NICHOLAS

"Okay, make the necessary corrections and submit the final paperwork in two days!" I was in a meeting with five of my employees. They all responded 'yes sir' and the meeting ended there. I was tired and I craved soda. Mama always nagged me, telling me it was bad for my health. Well, I didn't take it regularly. It gave me the needed energy boost so I took it once in a while, like today.

"An update from your home, sir," Vivian walked into my office. Before I replied, she continued, "It's from Ken. Apparently, May left the mansion with her bodyguard, Abby. He wasn't taken along."

"Do you mean you don't know the current location of my wife?" I asked instantly.

"We do," Vivian replied. "There is a tracking device in the car they took so Ken already tracked it. We have confirmed that May and Abby are currently in Greenfield hospital. I have a spy there so I am currently finding out the purpose for the visit."

"Be quick about it!" I replied. "Also, you need to something for me. I wish to get May a gift. Probably a beautiful necklace."

"I will check the department store and have them send samples to you!" Vivian replied begrudgingly. I could tell from her voice. However, I could care less.

"You can pick the necklace. You are a woman too so pick what you'd like if I gifted it to you," I replied calmly.

"Is it for me?" Vivian asked.

"Of course not! It's for my wife. Don't tell me you plan to make an issue out of picking one gift for my wife. Is that a problem?" I asked. I stood up and began to pack my things in my briefcase. I was leaving work earlier than usual.

"I understand, sir," Vivian bowed and turned to leave.

"Also..." I caught her attention. "Make sure there is a tracking device in the necklace. You know the professionals, don't you?"

Vivian looked surprised, "I will get it done, don't worry."

Vivian bowed and left the room. I finished picking the items I needed and placing them in my briefcase. I walked to the garage where my car was parked by myself. It was time to go home.

**

I thought I would have to wait for May's arrival but ironically, she got home before I did. I was welcomed by Mama and when I wanted to go into our room, Mama held my hand and pulled me aside.

"I think May is pissed off right now. She looked so angry when she entered her room. I think you should be careful around her..." Mama muttered.

"Why should I be careful?" I muttered. I wasn't going to be bothered. "Does she plan to hurt me or what? It's not as if I was the one who pissed her off."

"Just be careful, please. Now isn't the time to hurt her," Mama told me. I nodded halfheartedly and entered the room. May was lying on the bed with her head buried in the below.

"I said I didn't want lunch!" She shouted upon hearing the door shriek. She must have thought I was a maid.

"I didn't bring lunch," I replied ordinarily. May almost jumped out of her skin when she heard my voice. She sat up immediately.

"It was you?" She muttered.

"Mama told me you were pissed. Tell me what happened," I told her. It seemed the many lessons I had gone through about communication weren't in vain. Rather than ask if she wanted to talk about it, I ordered instead.

May must have been convinced that I was someone she could talk to. She told me everything that had happened and I listened attentively. She didn't keep anything from me nor did she filter her emotions. It was the first time I was seeing her pour out her frustrations in such a raw manner. When she got to how Charles had whispered such an impudent statement, I found myself clenching my fists unconsciously. Maybe it would be hard to believe that I felt angrier than May. Let's just say I felt equally angry.

All I did was give May a listening ear. After she was done, I didn't tell her everything would be fine or motivate her in whatever sense. I simply excused myself and called my trump card. I didn't know his real name but he was Raymond in the business.

"First name is Charles. I don't know his fucking surname. He works at Greenfield hospital and he is the only doctor to Marcus Greenfield," I told Raymond over the phone.

"Orders, boss?" Raymond asked.

"Bring him over to the usual warehouse. He won't come with you peacefully," I cut the call immediately. That was my subtle way of asking Raymond to kidnap Charles. Raymond was good at what he does. He had several men under his command and all he did was obey my orders. He did all the dirty work and to be safe, I was the only one who knew about him. Even Vivian had no idea I had someone like Raymond working for me.

At dinner, I received Raymond's text. It was sent in code and when translated, it meant that the mission was successful. I left my meal and headed out.

"Where are you going?" May looked concerned.

"Go to bed early. Don't wait for me," That was my reply. I drove by myself that dark night and arrived at the warehouse in no time. The warehouse was not used for its usual activities. Instead, I used it for things like this. Raymond's men had beaten up Charles and the latter looked so weak by now.

"You've done a warmup," I turned to Raymond.

"Yes, boss. He is ready to answer your questions now," Raymond said with a smile on his face. I took a chair and sat near Charles who was tied to his own chair. His lips were bleeding and he had a small cut a few inches to his eye.

He raised his head, "You are Nicholas..."

"You know me?" I smiled. "That's great. You must know why you are here as well.”

