour of the Smith’s family residence when her phone rang. She didn't need to wonder who it was. Only Laura and Anthony had been calling him frequently. “Hello?” Ava said as soon as she answered the phone.“Ava, are
