Chapter Six

Selena looked from the cab to Jaxon, wondering how he managed to always pull up with a cab without even signaling for one.

The cab driver attempted to leave his seat to come outside, but Jaxon waved him off to remain inside.

He opened the door to the back seat himself, bowed his head slightly while holding the car door, and keeping his palm in the manner professional chauffeurs would.

If he wanted to impress Serena, he was wrong because she had suspicion written all over her face, as she reluctantly entered the cab.

Her dress was quite short, so when Jaxon joined her inside the cab, she attempted to drag it down. He saw what she did and smiled, he didn't want her to see it, so he faced the other way.

"I don't trust you." Serena was the first to speak. She glared at him.

Jaxon looked straight ahead, he didn't even turn to look at her, yet she could see the mischievous smile he gave.

Serena had to admit as she watched him from the side. He was so cute, which even annoyed her more.

"Yet, you somehow came out willfully, dressed up like you have some lunch date." He said it in such a relaxing manner, and for emphasis, he laid back into his seat and stretched his legs, so that pressed into the driver's seat. He had long legs.

Serena glanced down at her outfit and for the first time, she took note of his outfit. He was wearing an orange flannel over a white vest and grey sweatpants.

Apart from her short daisy print dress, she just had white sneakers for footwear, and so did he.

She'd put in extra effort if she were on an important date. He only said it to annoy her probably.

"Where are we going? '' Serena let it slide and focused on their reason for being there. They were still parked by the side of the road.

"That's more like it." Jaxon sat up and began to fumble in his pocket for something.

"You know what…I can just leave if you want. I don't think this was a good idea. Yesterday was nice, thank you, but I think that's it." Serena said as she fumbled with her purse and held the door handle, a feeble attempt to leave.

"Oh shit." Jaxon's head fell in his hands, but to her surprise, he leaned over to her side and locked the door.

With his position, she could see how the roots of his brown hair ran around his scalp in spirals. She wasn't prepared for when he turned to face her, his hand still on the car lock.

"I'm sorry." This time, he meant it. She could feel it, and his brown eyes stared into her hers, and down to her soul. He remained the way he was, she didn't feel comfortable. He wasn't touching her, but his unbuttoned flannel tickled her bare lap and she tried her best to stay put.

"Alright," she said and he gave her a small smile, and sat down properly. " But I have to know where we are going, let me in on what's happening, I don't like to be bossed around."

Jaxon's brows furrowed together, "bossed? Is that how you feel about me offering to show you around the city?"

"I can do that on my own, I'm an adult." Serena rolled her eyes.

Jaxon smirked, he looked like he wanted to say something but changed his mind and decided to say, "I've got tickets to a summer carnival happening around here. Thought it would be fun to go."

Serena shrugged, "Alright, let's start with that." She wondered why she used 'start' like she had her day planned out with him taking her to different places.

The cab driver started the car at once. She remembered the initial question that had been on her mind.

"Do you work with the cabs or something?" She watched him turn to face her with a slight frown. "I mean, who just has a cab show up around without even calling them?"

"You could say, that's how familiar I am with the environment." He winked at her.

Why did he wink at her? She thought that was a cheap way of flirting.

"That's some stupid excuse right there." She said

"What?" Jaxon seemed offended.

"I said what I said."

"I already have him waiting around, I just need to signal him to come or leave."

Serena wondered if the driver was offended by Jaxon's choice of words, but what could she say, he was only doing his job.

The rest of the drive was quiet, Serena thought of breaking it, but when she looked away from her window and glanced at Jaxon, he didn't seem like he wanted to be disturbed. His eyes were closed, but she knew he wasn't sleeping.

"We're here" the driver announced as he parked a few meters from the huge gate of a park. As expected, the area was busy with people and loud music.

Serena could see the colourful tents as she got out of the car, she looked around and saw the Ferris wheel. A huge lump formed in her throat.

"Scared of heights?" Jaxon asked as he stood in front of her. He had his hand in the pocket of his sweatpants, his hair danced around with the afternoon breeze.

"I've been on a Ferris wheel way too many times, I can't count." Serena moved aside, so he didn't tower above her.

Some girls passed them and giggled. She knew they were talking about Jaxon. He was giving off this hot boy appearance, a lot of women would kill to be by his side…like her.

For a moment, she was glad she was the one with the "hot guy" women would die for, but she knew that came with a lot of trouble for most women, and Jaxon looked like he was double trouble.

"If you say so." Jaxon shrugged and took her hand, as they walked into the park. It made Serena's heart skip, she loved that he was holding her, but why did she feel so nervous?
