Daniel Crusher had been a widower for 5 years. His wife had died from a heart condition shortly after giving birth to their youngest son. She left him alone with 3 kids and a deep sadness in a house that suddenly felt too big.
He had no intentions of remarrying, even though he was one of the most eligible bachelors and was known to have had a few brief relationships. He could raise his children alone, or at least that's what he thought.
And then his younger brother comes along, backs him into a corner with a completely unthinkable proposal. When he found out why, he exploded in fury.
"How can you be so irresponsible?!"
But Daniel couldn't leave his brother and Laura to their fate. Much less abandon the little one on the way. Behind the ice shield he'd built around himself, there was still a warm-hearted man.
"Who is she?" he had asked.
And again, he hit the roof when Harry told him about Deanna.
"But if she goes to university with you, that means... she's your age?"
"Yes, she's 25 like Laura and me."
"Harry, are you insane? I'm 15 years older than her."
"She's the only one who might agree to this, Daniel. I don't know anyone else who would do it."
Not only did he have to marry a woman he didn't know, but she was 15 years younger than him. A college student he'd never seen in his life. This would be a disaster.
"Mom's going to have a heart attack, you know that."
"You can handle her, you've always gotten your way when you want something, even when our parents oppose it."
"This is different, Harry. You think they'll accept me suddenly marrying a younger woman, who nobody knows and who studies with you?"
"At least you can tell them I introduced you."
Daniel wouldn't have too much trouble imposing his will, but the story had to be believable. She was a very young woman for him and that wasn't his style. His brother was really putting him in a tight spot - there were too many things to justify.
He'd only officially dated two women in all these years, and only because of his mother's insistence that his children needed a mother figure. One of them hadn't had a problem with his three kids, but Daniel didn't like her. The other he didn't like either, but she made it easy because she had no intention of becoming anyone's mother. The rest of the few women were just casual or fleeting things of no importance.
"I need to meet her at least. Have you talked to her?"
"Not yet, I will this afternoon. I'm sure she'll help us. Thank you, brother, thank you."
"You better become an exemplary father and start getting your act together."
"Of course I will, Laura and our baby deserve nothing but the best."
"I'm glad to hear that."
Things had been very different for him and his late wife. Although they married young, like Harry and Laura, Daniel had already finished his studies and started working in the family business.
He'd been very responsible and dedicated since childhood. While other kids his age played sports or games, he learned languages. While his classmates traveled around the world, he took math and statistics classes. He had incredible discipline for someone so young.
He always behaved like a gentleman, was austere and conservative, and followed family traditions to the letter. Thanks to that, his parents rarely forbade him anything, and he was able to marry his high school sweetheart at a young age.
They were a happy family; his wife balanced Daniel's somewhat cold and strict character. They harmonized perfectly, were an adorable couple. Then came the children and with them more happiness. That's why when Emily died, his whole world collapsed.
Daniel had no choice but to focus on his three children and his work; he couldn't fall apart. Now he was the only pillar left standing.
His sister helped with the kids the first year. But as with everything in his life, Daniel proved capable of being a good single father. Maybe a bit strict and inflexible in some ways, but very loving.
"As soon as I talk to Deanna, I'll let you know."
"Why are you so sure she'll accept?"
"Because it's Deanna."
"And what's that supposed to mean?"
"That's just how she is, she doesn't hesitate to support you or be there when you need her. She's a great friend."
"I see..."
"Just... could you try to be less... you?"
"What are you talking about?"
"You know, less... cold and serious. She's a great woman, Daniel, but you'll scare her off with your expressions."
"That's ridiculous, Harry."
In reality, he was quite the gentleman, but he had a tendency to be a bit... rude sometimes, without realizing it. It was simply his way of being. They'd given him a nickname that no one dared say in his presence: "Ice Face Crusher." And he had a reputation in business for being ruthless and rigid. He was always serious, rarely smiled, and tended to say what he thought regardless of how it might be received.
This had to work somehow, they were running out of time. Harry arranged a meeting for all four of them at his apartment to finalize the details and come up with a plausible story. Now that his friend was also on board, if he crossed his fingers and had enough faith, they might still have a chance.
"Does she know about the kids?"
"Yes, I mentioned them more than once... I think. Anyway, she won't have problems with that."
"We'll need to set rules regarding the children too."
