VIVIAN
I slammed the table as I went through my day with a frown. "What on earth happened?" I mumbled under my breath. "How the fuck did this happen?" "Vivian," Nicholas called as he walked into my office which was just in front of his. "Yes, Nicholas," I replied às I stood up. He raised an eyebrow at me but looked away after that. "Do you have my schedule for the day ready?" "Yes," I replied as I went through my notes. "Actually, no." Once again, he raised an eyebrow at me. "Get it ready then." He headed straight for his office and I was left all alone with my thoughts again. He might not look like it most times but Nicholas was my lover. As both my lover and my boss, Nicholas was a mix of both hot and cold. He can be warm sometimes and cold sometimes. Today seemed to be the day when he was more business than affection, and that suited me well. As I hurried to cobble together a coherent version of his schedule, I couldn't help the turmoil in my mind. "How on earth did this happen?" I knocked on his door and opened it before he could say anything. "Welcome, Vivian," he said as he worked on his computer. "I have your schedule," I said as I placed it on his desk. "Would you take a look at that article on the table?" He replied by pointing at the tab he had left in front of me. "Why?" I asked calmly as I picked up the tab. "You tell me," he said as he continued working, not even looking up at me. I frowned as I skimmed through the details of the article. "May Greenfield is pregnant," I said. "That's surprising. I thought that girl was an angel. Conan Grey must be devastated. I was too busy so I couldn't watch the engagement yesterday." "Keep reading," he said calmly. I kept reading and then slowly grew stiffer with each line. "Nicholas..." "It appears May Greenfield got impregnated by artificial insemination," he said. "She obviously wasn't aware of it or she wouldn't have denied it so vehemently. I also see no reason to get pregnant and ruin her image when she could have just had sex. I mean, if you're gonna do the time, at least commit the crime first. Don't you agree?" "Y-Yes," I stuttered. "Normally, I have no business with this," he shrugged. "The girl is too much of a goody two shoes for me and Conan isn't even worth my thoughts. I have never had anything that would have connected me to her or this saga surrounding her. "Nicholas..." "So imagine my surprise," he said as he sat up and stared into my eyes. "When the article said that it had been confirmed to her pregnancy has my DNA in it. It has the DNA of three people actually, which is unprecedented, but I am quite interested with mine being a part of it. I am not a promiscuous man and there was only one person with access to my semen." "I can explain," I said. "Oh, please do," he smiled as he interlaced his fingers under his chin and stared at me with a hit of a smile on his face. "The one thing I need more than anything else is a fucking explanation." "This.... I....." I couldn't get the words out. Those stern green eyes staring into mine was too daunting of a situation to be in. I summoned the courage to look away from him as I finally spoke. "I wanted to bear your child, Nicholas," I said slowly. "I wanted to be more than a convenient sex tool." "That was not your decision to make," he said calmly. Too calm. "Did you think I would accept you if you showed up with a pregnancy and claimed it was for me? Even if it was mine." "I was hoping." "What surprises me is the fact that you allowed it to be given to someone else," he said. "If you wanted to bear my child, then why aren't you carrying my child?" "T-There was a mix up at the hospital," I stuttered. "I only found out about this a few days ago too. Your semen was mislabeled and given to the wrong person." "If you only found out days ago then that means you did have a semen deposited in you, right?" He smiled. "You're pregnant, and I'm not the father." "I can fix this, Nicholas," I said desperately. "Give me a little more time. I can still be the mother of your child. I can-" "Enough," he sighed. "I never wanted you as the mother of my child. I guess this worked out the best way it could possibly have. I don't want my child having a mother that would literally steal my semen and impregnate herself. That's demented." "But-" "Like I said, this girl, May carries not only my DNA but that of two other people, Donny Yield and Harry Weiss." "Nicholas, you're not." "Yes, I am," he said coldly. "Thanks to you, I am now in a tussle with those two bastards for ownership of a child that should be rightfully mine. Harry would be especially tough to deal with. That bastard has been trying to get under my skin for years now." "I can fix this," I said. "I can-" "You aren't suggesting aborting my child, are you?" I stared at him for a few seconds. "You said you won't accept the child if I was pregnant with it." "I won't," he replied. "But, you aren't. You couldn't even achieve that, could you? You let my semen is injected in some random girl who somehow retained the DNAs of two other people!" That was the first time in a while that Nicholas has yelled. He seemed surprised at himself as well. He cleared his throat and pinched the bridge of his nose. "Scratch my schedule for today and call my lawyer. I'm going to meet this May Greenfield.”NICHOLAS As I left the place, I was boiling in anger, not at May but at myself. I just got what I deserved. Why would I hold onto May who was disappointed in me? I should have never followed her in the first place. I must have been crazy. I got to the garage and Kelvin saw me. "Aren't you leaving with Miss May?" Kelvin asked me carefully."Bring her back safely," I replied. "If anything happens to her, I'm holding you responsible. Make sure she comes back to the mansion!" "Yes, boss," Kelvin responded. I got into my own car and drove off. As I drove, I had several thoughts. Several scenarios played in my mind but nothing frightened me more than May following Conan to his place after dinner. That should never happen. We were legally married. But... I was also involved with Vivian and Lydia. What if she wanted payback? The contract didn't state that she couldn't be with other men. If I could have sex with Vivian, she was also entitled to do it with Conan. This was driving me crazy
