Chapter 7

Hank ran as fast and hard as he could but the boy was a beast. The blue-eyed wolf ran with expertise and experience, fast. After a long time of chasing Jake, Hank finally stopped, shaken and tired. He had never run that way in his life. The blue-eyed wolf noticed he had stopped and he halted too, he walked back to where Hank stood.

"So weak." The blue-eyed wolf scoffed.

Hank heard him and he growled at the wolf and the wolf growled back. Hank wanted to pounce on the wolf, to scratch and bite and give him wounds but he could not. He was too tired.

They transformed back to their human forms after a while. Fay was gasping for air when he transformed, his lungs burned with fatigue and his throat felt patched, he needed water. He sat tiredly on the ground, the dry leaves and twigs made a loud noise when his butt sat on them. He looked up at the boy, Jake. He stood there, tirelessly and looking down at Fay. He still looked energetic even after that hectic run. He took his eyes off the boy and his gaze fell to the ground.

"You have a long way to go," Jake spoke when Fay's eyes left his.

Fay did not say anything. He knew he did. He knew had an extremely long way to go compared to the boy. He wondered how old the boy was.

"Why are you not in the pack in the first place?" Jake asked.

Fay's head shot up immediately after Jake asked that question. He had heard the word somewhere, the word Pack. He shot his eyes, trying to recall where he had heard of the word, but nothing came. He looked at Jake again.

"Pack? What is a pack?" Fay asked.

Jake laughed. Fay's brows knotted in anger, wondering what was funny about his question.

"Where do you live?" Jake asked him back.

"On the other side of the woods," Fay answered.

"That is, you are with the humans," Jake stated and Fay nodded his head.

"Why?" Jake asked again.

Fay's brows knotted harder. What did he mean by why?

"I was born there of course," Fay answered.

He sounded rude.

"Oh," Jake said.

"What is a pack?" Fay asked again.

"It's a place where werewolves live. It's a big territory." Jake answered.

Fay's eyes widened. What did he mean by werewolves? Where is there more of him?"

"Werewolves?" Fay asked.

"Yes," Jake answered.

"How... How many are they?" Fay asked again.

"We are countless. So much." Jake answered.

"Whoa!!" Fay exclaimed.

With that, non of them spoke to each other again. Jake went to a nearby tree and leaned on it.

When he stood there, leaning on the tree, his mind drifted off. The boy said he was born in the human world and Jake wondered if it was possible that a human could bear a wolf. Certainly not, his tutor had made it clear that humans don't bear werewolf babies, they were weak, especially the women and they would not stand the strength of which a werewolf baby usually comes out of their mother's womb.

If humans could not bear werewolves then he wondered what his newfound friend was doing among humans. Who dropped him there?

When he had finally caught his breath, he stood up. He needed to dry water.

"I will be on my way." He said to Jake.

The boy walked over to where he was standing and looked up at Fay, Fay was taller than he was.

"Promise you would come tomorrow." Jake requested.

"I promise," Fay said.

They shook hands again and Fay transformed. Hank could not run, he was too fatigued. He looked at Jake and he howled a goodbye. Jake waved back and Hank turned around, walking away.

By the time he got to the entrance of the woods, it was dawn. Hank transformed and Fay walked tiredly on the lonely road. When he finally got to his house, he went straight to the kitchen and gulped down three bottles of water. The run had drained him. He walked to his room after drinking water and he fell on the bed. He did not bother taking off his clothes. He lay on the bed, tired.

In no time at all, his eyes became heavy and sleepy. He could not resist the sleep, he needed it. As his eyes closed, slipping into the darkness, he had only one name on his lips.

"Jake."

When he woke up the next day, the sun was up and shining. It was not hot but it was just warm and bright. His body ached from all the running he did yesterday and he did not want to go out of the house and he did not. He lay in bed all day. He did not go to his mother's stall in the market and non of his parents came to check up on him, not like he was expecting them to. They had stopped caring for him and his welfare since they found out he was a werewolf.

When Fay left him in the woods, he did not leave for the pack immediately. He did not want to leave, he had to run. He ran in the woods for a long time until it was dawn, and then he headed back to the pack.

He got to the pack when the morning sun was rising. The werewolves were still in their houses and only a few were outside. He walked past the houses, waving at the greetings of the werewolves and the call out of children. When he got to his house, he went inside. His house is a tall building. Just one storey building which was big. His father was the Alpha of the pack and it explained why they lived in the biggest house in the pack. When he walked into the house, it was awfully quiet, his family was probably asleep and he needed to get some sleep too. He walked up the stairs and up to his room.