None of them had any idea of all that their little "theatrical production" would bring about, or how it would affect the lives of "Mighty Dean" and "Ice Face." But the wheels were already in motion, the most complicated part would be getting both parents to accept the new daughter-in-law without too many questions.
That night, Deanna got ready as best she could. She put on a black dress and flat but somewhat elegant shoes. She didn't have many clothes that would make a good impression, but at least she had to try to get Daniel to like her. She was a bit nervous, but she drew out all her optimism from within and left for Harry's apartment.
For his part, Daniel also chose to wear something not too elegant, a bit conservative, but that wouldn't give away his age too much. Unconsciously, he was trying to adjust to his new "partner." He felt a bit... pressured by the fact that she was so young; maybe she'd see him as an old man and wouldn't want to continue.
What had Harry meant about being less himself? He didn't see anything wrong with how he was. He was a successful man with well-educated children and was highly respected in his social circle. His image was impeccable, serious, and admired by many. He was in a good position and was an excellent catch for any woman. Harry was very wrong... right?
Before leaving, he stopped by little Jonathan's room, who was already asleep. He picked up some toys from the floor and stood watching him for a few minutes. He thought about how Harry's child would have both parents together, while Jonathan had already forgotten his mother's face and could barely communicate with him. He didn't know what else to do for his son.
The world seems to be moving at an astonishing speed, never stopping; it draws us into its atmosphere and accelerates our lives. We can lose a lot in the process, such as finding that love that becomes a safe haven where the heart can beat without fear and that awakens a deep longing for connection and belonging. Some say that the search begins with self-discovery, a pilgrimage into our inner selves, accepting the shadows we carry and allowing them to intertwine with our dreams for the future. Others believe it is a fortuitous event destined to happen. Does anyone know for sure? What we do know is that when we finally find it, it feels like a new dawn illuminating the sky of our existence, painting the canvas of our life with warm, vibrant colors. It is an embrace that envelops us in its warmth, a whisper that makes us feel alive, a heartbeat that reminds us that we are not alone. It is the miracle of finding a piece of ourselves in the heart of another.Everyth
The Ambassador stretched, shook off his sleep, and opened his eyes. The honeymoon was over, the months had passed. It was time. The technical team began setting up the stage, adjusting each piece of the set according to the plans designed by Marcus, with suggestions from Leonard. Lighting is key, and the technicians spend hours programming the lights, creating the effects needed for each scene, and making sure everything is synchronized with the music; that everything is perfect. The anthill was beginning to feel like home. The costume designer and her assistants adjusted the costumes, which had been carefully designed and tailored to suit the movements and demands of each performance. The makeup artists and hairdressers gathered their materials and arranged each one with precision. In the orchestra pit, the musicians tuned their instruments, adjusting the acoustics of the space, looking for the most comfortable position and the correct distances, while t
Leonard couldn't hold back, took Marcus aside in a corner of the salon, and told him what Deanna had planned.“This time, if you call Sacha, I'll kill you,” Marcus threatened.“She doesn't want to travel, she wants to sing again, and she wants to do it here.”“God! I've been waiting for this for so long.”“I know, but we have to be careful. I know Crusher will move whatever needs to be moved and act as a babysitter, but just in case, find out how we can set up part of the theater for the girls. I'll pay for it.”“Of course you'll pay for it. I'll do anything to see her shine on my stage again.”The happiness of being married to the woman he loved and the anticipation of hearing the applause for his daughter drove him crazy. He was unrestrained. He hugged Susan whenever he could and kissed her in front of everyone, even Camila. And while the children entertained themselves in the section reserved for them, the adults enjoyed the evenin
Harry was also enjoying his new life more and more. Emma was growing up to look more and more like Laura, but her drive, energy, and sweetness were all her own. Despite those difficult early years, the girl had incredible resilience and a childish infatuation with her godfather. At first, the little twins had seemed very cute, like dolls. But as he watched Daniel hold them, kiss them, and carry them, she didn't like them so much anymore. She had often reacted with tantrums and uncontrollable crying when she felt that her godfather wasn't paying her the same attention.“She doesn't even do this to me with Ryan!” Harry said, offended.“Daniel is his first love, Harry. That doesn't mean she doesn't love you,“ Amanda explained.“I'm more handsome,” Daniel added, adding fuel to the fire.“Of course you're not! You're older!” Harry replied.“I'm still more handsome than you.”Danie
