Chapter 6

The sharp wind pierced through his clothes and caught his skin when he stood at the entrance of the thick woods. He looked into it and sighed deeply, he had concluded that it will be the last time he would go looking for the wolf and after that night, he would still continue to come to the woods but not for the wolf but for his run. He closed his dark eyes and released Hank. The wolf stood at the entrance of the woods, big, black and tall. His dark eyes shone in the dark and he howled. A loud howl of frustration. Then he jumped into the woods, running. He ran fast and hard, silently hoping to see the wolf again. Even if it was the last time.

When he strained his ear, he heard it. It was far off and it came in a slow and low wave. The sound of a big wolf's feet meeting the dry leaves and twigs. Hank halted immediately and looked at the direction where the wave was coming from, it was the direction where he came from the other day. Hank could feel his heart beating rapidly, what if it was not the wolf? What if it was a human? Hank looked around and when he saw a big tree, he leapt behind it and stayed there. Straining his ears, the wave was stronger and the steps were harder and faster, thunderous. It was a wolf certainly and Hank wondered if it was him, the black wolf.

He haltered when he could feel the presence. He looked around and he could see nothing and when he sniffed the air, he could perceive it. It was a wolf and he knew who it was. The black wolf with black eyes, the one he saw the last time he was in that part of the woods. He did not feel alert or scared, he just stopped running and started walking, slowly.

The wolf jumped out of a big tree and he was startled for a moment. He halted immediately. He wondered what a werewolf was doing on the other side of the pack, in a community full of humans. He looked into the wolf's dark eyes which were shining brightly now and the wolf looked into his. He could see the innocence in those eyes and the inexperience. He started walking again, slowly but the wolf blocked his path. Normally, he was supposed to be on alert and pose to attack but he did not, he could see that the wolf meant no harm and even if he did, he was no match for him.  They both stood there looking at each other, non-making any moves.

When the black wolf with black eyes transformed, he was taken aback. He did not ask the boy to transform but he was glad he did. A tall white boy with a broad chest could be mistaken for a man if not for his face. His face, deep dark eyes with a little pointed nose and little pink lips, almost babyish. Completely babyish.

"Hi." The boy said and wave his hand at him.

He did not see a need to be uptight with the boy so he transformed and when he did, the boy gasped.

When he heard the waves coming closer, he peeped from the big tree to see who it was. It was him, the blue-eyed wolf. The wolf seemed to notice his presence and he stopped, sniffing in the air. Hank watched as the wolf started walking again, coming to the tree and when the wolf was closer, he jumped in front of him. Hank wanted to release a laugh when he saw the expression on the wolf's face when he jumped in front of him, he looked startled. They looked at each other and when the wolf made to walk again, he blocked his path. He was not going anywhere until they spoke to each other this time. But he knew the wolf would not speak to him, he had not made a sound since they met. He had to do something to make the wolf talk. He released Fay.

*** FAY'S P.O.V ***

"Hi," Fay said when Hank released him and he waved at the wolf in front of him.

He looked smaller now that he had transformed. The wolf still stared at him, surprise-filled his eyes and Fay did not understand why the wolf was surprised. After a long while of staring at him, the wolf transformed and he gasped.

A tall and skinny boy. Not exactly too skinny, he had an athletic kind of skinny body. Fay was more muscular and taller than the boy but the boy looked more mature than Fay. His face was sculptured like a god, a handsome face with blue eyes and a pointed nose, and his lips were pink, a bright shade of pink.

"What are you gasping at?" The boy asked when he saw Fay looking at him, absent-minded.

"Mmh. Nothing." Fay responded and stretched his hands.

"Fay. My name is Fay." Fay introduced himself and the boy shook his hand.

The boy's little palm met his large one in a handshake and he covered it. He was bigger than the boy and he wondered why the boy had a big wolf despite his skinny stature. He had always thought that Hank was so big because he was big too.

"Jake is my name." The boy spoke, introducing himself too.

They had spoken for the first time and Fay gave out a sigh. Sigh of relief. He had thought the boy was just an imagination but the boy indeed was not. He talked. When they disengaged their hands from the shake, they stood there silently, staring at each other. Both had a thousand and one questions to ask but none did. It was dead silent and the silence felt awkward.

"Want to run together?" Fay asked.

The boy, Jake. He did not say anything to Fay, he just nodded his head. Maybe the boy did not want to talk to him, maybe the boy didn't just like talking. But whatever the case was, Fay was glad he communicated. They both transformed and after a short while of looking at each other, they both kicked off running.
