I slapped him, twice. “MUM” One word and my anger completely dissolved. Panic set in as I realized I had used violence in front of children. I quickly turned away from Steven and rushed to Michelle, wrapping my arms around her trembling form. "It's okay, Elle, it's okay," I whispered, helping wipe her tears. "It won't happen again," I promised, holding her tight as she clung to me, her small body shaking with sobs.

"The both of you get in the car," Steven instructed them, but they didn't move, their eyes fixed on me instead. I gently lifted Michael from the counter and pulled him into a tight hug, Michelle wrapping her arms around me as well.

"Steven, please don't do this in front of the children," I pleaded, my voice soft but urgent. I held Michelle and Michael close, hugging them tightly until their tears stopped and they calmed down. "Go with Dad," I whispered to them gently. "I shall come visit you soon," I promised.

"Are you sure, Mum?" Michelle asked, her voice laced with doubt.
