My blood boiled. Rage swelled in me, but my wrists were bound tight. There was nothing I could do. Not yet.

He and his men burst into laughter, loud and mocking, like I’d just told the best joke of the year.

I spat in his face.

"Don't ever touch me, you disgusting piece of trash!" I shouted. "I hate you all! You all deserve to die!"

His expression changed in an instant—from amused to murderous.
