Charlotte pushed open the door at the top of the stairs with a touch of trepidation. It probably hadn't been wise to leave Forester and come to New York to live like a normal person. But she hadn't been so foolish as to come without letting anyone know. The Uber driver had waited at the bottom of the stairway, still muttering how much he hated to wait to take back a customer when he could have gone to render services to others.

In truth it wasn't all that stupid to have come to the city, for New York is known to be home to people who want to start a new life, make money, and get away from their past. And it was in her best interest to leave behind her pain or better to put it as gathering energy to go back and fight for love.

Even at that, it was comforting to know she was alone here and she would soon begin to work here in this book store as a cleaner. She could get some money there to take care of herself or to disguise being a thief at night. Living in New York co
