LOGINNancy’s P.O.V.
“What did you say?” I asked Chris, shocked by what he replied to my request for a meeting with Nathan.
“You heard me perfectly fine, Ms. Winters. You don’t have any direct business with Mr. Lombart. And all your professional matters are handled by your managers and assistant. So, if there is something that needs Mr. Lombart’s attention, ask your manager or assistant to request an appointment. Mr. Lombart doesn’t think that your direct involvement is necessary.”
I knew that Nathan would refuse to meet me, but this bluntness from Chris was unexpected.
I stomped my foot in a fit of rage and stormed away.
In the past five years, I understood Chris very well. That man was immune to almost everything. The only person who can make him bend is Nathan.
So, it was futile to argue with him. It would only escalate my blood pressure, nothing else.
I walked onto the escalator and closed my eyes while leaning on the back wall.
I needed to stay calm, but for how long?
It had already been six years since she was gone.
Yet, I was still standing at the same spot where I was at that time.
“Cynthia. You dead woman. Why can’t you leave Nathan completely?” I muttered angrily, finding nowhere to vent my anger and frustration.
I banged my fist at the back wall in frustration and jerked my head a little.
The door opened again, and I furrowed my brows in confusion when I saw Nathan’s secretary, Claire, standing outside the elevator.
What the hell?
She was at her cubicle when I left the floor.
How could she be at a lower floor level?
She gave me an indifferent look before stepping inside.
I clenched my fists tightly while stepping aside.
She hit the button for the ground floor and I groaned internally.
I forgot to press the button earlier and that’s why the elevator was still at the same floor. This was a common elevator. Nathan had his personal elevator.
If I hadn’t left nine years ago, I would be the one who married Nathan, and then I wouldn’t have to endure their arrogance.
If…. If I were Mrs. Lombart, they wouldn’t dare to show me this arrogance.
The elevator stopped at the ground floor and we both walked out of the elevator. I was just a step behind her.
I was already in 28 years old. Although I was a famous model and actress for now, with intense competition and young people with high ambitions entering this field every day, no one could predict for how long I would be able to enjoy this fame.
No, this can’t go like this anymore. I tried to win Nathan’s heart again by every possible trick, but the distance between us was still the same.
I heard him asking Chris to investigate someone, but I had no accomplice in the secretarial department who could help me spy on Nathan.
I succeeded in taking favor from Nathan’s mother, Rachel Lombart, but that didn’t change the fact that he even refused to let me, his female companion, in any event.
I closed the door of my car after entering the driver's seat and closed my eyes.
There was a time when Nathan’s world revolved around me, and he maintained our friendship even after he married Cynthia. Back then, he let me be his companion on a few occasions too.
Everything changed after Cynthia’s death.
Nathan stopped caring for me. He left me on my own accord.
If it weren’t for his mother, I would have finished long ago.
I slowly opened my eyes and took a deep breath.
I need to change my tactics now.
I took my phone out and dialed his mother’s number.
“Hey, Nancy. What’s up?” She asked me calmly, making my heart skip a beat.
The problem wasn’t the calmness in her voice, but the detachment.
“Hey, Rachel. I learn from one of my endorsers that SELINE has just launched their winter-fall collection in their showroom. I remember you like their series of fur coats. Let’s go shopping.” I asked her enthusiastically, but my heart was drumming hard against my ribcage.
“That’s a good idea. I will meet you there in an hour.” I took a deep breath of relief when she accepted the invitation.
“That’s great. I will wait for you there then.” I replied in the same way, and we both hung up.
Rachel loved Nathan so much. He was her pride. After Cynthia’s death, she was worried sick for Nathan and knowing his love for me in the past, she agreed to my persuasion.
Now, I needed to keep believing my persuasion so that she could convince Nathan to marry me.
I knew Nathan very well. I only needed a chance to go closer to him and I was sure that I would make him mine again.
I was about to start the car when my phone started ringing. I took the phone from the passenger’s seat, where I threw it earlier.
It was my private investigator whom I hired to keep eyes on Nathan’s whereabouts.
“Ms. Winters. I sent you last night report. Mr. Lombart had three business meetings last night, but one woman who appeared with Mr. Silva took my attention. Her name is Cynthia Williams.” My heart skipped so many beats in a row in fear.
“What did you say? What’s her name?” I yelled in panic this time.
“Relax, Ms. Winters. Her name is Cynthia Williams, but she is not Cynthia Lombart. I have investigated her too and sent you an additional file.” He replied and I immediately hung up and opened the mail.
My heart was now racing a marathon.
No, this can’t happen. Not now, not ever.
Cynthia is dead, and there is no way a dead comes back to life like this.
Surely it can happen in fiction, but not in real life.
A dead is dead.
My breath hitched when I saw her silhouette in the first photo attached to the mail.
She had her back towards the camera, but she looked familiar.
I saw her face in the next photo, which was completely different from Cynthia Lombart, but her eyes…
Nonononono… this is not happening. This….
I can’t let this woman around Nathan at any cost.
She may not be his wife, Cynthia Lombart, but her eyes….
They looked so familiar….
I immediately dialed a number and waited for him to pick up the call.
“Long time no see.” He asked me teasingly after picking up the call.
“I sent you something. Just see that first,” I asked him in a shaky voice.
