MAY

Even though Abby looked confident, I was still concerned. One of the guards stepped forward and pushed her backwards.

"Leave here. I don't want to hurt you," The guard told her. Abby grabbed his right hand all of a sudden and twisted it, making him cry out in pain. She grabbed him and pushed him against the wall then punched him. The other two guards came running but Abby was prepared. She fought both at once, finishing it with a high kick. As the guards laid down writhing in pain, Abby opened the door like a champion she was.

"Thank you," I muttered. It was obvious that she was a good selection. Nicholas was right after all.

"I will stand by at the door. More of them might come soon so you have to be quick," Abby told me. I nodded and held Susan's hand as we both entered the room. My eyes skipped a beat when I set eyes on my father. I walked towards him slowly and he looked unconscious.

"What's happening?" I turned to Susan. She checked his vitals and shook her head. I already knew it was bad.

"He shouldn't be like this..." Susan muttered. "He was very sick, I know, but it wouldn't have progressed like this with treatment. Something is definitely wrong!"

"Stop beating around the bush!" I exclaimed and stared at my father again. "Tell me. What is wrong with him? He could talk to me the last find I visited. What's happening now?"

"I'm sorry to let you know but I believe his condition had worsened..." Susan told me. "If I am right, he is nearly brain dead."

"What!" I exclaimed, unable to believe my ears.

"Calm down, May..." Susan muttered, trying to get me under control. However, it was not in her hands anymore. I could go crazy any moment from now. I found myself a chair to sit in the hospital room and I began to take deep breaths. I had my unborn child to care for.

"But how? How could his condition worsen like this?" I asked. I was holding back my tears. "What will happen to my dad now?"

"He is in a vegetative state!" Susan pronounced. "I don't know what the hell Dr. Charles has been doing so far. He shouldn't be in this position."

It all made sense now. This must have been Sherlyn's plan all along. That must have been the reason she tried to stop everyone from seeing my father. I could hear noise outside and I peeped by opening the door a little. I could see Abby standing against a man. He had the white apparel of a doctor.

"You can't keep me outside! I need to see my patient!" He was shouting. I could tell he was Charles. I opened the door properly.

"Let him in, Abby," I ordered. "I was going to call for him anyway."

I looked into Charles's eyes. Seeing as he didn't avert my eyes, I concluded he was shamelessly bold. He entered the room confidently and walked over to my father. He was checking his condition.

"Mr. Charles, how about you explain how my father's health has deteriorated like this?" I asked calmly.

"Dr. Charles is what you meant to say!" He corrected me.

"I don't think that's important right now!" I replied firmly.

"Well, I do think that's important," He replied as he looked up to me. He maintained that gaze as he walked towards me as well. His presence was intimidating. "You shouldn't be here, May. You know that very well."

I laughed, "You know me?"

"Of course, I do. Everyone at the hospital does. You were the former heir, weren't you?" Charles asked. He was mocking me indirectly.

"Right!" I embraced it. "I am the current former heiress. Who knows what I will be tomorrow?"

"Who knows? Maybe something lower..." Charles mocked.

"You are in the same boat with Sherlyn..." I said with my fists clenched. "Your plan is to kill my father, you scum!"

"No, May. I am a doctor and I don't kill my patients. If I was hired by Sherlyn as you say to kill your father who is my patient, I see no reason why he would be alive till now..." Charles winked at me. "Please leave. By now, the security team would be heading towards this place."

"Now I want to watch them drag me out!" I said firmly. I sat down even more comfortably.

"Think of your bodyguard..." Charles muttered. "The security team coming have weapons. She will be badly beaten up no matter how skilled she is. Also, she might end up in the police cell for causing unrest in a public space like an hospital."

I clenched my fists. I hated to accept it but he was right.

"We should leave, May. We can come back next time," Susan urged me. I stood up and took one final look at my father. Charles came all of a sudden and blocked my path. He moved closer to me and whispered in my ears.

"Your father won't die soon. He will die slowly. Very slowly, I mean..." Charles whispered and gave an evil laughter. My first instinct was to grab his hair. I was so angry but before he could, he pointed at the corner. "There is a CCTV camera here. I had it installed secretly. I can just release tape. The headlines would probably be like, 'Billionaire's wife assaulting a common doctor'. It will do some damage to your husband."

I controlled myself. I had never felt so annoyed like this in a long time. I stormed out of the room in rage.

"What did he say to you?" Susan asked. I stopped walking and stared at her. I shouldn't take my anger out on her.

"I am leaving now. I will talk to you later," I told Susan. I walked out of the hospital with Abby right behind me. I had made up my mind already. I would see to it that Charles is punished even if it was the last thing I would do on Earth.