Ethan Crusher approached her slowly, looking at her first from the doorway as he rocked his little sister and sang her to sleep. Deanna looked up and saw his curious, bright gaze, which he had always had. A young gentleman; and he was so big now.Encouraged by her smile, he entered. To him, she wasn't his mother, as she was to Jonathan; she was his friend. Emily was always present in his memory and in his heart. And from her, he had inherited his eyes and smile, his hair and elegant manners. His build and stern expression were Daniel's.“How are they?” he asked in a whisper.“They're fine...”“And you?”“I'm fine too.”He sat down nearby, taking one of the pink bunnies in his hands.“Tell me what's wrong,” Deanna said.“I have doubts... about college.”“What's wrong?”“I'll have to go far away... It's exciting, but it also scares me a little. I don't want to disappoint Dad.”“I doubt you could do anything to disappoint him. You're his pride and joy.”“Yes, and that weighs on me a litt
Returning home with her daughters presented another challenge for Deanna. If it weren't for Daniel's experience, she would surely have lost her mind.“I don't understand why you have so many doubts, honey.”“I want to do it right.”“And you will, you always do. I understand that it's natural for women to take care of babies... Although I don't know how it works,” he said, leaning over one of the girls' cribs.“You're not helping, Leonard.”“But I can learn, and if I can, so can you. Besides, that idiot knows a lot more than we do.”Deanna looked at her father for a moment, the look of wonder on his face.“It looks like you've never seen a baby before,” she said.“I have, but not this pretty. It's... amazing.”“Have you thought about having children with Susan?”“Huh? At my age? No... Susan told me she doesn't want to have children, and I respect that... To be honest, I don't know if I'd be a good father... I don't know if I'll be a good husband.”“What if she changes her mind one day?
As the hours passed, it became more difficult. She couldn't stand, she couldn't sit, she couldn't lie down. Her face went from a smile to a grimace of pain; Daniel held her, caressed her, massaged her, did everything he could, but he knew it was all up to Deanna.Until the pain became unbearable; the doctor did one last check and announced that they were ready to begin.“I want my mommy!” she cried to Daniel. She looked like a frightened little girl, and of course, Daniel looked over and motioned for Philippa to come in. She took her hand, caressing her face and offering words of encouragement.“Here comes the first one, Deanna, push...” the doctor urged her.Daniel held her other hand, amazed to say the least. His wife's face was contorted and she was panting heavily. They exchanged glances, he kissed her forehead; the effort was so great that tears began to fall from Deanna's eyes.“You're wonderful, you're doing great... I love you,” he said, half scared. And then she heard it: her
Susan waited for them in Leonard's car. It was Ethan's last year of high school, and he was about to start college. When they saw her standing there, they were surprised.“Auntie, how are you?“ Naomi greeted her.“Hello, kids...”“What are you doing here?” Ethan asked.“I came to pick you up because Daniel and Deanna are at the hospital. Your sisters are about to be born.”Naomi screamed uncontrollably! She practically dragged everyone to the car.“Calm down, Naomi, there's still time. Don't get nervous,” Susan tried to calm her down.“My sisters are coming! I want to get there!”For some reason, of the three siblings, she was the most anxious. She was finally going to have sisters. Yes, they would be a few years older, but she wouldn't be alone. Throughout the pregnancy, she had spent a small fortune on little dresses, hair ribbons, tiny shoes, and everything else in duplicate. She was overwhelmed with excitement.Ethan, on the other hand, didn't quite know how to feel. He was happy
The day had arrived; the day everyone had been waiting for. Her obstetrician had warned her that multiple pregnancies often resulted in delivery before 37 weeks; that if it happened, she shouldn't panic, even if the girls were born a little premature, as this was to be expected. And Deanna felt it, like a premonition, that morning. Something inside her was telling her, her body was screaming at her. But she told Daniel to take the children to school as usual and go to work, that she felt fine and it was probably just another discomfort. She stayed in bed; she had a strange, uncomfortable feeling in her chest.During those last few weeks, she rarely got out of bed, it was very difficult for her, and her husband insisted that she stay calm, that he would take care of everything and that she should rest. She took advantage of the time to finish reading that pile of books she always left half-read, and that's what she was doing when she felt moisture wetting the sheets. She found a large