May's POV There was something about Susan that I couldn't figure out. She didn't give me those deep, playful expressions of hers and it bothered me. However, I concluded that meeting with my stepmother would have caused it. She must have been so nervous. Mama came into the room, wearing a smile as usual. "The meal is ready, Miss. Shall I escort you?" Mama offered. "Don't worry, Mama," I replied. "I will take my friend by myself. You should go and rest for now." Mama turned towards Susan,"You are the best friend of the lady of the mansion. Please make sure to feel at home and enjoy your stay here." "It will be a short one, ma'am," Susan replied. "I will leave after lunch." "Why?" I touched Susan's shoulder lightly. "If you are here, just stay with me till evening. I will get the driver to take you home." "I'm sorry," Susan managed to smile. "I have some papers I need to finish working on. They are research papers and they need to be submitted soon." I nodded in accepta

Susan's POV I stared at Sherlyn. She had a smile on her face and it felt as if I was giving her exactly what she wanted. I had to stop being uneasy. If I continued like this, it would be the same as giving her hints about what I really wanted. "May is a good friend..." I began to say. "She won't treat me as a slave of hers. In fact, she treats no one like they are slaves. You shouldn't use that line." "I know you have big dreams," Sherlyn told me calmly. "You studied medicine and surgery for many years in the university. You started at our hospital as a resident for four years and now, you are a fellow. Next year, you are supposed to clinch the professor's position and be an official staff member. Life would get really rosy when that happens." "What about that?" I asked feigning ignorance. "I am sure you won't give up your dreams just to become a doctor nobody knows at your friend's house," Sherlyn continued. "May is known for being Nicholas's wife but do you think she will be sa

Sherlyn The hospital's chief executive officer was right in front of me. His name was Roberts and he has been in the position since the time of my husband. I was seated while he stood. He was a tall man with a beastly aura. "I deserve an explanation for what happened yesterday, don't I?" I asked him calmly. "I am sorry, ma'am," He replied. "Stop it!" I shouted angrily. "I need an explanation rather than an insincere apology. How on earth could the VIP room be accessed forcefully. Is that the kind of system we are building? Where is the hospital's pride as the best hospital in the country?" He said nothing. He must have thought this was his best option. However, it made me angrier. "Do you know why I didn't fire you even though you were fiercely loyal to my husband?" I asked him carefully. "I'm not sure..." He muttered. "However, I think it might be because I am good at my job." "Exactly," I replied with a smirk on my face. "I fired almost every executive that was loyal to Marc

MAY What was that incident? Was it related to Nicholas's nightmare? I turned towards Mama, searching for answers. However, she looked away. I touched her shoulder lightly and looked into her eyes. "I need to know the problem if I am going to help Nicholas," I told her carefully. "He slept well last night in my arms. However, that would work only when I'm there. If you want him to sleep peacefully, tell me the reason. I will help him." "I have no doubt you can help him," Mama muttered. "It's an old matter and only a few people know it. It happened when he was ten years old and he has been traumatized by it since then. He had to see a psychiatrist for a while but he continued to have nightmares every night. I get worried about him every now and then due to that reason." "What happened?" I asked curiously. "It was an accident!" Mama replied. "He went driving with his parents and they got into an accident. Only Nicholas survived and he blames himself for what happened. He thinks

MAY I knew exactly when he entered the room. I could tell he was being delicate so he wouldn't rouse me so I simply played along. I acted as if I was asleep. He went to shower and after, he literally crawled into bed with me. When it seemed as if he was asleep, I turned to look at him. He was particularly handsome when he was asleep. I turned to sleep only to hear him jump out of bed in a few minutes. I turned out of concern and by the time I did, he was sitting at a corner in the bed. It had only been fifteen minutes when he slept off. How could nightmares come already? "Do you have nightmares every night?" I asked as I touched his shoulder. He turned back to look at me and took a deep breath. "Go to bed," He told me. He stood up and walked to the door. I sat up quickly. "Where are you going?" I asked him. "I want to grab a bottle of water. Go to bed, May," He told me. "I have water here," I pointed at the table. "Drink that and join me in bed." Nicholas sighed. "Just go to b

NICHOLAS It was eerie and that was the exact impression I wanted to leave in Charles's heart. I could see him shaking out of fear. He was right to do that. "Please don't kill me..." He muttered with his voice quivering. "I won't tell anyone about this. I won't report to the police that you kidnapped me. I beg you. I will do whatever you want me to." "Is that so?" I laughed. "You have seen many movies, it seems. I haven't seen as many as you would have so I will ask you this. What happens to the victim when he sees his kidnapper's face?" "I promise I will tell nobody. Just spare my life!" He begged. I smiled and stood up from my chair. I walked behind him and slowly touched his shoulders. He was tied so he couldn't move but I could tell that he was out of breath. "I am not a kidnapper for ransom as you already know," I began. "You have the guts to whisper terrifying things into the ears of my wife and that's why you are here.""Te... Terrifying things?" He stammered. "You see, Ch
