I wanted to laugh. Was she mocking me, or just stalling for time?

"The Orchid has existed for five centuries," Linsley repeated, her voice low but serious. "And so have we."

I stared at her. Did she actually believe she was some kind of vampire? If my life wasn't full of ridiculous realities, I would have laughed. "Who exactly is we?" I asked.

"All of us. The ones at the very top." She replied like it wasn't a joke.

"Wow." I shook my head, convinced she had finally lost her mind.
