Chapter Fifty-Three

That back to school giddyness and butterflies settled at the pit of my stomach ready to explode any moment from now. It just needs a trigger.

I smiled proudly as we sang the school's anthem and it came to mind that these were going to be my last few months of singing this anthem in this uniform, inside the four walls of this compound and with this same set of people.

"Marching song." Mrs Laura referred to the choir prefects after her announcements and lecture on the LGBTQ movement and how fast it was spreading amongst school seniors and how it wouldn't be condoned in Belleview.

The Jss1 students were newly admitted and couldn't get enough of themselves. I could understand their butterflies, new uniforms, status, compound. These kids were just a bunch of smiles and adorable faces.

They had no idea of the kind of stress that awaited them.
