LOGINChapter 4
She knew who exactly he was. The realisation hit her before she could stop it. ‘Of all people…it was him.’ A bitter thought spread in her chest. This perverted wolf. Lucero looked down at the woman with a cold face. Anais sucked in her breath. ‘Was he here to mock her too?’ she asked herself as she took a step back. Fear, indignation, and self-loathing were written all over her face. ‘Was he here to witness her humiliation? To laugh? Her finger curled tightly around her dress, her nails digging into her palm. She forced herself to look him in the eye, raising her chin slightly. She had been humiliated enough, one more person would hurt more. “If you want to laugh…” her voice trembled but she didn't back down. “Then go ahead.” For a moment…nothing happened. Gradually, the pressure increased, as if there was an invincible hand pressing down on all of them. It was heavy and commanding. Lucero looked away from the little woman in front of him. He took in her disheveled state. Her ruined makeup. The handprint on her cheek. He clenched his fist, his gaze darkened. He didn't reply. Instead, his dark eyes fell towards the instigators. Anais mother took a step back, her face pale. She shivered, ready to bolt at any time. Lucero moved his eyes and they landed on Damian. Damian reacted like he had been zapped. He was the one who started everything. He couldn't look Lucero in the eyes. His head dropped to the ground. “Alpha,” he called out. A ripple of Whisper broke out. Lucero’s identity was confirmed. “Is that really him?” “Oh my gosh, I almost didn't notice.” “He changed so much, he’s so handsome now?” “Who knew imthat he would become one of the sons of the most respected alpha. If I had known before—” Anais studies the man in front of her. He used to cower in the corner of the hallway. Now look at him. Power, respect, and fear clung to his body like a second skin. This wasn't the boy she remembered. There was something else about him. Something…overwhelming. His gaze finally dropped to her. And for the first time since he came in, something flickered in his eyes. It wasn't pity, it wasn't amusement, and it wasn't disgusting either. It was something colder. Something darker. Without a word, in one swift motion. He took off his jacket and draped it around her shoulders. His hand lingered longer than necessary. The fabric was warm and large. His scent floated into her nostrils. It wrapped around her, commanding and comforting. It swallowed her own scent effortlessly. “Stay still.” she heard him say above her. It wasn't a request. It was a command. She tensed up. That simple action causes collective intake of breath from the crowd. The whispers grew, this time it was louder. “He just touched her.” “He covered her scent.” “Why would he do that?” “What does that mean?” Fiona in the crowd saw the coat being wrapped around Anais. She clenched her teeth hard. “That bloody slut.” she whispered through her teeth. That should have been her. Who does Anais think she is? Damian widened his eyes when he saw the coat. He looked away, something flashed in his eyes but it disappeared as quickly as it came. Anais continued to stare at Lucero like a fool. She held the jacket but her eyes questioned his action. She was confused and unsettled. “What are you doing?” she asked. Lucero raised his hands, halfway through, he dropped them. “I'm not here to laugh at you.” His voice was low and steady. “But—” she started but he cut her off. Stepping closer to her. “And no one.” he continued, his voice louder for everyone to hear. “No one will touch you.” His eyes swept the room, daring anyone to challenge him. They stopped at Damian. The words settled heavily in the silence. Anais was taken aback. There was something in the way he said those words. It didn't feel like a promise. It felt like a claim. ‘What did he mean?’ Damian clenched his fist. Jealousy burned in his chest. The feeling uncomfortable and overbearing. She was his mate. Even if he had rejected her, that didn't mean that someone else could just swoop in and take her. His jaw clenched. Angry veins grew on his forehead and neck. His eyes darkened as he continued to stare at the jacket on Anais's shoulder. The way she stood very close to the alpha. Covered by another wolf's scent. The tension thickened. Everyone could feel it. They looked from Lucero to Damian. But before the tension could snap, a voice cut through the silence. “What do you think you are doing?” Everyone turned. It was Anais' father. His time was firm, but there was something restrained underneath. Fear. He tried to hide it, tried to stand tall but the difference between him and the man was huge. The man had status, power, and authority while he had none. How could he let this daughter be with a man like him? He was her father, he could do what he wanted as long as it was his daughter. “You have no right to…” his voice decreased with each word. Lucero didn't look at him immediately. And that only made things embarrassing. But when he did, it was a slow and measured movement. His eyes were cold to the point of freezing. The father faltered in his steps. The remaining words were swallowed back. He knew he could talk to his daughter at that moment. Lucero wasn't just protecting her, he was claiming space, taking control of the room. In just a short time, he rewrote the moment. Anais's fingers tightened around the jacket. Standing close to him, breathing in his scent. The weight of his presence from all sides. This wasn't just protection. A strange unease crept up her spine. Lucero ignored Anais' father. He turned to Damian and spat out one word. “Kneel.”Lucero stood outside her door. Almost all the employees were gone by now; only Anais's assistant was in her office, legs up on the table, headphones on, a bag of popcorn in hand as she laughed at something on her screen. Lucero frowned. “Was this company behavior?”He sighed and shook his head. What he wanted to do now wasn’t company behavior, so he was going to let it slide. He adjusted his tie, and then raised his hands to knock. Inside the office, Anaïs didn't look up when the knock came. She was certain it was her assistant. However, the knock was a bit different. "Come in," she said, her eyes still on the report in front of her. Across the desk, Emma was halfway through reading a document aloud, her glasses sliding down her nose as she muttered about a vendor's terrible formatting.“We should really look into this.” Emma flicked the paper in frustration. Anaïs nodded along. “What does section B say about the supply?”Emma began reading again, then she picked up a pen and ma
