CHAPTER 1

Angelina's POV

I would take an alien invasion over Mondays, any day.

Mondays were the worst thing to ever happen to humanity. I couldn’t think of anything worse than a Monday.

First of all, I have to be up by 4 am to walk my neighbor’s dog just to earn enough money to take the bus then I have to get ready for a stupid class that I didn’t even like and to top it off my best friend Leslie wasn’t done getting ready for the class which means I was going to be late.

“Leslie, get your ass out here now,” I yelled and I heard shuffling before she finally rushed out of the dorm.

“Calm your tits, Allie,” she fake scolded as she threw her bag into the back seat, “I haven’t even done my makeup yet.”

Leslie would be a woodland fairy if they existed. She had light brown hair that was always pulled into a high ponytail and it bounced across her shoulder blades when she runs. Her eyes were a beautiful shade of amber and she was really short, only reaching 5’2.

She also had this obsession with keeping the world clean. She was a vegan and only wears eco-friendly clothes.

Did I mention she volunteered for a recycling NGO during the weekends?

“We’re late, Leslie, what were you doing all morning?”

“I slept in,” she shrugged, “It’s not my fault honestly, I stayed up all night reading this really nice fantasy novel.”

“Oh no,” I groaned.

Leslie had an obsession with fantasy novels. For as long as I have known her, she always had her nose buried in a book and that wasn’t even the weird part, the weird part was that she was convinced they were real.

“I am going to ignore your pessimism,” she said, “Anyways this book is about a really evil Alpha.”

“Let me guess what happens,” I interrupted, “He finds his mate and she makes him a better person. Sorry to burst your little fantasy bubble; but that doesn’t happen in real life.”

“First of all, that is not what happened,” she shot me a scathing look, “Second of all, they do happen.”

“My apologies; what happened in the book?”

“Well the Alpha was very rude, especially to her and he treated her so badly,” she grimaced as if remembering something, “But then when he finally did fall in love with her, he made sure to atone for everything he had done wrong.”

I glanced at her awe-struck face and couldn’t help but burst out laughing.

“I knew you were going to laugh,” she pouted.

“I really tried my best not to,” I steadied my breathing, “Do you know that if you put in the same energy you use to read into school, you’d be a grade A student.”

She stuck out her tongue at me in retaliation.

“You really need to read this one; it’s about fairies and werewolves,” she gushed, “I can’t wait to meet an actual fairy.”

“Fairies don’t exist, Leslie,” I said in a bored tone.

“Of course they do,” she argued, “If they didn’t then why would people write about them?”

“Because it’s a myth, and it’s fantasy, it sells well.”

“Every myth is based on truth,”

“If that is true then we probably have fifteen different groups of gods in the world,” I countered, “The Greeks, the Romans, the Egyptians, and let’s not forget your supernaturals and the gods they worship.”

“You’re just too rigid.”

“That also means we have aliens and mermaids as well as deep sea creatures.”

“Well, science does say that about 95% of the ocean is undiscovered.” She offered, “They could live at the bottom where humans can’t go.”

“No creature as large as a mermaid can survive at the depths of the ocean. The pressure would kill them in seconds.”

“They’re magical; anything is possible.”

        “I’m sorry but I don’t believe that.”

“One day, you are going to see that I was right and I am going to say ‘I told you so’.”

“There is a higher possibility of me finding a million-dollar cheque on the floor than that happening.”

“You are such an unbeliever and you will regret it when the creatures decide to start showing up.”

“I think you’ve read one too many fantasy books,” I patted her head in a comforting manner, “You should try nonfantasy.”

“You should try believing more.”

“I do believe,” I smiled, “In things that make sense like science and not children's stories like the tooth fairy and the Easter bunny.”

“The tooth fairy isn’t actually as nice as people think,” she said suddenly, “They’re actually mean fairies who steal your teeth and use them to lay a curse on you.”

“I can’t do this with you today,” I threw my hands up in frustration, “Let’s just go to class and forget about all this today.”

“Don’t say I didn’t warn you when you find your teeth missing.”

“I can’t believe I spent the entire drive to campus arguing with you about fantasy,” I muttered, stopping the car in the school parking lot, “Take the keys; you always finish classes early.”

We got out of the car and I made sure to lock it before handing her the keys.

I’ll see you at the end of the day.”

“Bye,” she gave me a small wave as she skipped her way into the main building.

I couldn’t help but shake my head as I watched her go.

Sooner or later she is going to have to let go of this ridiculous fantasy mindset that she has, I thought inwardly.

I turned to walk to my faculty when I noticed a car swerve right in front of me.

“What the hell, you asshole?” I yelled, “Don’t you know how to drive?”

The back door opened and a guy stepped out.

“Didn’t you see me standing here?” I snapped, staring daggers at him., “You could have run me over. Were your eyes closed while you were driving?”

He walked over to me until we were standing toe to toe and I took a step back.

“Personal space, dude.”

I tried to sidestep the guy but he stood in front of me and I finally looked up at him.

He was tall, I had to crane my neck to look at him and I was not exactly a short person at 5’7. His hair was a shade of dark chocolate and his eyes looked almost black.

“Can I help you?” I asked as I placed my hands on my hips but he stayed silent, “You don’t just bump into people and stare at them. I don’t know where you’re from but that’s not how it’s done here.”

“Brown hair, curvy,” he trailed off and I looked at him in confusion.

“Are you just going to stand there and list off my qualities?” I scoffed, “That is creepy as fuck.”

       “You are here,”

“What the hell are you talking about?” I asked, “You know what, I don’t even want to know.” I made to go my way but he blocked me again.

“You’re coming with me,” he stated, pulling me towards a car and I tried to wrench my hand out of his grip.

I opened my mouth to scream but he slapped a huge palm over my lips and then pushed me into the black SUV where three other men were seated; one at the back with me and two in the front seats.

“Drive,” he commanded, after slouching into the car seat beside me and the one in the driver’s seat stepped on the gas.

The car roared to life before I could scream for help.
