Aria’s pov

The universe must be playing a trick on me. That’s the only explanation that makes sense. There’s no other way to explain everything that’s been happening lately. Being saved again by Lucien…….the one Isla calls the school’s golden boy wasn’t helping my case either. If everyone didn’t already hate me, they do now.

I walk through the hallway after my morning classes trying hard not to notice the shoves, the constant looks, the whispers and pointed fingers. Whispers and pointing I can take, but this shoving into the wall thing is getting ridiculous. I try to keep my head down, but it’s hard to ignore. I notice a particular group of girls staring at me with the kind of glare that could set a person on fire. The one in the middle, a red head with pretty crystals all over her hair and some kind of gothic makeup glare the hardest……witches. Even the witches hate me now. Wonderful.

Housekeeping class hadn’t helped to remove the dread in me all day. Setting tables, arranging napkins

Lucien’s povWe make it halfway down the corridor towards the exit before three witches block our path. The leader Hilda leans against the wall, all red curls and smile. She’s been chasing me since first year.“Lucien,” she purrs, “you’re back. I was starting to think you had forgotten us.”“Hard to forget someone who hexed my last girlfriend’s hair blue.”She laughs softly. “You should thank me. She looked better that way.”“Tragic you couldn’t find one to make your personality better.” Her smile falters, just slightly, but she steps aside. “Try not to cause another scene on your first day back. The wolves already think you’re trouble.”“They’re not wrong.”I move past her, ignoring the flicker of irritation behind her eyes. My friends snicker quietly. By nightfall, I’m back at my house outside campus, the ones reserved for coven heirs and leaders. It’s always quiet here, surrounded by trees exactly the way I love it. I pour myself a drink and stare out my balcony. I close my eyes i

Lucien's povThe girl runs barefoot through the ruins laughing, her brown hair flowing behind her…….her white dress catching fire at the edges. Smoke curls around her hair, turning it to gold beneath the moonlight. “Mo ghràdh” I called out. She turns towards me, her eyes shining with love.Suddenly the ground trembles. Someone screams her name and then her body jerks forward as a spear tears through her chest. Her blood hits my face.I wake up gasping. The ceiling above me spins. My hands grip the sheets as if they might anchor me to this reality. Sweat drenches my back, my heart pounded like it’s still trapped in that burning world. It takes a long moment before I realize I’m in my own bed.The visions started since I came back to Evermoor Academy. Always the image of her dying in different ways. I push myself up and drag a hand through my hair. The strands glow faintly in the dark, catching the early light slipping through the blinds. My mother used to joke that I was born dipped i

Aria's povMy supervisor stares at me the moment she walks into the kitchen. Her brows lift like she is seeing a ghost. I wonder what the look is about…….either because I am early for the first time since I started this duty, or she cannot believe I made it after yesterday’s disaster.“Morning,” I say quietly, keeping my head down as I scrub a pot like my life depends on it.She doesn’t answer right away. Her eyes trail over me like she’s checking for bruises, broken bones, maybe missing limbs. I must look too normal for what happened. Has the whole fight already made it around the school? Don’t supernatural people have better things to do than to gossip? She lingers by the doorway as if waiting for me to start a fire or break something. I ignore her and keep scrubbing. My arms move on their own, faster and harder, as if I can wash away what happened yesterday…….the fight, the humiliation, and the kiss that won’t leave my head.I shake my head and rinse the pot, trying to focus. It’s

Kael's povI almost marked her.The realization slams through me like a blow. I grit my teeth as I press harder on the gas. My car tires hiss over the wet asphalt, and the growl of the engine drowns out Ghost’s voice for only a moment before it crawls back into my head. The memory of her little moan breaks through my focus. The sound of it is enough to make my hands tremble. Her taste, the way she responded to me like she was made for me. Every soft breath, every shiver, every curve of her body molded perfectly against me…….it undid me. I can still feel her heartbeat hammering against my chest, her pulse calling to the beast in me, whispering mine."You should have marked her. She’s ours".“Shut up,” I hiss, though it’s useless. Ghost is restless, pacing beneath my skin, pushing, clawing, wanting to go back. He is all heat and hunger, the taste of that kiss consuming him.I slam the brakes and pull over, pressing my forehead against the wheel. I can’t breathe. My pulse roars in my ear

Aria’s pov“Mo ghràdh…”The voice rolls through the mist like music. A man’s silhouette stands before me, tall and shiny, his golden hair catching the strange light that isn’t sunlight but something else. He steps closer, each movement fluid like water. His hand brushes my cheek, and it feels real…..too real.“What does that mean?” My voice sounds fragile in the silence.“It means my lover,” his accent is rich and old, the words carrying centuries of longing. “I have waited for you.”I should be afraid. I should pull away and run but my body doesn’t move. His eyes hold me captive, blue like melted ice. “Waited?” my breath hitched. “How could you wait for someone you’ve never met?”He steps even closer, close enough that I can see the faint mark glowing at the base of his throat…..a symbol I’ve never seen, yet it stirs something deep in my chest.“Because my soul knew yours long before this life.” His hand slides to the back of my neck, his touch warm and reverent. “You’ve been lost
