CHAPTER 21

The guard passed close enough that Elara felt the brush of his sleeve before she registered the folded paper pressed into her palm.

He didn't stop.

Didn't look at her.

He simply kept walking, his boots striking evenly against the stone as though nothing had happened.

Elara closed her fist around the note and continued sweeping.

She waited until the corridor emptied before unfolding it, keeping her back toward the nearest doorway.

Three words were scrawled across the paper.

You knew

  • ACCEPT ME OH KINGDOM    Signs of Stirring

Chapter 214 "A well doesn't just stop," Torin said."This one did."The messenger from Dunmere's border post was still breathing hard."Dry by morning, my lord. The bucket came up with dust on the rope.""Any damage to the stonework?" Yssa asked, already writing."None. And the cattle won't graze the eastern pasture. They stand at the fence and stare at it."Elara frowned."Stare at what?""Nothing, Your Highness. That's what the herders keep saying."A second runner shouldered through the doorway before anyone could answer."Report from the Marrow Hills. Birds have left the whole eastern slope. The shepherds say it's too quiet.""Quiet," Kael repeated."Like holding your breath, one man said.""Two territories," Torin muttered. "A dry well in one, frightened animals in the other.""Could be unrelated," Elara said slowly. "A dry spell, a predator in the hills. We should send scouts to investigate.""A third," said a voice from the doorway. The runner was young and pale."Harrow Ford

  • ACCEPT ME OH KINGDOM    The Purpose Beyond Choice

Chapter 213 "Elara?"She was already walking.Behind her, the council chamber had gone silent, and Yssa's last words still hung in the air like smoke.Preserved. Your bloodline was preserved."Elara, wait.""I'm fine, Kael.""You're walking like you're trying to outrun your own shadow."She stopped at the end of the corridor. She didn't turn around."I need to be alone."Silence.She felt him there, steady as ever, and hated how much she wanted to lean into it."All right," Kael said at last. "I won't follow you inside.""Thank you.""But I'm not pretending I don't know which way you went."Her mouth twitched. It wasn't quite a smile."Of course you're not."She left him standing there. The east terrace was empty, just moonlight and cold stone. Elara gripped the railing until her knuckles ached.Preserved. Like grain in a cellar. Like a blade in a sheath. She didn't hear him approach, but she knew when he stopped beside her."That was a very short head start," she said."Eleven minut

  • ACCEPT ME OH KINGDOM    Yssa Deep Research

Chapter 212 "That date is wrong," Yssa said."It's a copying error." Archivist Bram didn't look up from his own table. "Scribes miscounted all the time.""Then they miscounted the same way twice."She tapped the brittle scrap beneath her lamp, then the second one beside it."This one is from the First Moon Queen's first decade. This one cites it. And the citation names a boundary that was already old when she was crowned."Bram finally looked up."Old how?""Old enough that she calls it the ancestors' work. Her ancestors, Bram. The line before the line.""The accepted history says there was no line before.""The accepted history also says the anchors belonged to the Hollow Court."Bram set down his pen."Elara's Warden told you that?""He told me nothing. I'm reading what he couldn't."She slid the scraps toward him."If this date holds, the thing it describes is older than the Court's earliest surviving record. I'm not calling it a copying error until I've checked every fragment in

  • ACCEPT ME OH KINGDOM    Something Stirring

Chapter 211 "You didn't sleep," Elara said."No."The former Hollow Warden stood at the window of the small council room, the fragment of dark stone resting on the table behind him. Gray light caught the thin silver line across its face.Dawn had barely broken, and the message that had brought them here had been four words long:Come now. Come quietly.Kael closed the door."What changed since yesterday?""My certainty."The Warden turned. His eyes were red-rimmed."I spent the night examining every record I carried out of the Hollow archives. I wanted to prove myself wrong.""And?" Elara asked."I couldn't."She took a seat."Then tell us plainly.""The anchors were neutralized. That part is real. The Court's hold over them is broken."He drew a breath."But I no longer believe they were only the Court's tools.""Yesterday you called them locks," Kael said."Locks need something to hold. I think the anchors were a second layer of containment, built over something that already existe

  • ACCEPT ME OH KINGDOM    A Kingdom At Peace

Chapter 210 "Third row, Corporal. The Ashveil families sit with the Silver Guard widows.""Yes, Lady Evelyne. Beside the Silver Guard, not behind them.""Beside." Evelyne checked her list. "Good. Someone told me last night that Ashveil would rather stand.""They did say that, my lady. Then Captain Dorn walked over and stood with them."Evelyne's mouth twitched."Of course she did."Behind her, an old woman in Ashveil grey knelt at the memorial wall and pressed a carved wooden wolf against the stone.A Silver Moon soldier with one arm in a sling stopped beside her. He said nothing. He simply set a second token next to hers and remained there."Torin."A broad Ashveil commander clapped him on the shoulder."Your left flank at the culvert. I never thanked you.""Harn, you whistled. I just stayed out of the way.""Both true," Harn said gravely. "Drink with me after?""If Dorn buys.""Dorn never buys.""Then we're drinking terribly."Harn laughed. For a moment, Torin looked almost uncomfo

  • ACCEPT ME OH KINGDOM    A Moment Of Reflection

Chapter 209 "Peace with Ashveil is signed, Father."Elara's voice sounded smaller out here than it ever did in the council chamber. The wind moved through the cemetery grass, and the stone in front of her remained silent."Ren Katal's alliance too. The council rewrote my clause, and they were right to."She almost laughed."You would have liked Councilor Marrow. He argues like you did."She crouched and brushed a dead leaf from the base of the stone.Alaric Veyne, Beta Commander of Silver Moon. The honors had been carved in deep, clean letters. The stonemason had clearly taken care with every line."I told them I wanted to come alone."She straightened her cloak."Kael sent the guards home without being asked. Torin pretended he hadn't noticed me leaving. Yssa packed me bread and told me not to talk to a gravestone on an empty stomach."The wind answered with nothing."I'm fine. Everything's fine."She swallowed."That's not why I came."She stood very still."Would you be proud of