  • ACCIDENTAL SURROGATE FOR THE BILLIONAIRES   Chapter 30

May's POV There was something about Susan that I couldn't figure out. She didn't give me those deep, playful expressions of hers and it bothered me. However, I concluded that meeting with my stepmother would have caused it. She must have been so nervous. Mama came into the room, wearing a smile as usual. "The meal is ready, Miss. Shall I escort you?" Mama offered. "Don't worry, Mama," I replied. "I will take my friend by myself. You should go and rest for now." Mama turned towards Susan,"You are the best friend of the lady of the mansion. Please make sure to feel at home and enjoy your stay here." "It will be a short one, ma'am," Susan replied. "I will leave after lunch." "Why?" I touched Susan's shoulder lightly. "If you are here, just stay with me till evening. I will get the driver to take you home." "I'm sorry," Susan managed to smile. "I have some papers I need to finish working on. They are research papers and they need to be submitted soon." I nodded in accepta

Susan's POV I stared at Sherlyn. She had a smile on her face and it felt as if I was giving her exactly what she wanted. I had to stop being uneasy. If I continued like this, it would be the same as giving her hints about what I really wanted. "May is a good friend..." I began to say. "She won't treat me as a slave of hers. In fact, she treats no one like they are slaves. You shouldn't use that line." "I know you have big dreams," Sherlyn told me calmly. "You studied medicine and surgery for many years in the university. You started at our hospital as a resident for four years and now, you are a fellow. Next year, you are supposed to clinch the professor's position and be an official staff member. Life would get really rosy when that happens." "What about that?" I asked feigning ignorance. "I am sure you won't give up your dreams just to become a doctor nobody knows at your friend's house," Sherlyn continued. "May is known for being Nicholas's wife but do you think she will be sa

Sherlyn The hospital's chief executive officer was right in front of me. His name was Roberts and he has been in the position since the time of my husband. I was seated while he stood. He was a tall man with a beastly aura. "I deserve an explanation for what happened yesterday, don't I?" I asked him calmly. "I am sorry, ma'am," He replied. "Stop it!" I shouted angrily. "I need an explanation rather than an insincere apology. How on earth could the VIP room be accessed forcefully. Is that the kind of system we are building? Where is the hospital's pride as the best hospital in the country?" He said nothing. He must have thought this was his best option. However, it made me angrier. "Do you know why I didn't fire you even though you were fiercely loyal to my husband?" I asked him carefully. "I'm not sure..." He muttered. "However, I think it might be because I am good at my job." "Exactly," I replied with a smirk on my face. "I fired almost every executive that was loyal to Marc

  • ACCIDENTAL SURROGATE FOR THE BILLIONAIRES   Chapter 27

MAY What was that incident? Was it related to Nicholas's nightmare? I turned towards Mama, searching for answers. However, she looked away. I touched her shoulder lightly and looked into her eyes. "I need to know the problem if I am going to help Nicholas," I told her carefully. "He slept well last night in my arms. However, that would work only when I'm there. If you want him to sleep peacefully, tell me the reason. I will help him." "I have no doubt you can help him," Mama muttered. "It's an old matter and only a few people know it. It happened when he was ten years old and he has been traumatized by it since then. He had to see a psychiatrist for a while but he continued to have nightmares every night. I get worried about him every now and then due to that reason." "What happened?" I asked curiously. "It was an accident!" Mama replied. "He went driving with his parents and they got into an accident. Only Nicholas survived and he blames himself for what happened. He thinks

  • ACCIDENTAL SURROGATE FOR THE BILLIONAIRES   Chapter 26

MAY I knew exactly when he entered the room. I could tell he was being delicate so he wouldn't rouse me so I simply played along. I acted as if I was asleep. He went to shower and after, he literally crawled into bed with me. When it seemed as if he was asleep, I turned to look at him. He was particularly handsome when he was asleep. I turned to sleep only to hear him jump out of bed in a few minutes. I turned out of concern and by the time I did, he was sitting at a corner in the bed. It had only been fifteen minutes when he slept off. How could nightmares come already? "Do you have nightmares every night?" I asked as I touched his shoulder. He turned back to look at me and took a deep breath. "Go to bed," He told me. He stood up and walked to the door. I sat up quickly. "Where are you going?" I asked him. "I want to grab a bottle of water. Go to bed, May," He told me. "I have water here," I pointed at the table. "Drink that and join me in bed." Nicholas sighed. "Just go to b

NICHOLAS It was eerie and that was the exact impression I wanted to leave in Charles's heart. I could see him shaking out of fear. He was right to do that. "Please don't kill me..." He muttered with his voice quivering. "I won't tell anyone about this. I won't report to the police that you kidnapped me. I beg you. I will do whatever you want me to." "Is that so?" I laughed. "You have seen many movies, it seems. I haven't seen as many as you would have so I will ask you this. What happens to the victim when he sees his kidnapper's face?" "I promise I will tell nobody. Just spare my life!" He begged. I smiled and stood up from my chair. I walked behind him and slowly touched his shoulders. He was tied so he couldn't move but I could tell that he was out of breath. "I am not a kidnapper for ransom as you already know," I began. "You have the guts to whisper terrifying things into the ears of my wife and that's why you are here.""Te... Terrifying things?" He stammered. "You see, Ch