MAY I had noticed Nicholas's car behind my trail ever since I left the mansion. Kelvin also confirmed it. He had been a driver for years and he could tell when he was being followed. Nicholas's disguise to enter the restaurant was a funny one. I could tell who he was right from his figure. So when Conan began to say much, I stepped in right away. “Don’t badmouth my husband. He is right there,” I pointed to Nicholas. I could see the shock registered on Conan's face as I said this. Nicholas turned and smiled uneasily. I smiled back at him naughtily."Oh, he came with you," Conan managed to say. "Come and join us, honey. Come here," I gestured to Nicholas. He looked so nervous as he came to sit with us. Conan was the same. The waiter came over and served us. "I have heard a lot about you, Mr. Nicholas. I was going to see you in the next few weeks. I never knew I would get the opportunity just like this," Conan said slyly. Nicholas simply kept a smile on his face. "I haven't heard a
NICHOLAS “In a nutshell,” May interrupted. “You pulled strings to get Lydia the appointment.” Wait! Did I do that? When did I do such a thing? What was May saying? “No, that never happened. I never knew her name until today. How could I promote her to the housekeeper? The decision was made by Mama without my involvement,” I answered quickly. However, I could tell that May did not believe me. She must have thought I was only making excuses. Well, I would have thought the same if I were in her shoes. “Anything you say!” May laughed it off. She sat on the bed and began to take off her heels. Afterwards, she laid on the bed, laughing wickedly. I wouldn’t be shocked to hear that she had a murder plan for me.“Hey, you believe me, don’t you?” I asked just to be sure. That was purely unnecessary. “Why would I believe you? Do you think I have a pumpkin instead of a brain?” She asked. I was officially fed up. I had no way to convince her anymore. Just as I decided to continue, I heard her
MAY The drive helped me calm my nerves. I did some thinking on my own and realized that I might have feelings for Nicholas. That was the only reason I would be so annoyed about Lydia. This wasn’t the plan I had when I accepted the contract marriage offer. I had to do something about it before I fell even harder. “Fall for him?” I muttered to myself. “What did you say, Miss?” Abby asked. She thought I was talking to her. “Please focus on the road, Abby,” I replied dryly. Both of us were on our way back to Nicholas’s mansion. My phone rang and I stared in shock at the familiar number. I could feel my heart beating hard as I thought about what I should do. The caller was Conan, my ex-fiance. I rejected the call uneasily. Abby remained focused on the road. I eased into my seat and sighed. I was bothered by the mere idea of Conan calling me. What was he doing that for? Did he want to apologize for cutting off our engagement just like that? Oh no! Conan would never do that. He
NICHOLAS I was unsettled. Ever since May caught me kissing Lydia, I had been worried since then. I couldn't concentrate on anything and I blamed myself. I shouldn't have done that no matter the situation. But I was more worried that May might get the wrong idea. I didn't come back to the room that night so I could give her space, it wasn't that I went back to Lydia. Vivian entered my office, holding some documents. She had a smile on her face. I stared at her as she dropped the documents on my table. "The stock prices are rising, boss. It appears your PR went well," Vivian told me calmly. She showed me her iPad and I could see that it was rising indeed. On a normal day, this would be enough to get me so excited. However, nothing of such was happening today. "Okay, I understand," I simply replied. I could see the shocked expression on Vivian's face after I said this. It was her own turn to stare at me. One would think she was scanning my face. "Boss!" I heard her call me. "I am
MAY I clenched my fists. I thought I could fake a smile but my face didn’t cooperate with my slyness. She was dressed in a different attire, one that I had never seen since I got to the mansion. The maid stepped backwards as she came forward.“My name is Lydia and I am the current housekeeper. For the next two weeks, I will take up the duties of the butler and manage the maids until Mama comes back. Nice to meet you, Miss,” She smiled at me. Just by taking one look at her, I could tell that she was an opportunist. She was smiling so confidently, not minding that she was caught with my husband last night. What an effrontery. “Whose decision is this?” I asked calmly. I was so close to having an outburst. I had to control myself but it was getting harder every moment.“It wasn’t Nicholas, don’t worry,” Lydia replied.“And how dare you call my husband by his name! Are maids supposed to do such discourtesy?” I asked angrily. I was genuinely upset.“You can leave,” Lydia told the maid be