Nathan’s P.O.V. (Continued)“You don’t need to buy anything for him. Cole is not like other children of his age. He is smart, and almost done with all the toys, especially puzzles, lego and all that sort of games and toys.” Cynthia replied to me with a faint and dotting smile on her lips, eyes sparking while she thought about her nephew. We entered the car at the same time, and she immediately buckled herself.“It seems that you have become cautious about car riding after that accident?” I asked her calmly, trying to find out more about her.She stiffened her grip on the strap tightened.“Yeah. Th…. That was brutal.” She whispered the response. I nodded once while driving the car.Mr. Silva told me that Cynthia is not comfortable with driving, and that’s why, I also excluded driving from her list of duties.“Tell me something more about your family, and you.” I asked her calmly, keeping the conversation going on.“You really want to know about my family?” she asked me in a surprised t
Nathan’s P.O.V.“Your nephew?” I asked Cynthia when she came back after finishing her call. She got a call two minutes ago, and she walked away after getting my permission.“Yeah. He has finished his homework and is now waiting for me to come back.” She replied with a dotting smile on her lips.I nodded in response. I could see that she loved her nephew. That dotting smile on her lips was motherly.I had seen this smile on my mother’s face numerous times.“We are done for today, right?” I asked her while standing up. Chris was out of the office to finish some other work.“Yes, Mr. Lombart. You have an early meeting with the planning department. Your next schedule for tomorrow.” She replied to me with a professional smile.“Then let’s go for dinner,” I replied to her while taking my suit jacket from the backrest edge of the single couch. I was sitting on the long couch to finish signing some documents.“Dinner?” She asked me, perplexed by what I said.“Yeah, Dinner. Dinner time is appr
Cynthia’s P.O.V. (Continued)I slowly walked inside, but my heart was racing hard. “Good morning, Mr. Lombart.” I greeted him politely, keeping my formal tone. The one that I used to greet Mr. Silva in the very beginning of my job as his assistant.“Good morning, Ms. Williams.” He greeted me formally too, busy with something on his laptop.I gave a curt nod to Chris when he glanced at me. He was standing beside Nathan’s chair on the other side of the table. I stopped right in front of Chris, on the other side of the table. My hands were clasped behind my back, and I kept my neck straight. His gaze was calm and composed, just like a CEO's should be.For me, it was a big relief. From the very beginning of our meeting, I always had this clear in my mind that we would have a professional relationship, and his attitude right now was just perfect.“I guess Chris has already told you that you will be responsible for all the official work with Chris.” He asked me in a casual manner.“Yes, Mr.
Cynthia’s P.O.V.I took a deep breath, trying to calm myself down while looking at the enormous building of Lombart & Lombart.I was here two weeks ago for business and now I am here today to join the company as the CEO’s executive assistant.I couldn’t deny that I wasn’t this nervous when I joined Mr. Silva.I didn’t want to think about the reason because I knew that it was Nathan Lombart who had caused my nervousness.“Six months, Cynthia. Within six months, you will be able to know if you want to stay here or go back. You promised him six months, and that’s it. Strictly professional, nothing personal.” I muttered to myself, but it didn’t help me this time.“Ms. Williams!” I flinched and looked at the person exclaiming my name with a startled expression.“What are you doing here? You should be at your desk by now.” She continued coming towards me with a surprised and concerned look.“Hi, Daisy. I…. I was on a personal call. That’s why I didn’t enter.” I muttered a lie after greeting
Nathan’s P.O.V. (Continued)My demeanor went cold immediately. “Do you really think that I will disrespect a woman and her dignity by treating her as my wife’s stand-in, Fiona?” I asked her coldly, putting my fork and knife on my plate.“Th… that’s not what I meant, Nathan, but her name is also Cynthia. Yo… you will never be able to forgive our Cynthia while calling her or ….. or you will forget her completely because of this new Cynthia. Yo… you shouldn’t hire her.” She replied to me in panic, anger evident in her voice, but she pressed on every word of her last statement.“Fiona.” Mom called her in a firm and soft voice before I could say something else to Fiona. We all looked at my mother.“Your assumptions are right, honey, but we all know Nathan very well. When I brought Cynthia to this home, everyone said that she had a slight resemblance to Nancy, but Nathan never saw Nancy in her. And there are plenty of girls and women with the same name. So, you don’t need to worry that Nath
Nathan’s P.O.V.“Hey, Fiona.” I greeted Fiona while descending the stairs when I saw Theo and Fiona entering the living room with a maid.“Wow! The prince of the city honored us with a dinner, huh?” Fiona taunted me in reply, looking at me with disdain.“Hey, don’t provoke the prince, okay? Or else, we will be in a grave problem.” Theo also teased, bumping his shoulder onto hers.I chuckled but didn’t react because this was their way to tell me that I ignored them for a while.“Theo, Fiona!” Mom exclaimed excitedly while exiting the kitchen with a maid.“Aunt Emma!” Fiona exclaimed while rushing towards Mom, while Theo plopped himself to the couch.“How are you, darling?” Mom asked her happily while embracing her.I also walked to the couch and sat down on the single couch while looking at Mom and Fiona’s interaction.
Cynthia’s P.O.V.“You need to take good care of yourself and Cynth, okay? You know very well how careless she is when it comes to her health and eating habits.” I glared at Juliette in disbelief while she continued instructing Cole in a stern voice.“I got this, Mom. You don’t worry.” Cole comforte
Lucas’s P.O.V.“I like Cynthia, Dad. She is beautiful and loving.” Celia said to me when I was tugging her inside the sheet.“She is, hun. Now be the good girl that you already are and sleep now.” I patted her cheek dotingly while coaxing her.“But you don’t like her, right?” she asked me again in
Cynthia’s P.O.V. (Continued)“Of course.” I chirped, faking a big smile, but I felt troubled. The Lombart brothers are nothing but trouble. And now I was having a foreboding feeling of walking right into their tra
Cynthia’s P.O.V.“Here are your milkshakes.” I chirped while putting the glasses of their milkshakes in front of my nephews and sat down on the other chair.“Where is your milkshake, Cyn?” Cole asked me with concern while taking the straw