Mia looked like she had seen a ghost. An evil ghost at that. She could barely get the words out, with how much her lips trembled. “Papa?” She called out. The man chuckled lightheartedly. The sound was like a trigger that unlocked something painful. "Oh my dear, Mia. It looks like you dropped something." His voice was soft and kind. The kind of voice you would expect from Santa Claus. She couldn't move. The yellow petals lay scattered sorrowfully across the pavement between them. Her heart sped up. She knew why he was there. “Papa…I—you—I- was going to s-send you a mess—” "My people tell me," he cut her off, "that you have been less than honest with me about your progress in the Blackwood company. Mia began playing with her fingers. She scratched the edge of her thumb, peeling back the first skin. "I—no, I—" Her throat clamped shut. Her tongue felt thick and clumsy. "I've been trying. I really have, I just—he's careful, he—there hasn't been a good—""Three weeks."Yes, she had
Asher did not chase her again. No. He was a man of dignity and integrity, a man of vast knowledge who loved gaining more.Knowledge was important. And so he spent the whole night researching: “How to woo a BEAUTIFUL lady who is shy and hardworking. Oh, and sweet too.” His search results had more than a hundred essays and articles. His eyes widened. He had never seen so many articles about one thing before. He stretched his back and got to reading. The next morning, he came back with a small paper bag and set it on her desk without a word. He didn’t even look at her. He left as soon as he came. Mia looked completely stunned. The other ladies in the shared office all pushed back their chairs and gave her a look.“Someone managed to snag the attention of a rich alpha.”“Oh my gosh girl, how did you do it? Give me some tips. I want a rich boyfriend too.”“You aren’t young anymore, Olga. And don't you have a mate?” Olga rolled her eyes. “He isn't a billionaire. I want to be spoiled too.
MATE.The words were so loud and bold that her knees almost buckled under her. In front of her, Asher froze too, his hands still half raised to steady her, his golden eyes going wide. For one heartbeat, the entire room stopped existing. They stopped hearing Auguste’s voice; they only saw themselves in the other person's eyes. “Asher?!”!They suddenly snapped out. Asher raised his head to see Auguste beckoning him over. Then Mia pushed away from him, her face turning white as paper, and bolted out the door.Asher stared after her. Behind him, he could hear Auguste still chuckling and Lucero muttering something about apologies and misunderstandings. And Anais asking about the details Nobody had noticed. Nobody had seen how his hands were shaking. He had found his Mate after a hundred years of painful searching. He looked towards his siblings in the room and fell into deep thought. “Should he tell them?”Auguste and his other brothers would be thrilled. Anaïs would be happy too. Then
“How can you say that? Isn't she your sister?” He asked in shock. Everything suddenly went silent. All activities stopped. Nobody moved. Auguste opened his mouth, then he closed it; no words came out. Mia looked at Lucero, bewildered. Anaïs looked at Lucero, then at the brothers, then at Mia, then back at Lucero. She was also bewildered. Auguste's mouth had gone slightly slack again, and Asher was staring at his new friend as if the man had grown a second head.Anais was the most bothered. Auguste and Asher had a sister? And she was working for Lucero? How come they never told her? How come she has never met this sister before? Anais' heart twisted. She looked over at Mia with jealousy and mild annoyance. She was the first to break the silence. "I didn’t know you guys had a sister?” Anais grumbled, folding her arms across her chest. Then Auguste made a strangled sound in his throat, and Asher's shoulders began to shake, and a second later both of them were laughing so hard they
Two more weeks have gone by since Mia’s last assignment. She had been on the edge ever since. “Has the boss given up on her? Would he go back on his word? What would happen to her and her mother now?” Mia bit anxiously on her nails. Tears gathered in her eyes. “This can't happen. She had to do something. Should she—“At that moment, Mia's phone buzzed before she even reached the elevator.—Today. Make contact. Let him notice you. Make it look like an accident.—She read it twice to be sure of the instructions, then deleted it. Her stomach twisted, though not from nerves alone. She had been too anxious to eat breakfast. She was starving, but she had something important to do. She got out of her office chair, smoothed her skirt, tucked her hair behind her ear in the plain, flat style Lucero had approved, and went over to her superior's desk. The woman raised her head. “Ah. As enthusiastic as ever.” She laughed. “So what? Are you looking for another excuse to go to the boss?” Mia’s c
Chapter 5 “Kneel.” The words fell into the hall like a command from above. The pressure was so powerful that the weaker wolves also fell to their knees, while the strong ones could barely remain standing. The weight of the word settled. Gasps rang out across the hall. The elders stiffened. The

Chapter 2Damian stopped in front of her. He opens his eyes. His face twisted in disgust.“The fuck?” he muttered to himself but it was loud enough for everyone to hear. “Why her?” As soon as he spat out these words the whole room froze. Then their faces curved with mixed reactions. They began to
"What the fuck? Why her?" His voice echoed through the silent hall. Hundreds of mocking eyes turned toward Anais. Her Destined mate was staring at her like she was dirt stuck to his shoe.
