We all sit around the living room in silence . Brandon is sitting on my left, while Shawn is on my right, Desmond chooses the single sofa facing me directly leaning forward with his usual seriousness, and Gabe sits a little apart from us in a single chair ever vigilant waiting to hear what comes next . They’re all staring at me as if they are waiting for some kind of reaction . Brandon starts talking first . “We have come to the realisation that these attempts are not random They’re all connected in one way or the other .” His voice is cool and calm as usual , He looks at Desmond. “ Can you tell us what you have found ?”

“Yes,” Desmond says without hesitation, his tone grim. “I would love to share the information with you .” He continues . “We’ve traced the patterns. The timing, the methods , it’s too deliberate. Whoever is behind this is watching us, testing us to see what makes us tick , waiting for the right moment to strike.”

I come to a sudden chilling realisation. “I am th

After a short while , I finally say, “I need a cup of coffee . I just need a break.” I feel the need to move so I walk into the kitchen . I see the pastry box and I gravitate to it like a magnet I pick up another pastry this time a white chocolate croissant. The taste of the rich white chocolate melts in my mouth the minute I take a bite , decadent and comforting rich . Sometimes all you meed is something sweet to balance the bitter or upsetting news you are receiving…I can hear them in the living room talking quietly exchanging views and thoughts . I put the kettle on the hob and make a fresh batch of coffee, the familiar smell wrapping around me like a comforter . I then lean on the counter, eating and sipping my coffee . Giving myself a moment of grace . A moment to exhale . By the time I have devoured my croissant and the last gulp of my coffee, I feel a bit better . When I walk into the living room , every pair of eyes in the living room is looking at me . As if

  • Aaliyah’s Return    Pastries

Pastries At about six, the doorbell rings, and I jump in my seat. Amanda glances at me, eyebrows raised. I ignore her and slip into the living room, where Gabe is accepting the pastry boxes from the dispatch. I clap my hands in delight. Brandon chuckles. “Aaliyah, you have such a sweet tooth.” “I do,” I reply, grinning. “And it’s definitely needed today, considering what’s happening later.” I open the top pastry box and pick out a strawberry tart. The moment I bite into it, it explodes in my mouth, and I can’t help but groan softly. Brandon stares at me transfixed as if the rest of the room has vanished, his wolf flashing in his eyes. I meet his gaze, unflinching, until Gabe coughs, trying to clear his throat as if he is choking . Amandas face turns red and starts fanning herself. “Brandon , your power is leaking,” Gabe says Brandon closes his eyes and reels it back in, He is now cool as a cucumber again …Only Gabe and Amanda seem to have been affected. Noah is too busy

  • Aaliyah’s Return    Caged in

Much later after having lunch, A sudden craving hits me. Pastries from the patisserie across the street are calling my name. I tried to think of something else but the craving is stuck to me like glue. I keep imagining biting into the buttery, melt-in-your-mouth flaky goodness with its perfect crust. What is life without a bit of sweetness? I think to myself. For one dangerous minute, I think about just going out without telling anyone. It's a few blocks away no one needs to know.… but then Sanity returns I will not make it out of the door before Brandon or Gabe catches me.… They would never approve, and they would have guards around me in an estate before I even made it across the pavement. I feel my frustration steadily building in my mind smh. I go into my bedroom for a few minutes and the craving will not let up. I feel so boxed in today, the silence feels suffocating and the echo of the constant steps of guards in rotation in the hallway is unnerving. Having the guards statione

  • Aaliyah’s Return    A Day in

I am up quite early the first thing I do is my meditation exercise. A calm mind and even calmer body allowing the silence in the flat to help me relax. After a long hot soak in the claw-foot bathtub tub I wear a stylish green blouse and a matching pale green skirt, ready to make my home office my little work center for the day. I leave my room and go into the kitchen to prepare breakfast. While leaning on the kitchen counter with my fave cup of coffee in my hand, I think about the series of events that have occurred in the past couple of days, trying to develop of form of action. All of a sudden I feel someone breathing down my neck, I yell and quickly turn around to find Brandon. “Are you trying to scare me?” I ask, startled. “I have been behind you for at least ten minutes Aaliyah,” he says, eyes serious. “Please you have to be more mindful of your surroundings. It’s dangerous .” I nod, a little sheepish. “Okay, I’ll take note. Thank you. Good morning.” “Good morning, Aa

  • Aaliyah’s Return    Attempted break

The sound of my phone ringing on my bedside wakes me up very early in the morning. Still half asleep, I look at the screen, and it's Gabe. I sit up abruptly, sleep clearing from my eyes instantly. My heart rate picks up. He wouldn’t call me at this time unless it were important.I answer immediately. “Gabe? What’s wrong?” “Boss,” his voice is steady but urgent, “there was another break-in at the store.” My heart sinks. “Again? Was there any damage this time?” “No, Boss,” he replies quickly. “But they tried to break the back door. The alarm went off, and they ran off.” “Please tell me they were caught?” I ask “Yes. This time they were caught. I’m about to call Mr Desmond to go down to the police station, stay with them during the investigation.” “Oh thank the goddess,” I say, relieved and frustrated by the constant attempts. A scapegoat is very necessary at this point to send a clear message to the attackers. “Now we will find out if it’s the same person who did it last time.”
