I was lying on the bed, taking the vitamin pills prescribed by the doctor to keep my baby healthy, when Ryder entered the room.
"Alpha, you weren't supposed to enter yet," the doctor said. "But since you're the father of her baby, I understand your actions."
Embarrassed, I blushed as the doctor referred to Ryder as the father of my child, even though he wasn't. For some reason, I found myself wishing he was the real father. Apollo was a jerk.
The doctor instructed Ryder to take good care of me and ensure I ate enough fruit. He also warned him to make sure I didn't get exposed to cold again, as it was not good for the baby in my womb.
"Is there anything else I should be doing to take care of her and the baby?" Ryder asked.
The doctor hesitated before telling him that our baby wasn't very healthy. Ryder clenched his fist in anger, visibly upset.
"What can we do to ensure the baby's health?" Ryder asked tensely.
"The baby will be born in a few months," the doctor said. "By then, she shouldn't undergo any stress."
"I'll take care of her," Ryder assured the doctor. Ryder moved closer to me on the bed and whispered. “Who is the father of your child?”
"It's Apollo," I replied in hushed tones. "Even though I was drunk the night we had sex, I'm sure of it."
Ryder's eyes narrowed, and his jaw tightened. "That bastard," he muttered.
"He's a playboy," Ryder continued, shaking his head. "Ever since his wolf killed his last girlfriend, he's been sleeping around with different girls."
"All he did to me was unacceptable," I said, feeling angry and hurt.
Just then, Ryder's beta entered the room, looking tense. "Alpha, Apollo's at the door. He wants to come inside, but we're stopping him."
Sounds of grunts and struggle came from outside the room, and Ryder followed his beta out. As I lay there, I couldn't help but feel grateful for Ryder.
As the doctor exited the room, I overheard Ryder and Apollo's discussion outside. The room wasn't soundproof, so I could distinctly hear what they were saying.
"I can't believe you want to see her after everything you've put her through!" Ryder shouted.
Apollo's voice was low and menacing. "If your men weren't holding me back, I could have easily kicked you out of my way."
"I don’t know why you care about my mate when you don’t care about anyone, not even your soon-to-be Luna, Hazel." Apollo snarled.
"Don’t change the topic! Zelda needs to be taken care of. Her baby is unhealthy. You should stop being a jerk and take care of her, regardless of whether the baby is yours or not. You can decide what to do after it's born," Ryder concluded.
I heard footsteps approaching, and the door creaked open. Ryder and Apollo walked in, standing on opposite sides of my bed. Apollo leaned in to touch me, but I hit his hand away.
"Don't pretend to care about me," I growled.
Apollo's blue eyes flashed with anger. "You should behave yourself when an alpha like me is giving you attention."
"Attention? You mean when you left me in the street to die?" I sneered.
Ryder stepped forward, his hand on Apollo's arm. "We believe you, Zelda. The baby is Apollo's, and he will take care of you until it's born."
Apollo glared at Ryder. "I will make sure to take care of her, but if the baby isn't mine…” he paused. “I will take you to my pack," he concluded.
Shaking my head, I replied, "I don't want anyone to take care of me. I just want to go back to my old life."
Ryder's expression softened. "I know this isn't what you wanted. But you're carrying his child, and we have to protect you."
Apollo crossed his arms. "And I won't let you out of my sight until the baby is born."
Sighing, I sank back into the pillows. This was not the life I had imagined for myself, but for now, I had no choice but to rely on these two alphas to keep me safe.
After being discharged from the hospital, Apollo paid my bills and led me to his car, with Ryder following and sitting in the front seat beside Apollo's beta, Seth, who was driving.
I was stuck in the back seat with Apollo, who put his arm around my shoulder and pulled me closer. I felt a strange sensation as he held me, and I struggled to break free, but he held me firmly. "Stay calm," he said before releasing me. He turned away, but I still felt drawn to him. He was still my mate, even though I hated him.
As we drove in silence, I looked out the window and wondered how things had taken a different turn. I wasn't scared about what would happen when Apollo found out the child was his. Instead, I imagined him begging for my forgiveness and smiled.
Abruptly, Apollo noticed Seth staring at him. "What's wrong, Seth?" he asked.
"Nothing, Alpha," Seth replied hesitantly.
"I can sense something's off. Tell me what it is," Apollo demanded, his voice firm.
Seth sighed. "I wanted to ask if you were with a girl when you first arrived at your father's pack."
Apollo's grip on the seat belt tightened. "Why do you ask?"
"I remember seeing you leave with a blonde girl, but I didn't get a good look at her face," Seth said, his voice hesitant. "I'm sorry, Alpha. I didn't mean to overstep."
Apollo's jaw clenched. "What else do you remember?"
“In the morning, I followed your scent to a hotel and got you out of there, leaving the girl a note and money since she was still asleep,” Seth said, his voice low. I knew Seth was talking about me, but I knew they wouldn’t believe it if I said anything, so I just listened. We drove in silence after that, the tension between them palpable. As Apollo and I entered the packhouse, I couldn't help but feel overwhelmed by the sheer grandeur of it all. The spotless marble floors and the crystal chandelier hanging from the ceiling illuminated the living room. I had always heard rumors about how luxurious the packhouse was, but seeing it firsthand was an entirely different experience. Ryder couldn't come in with us because Hazel called him, and he left early. Alpha Nicholas greeted me warmly and took my hand, kissing it gently. Although he was kind, I couldn't help but feel guilty for being here with his son when I had thought I was supposed to marry him. As we walked further into the pack
Labor felt endless, the ruthless rain pounding against the windows, echoing the chaos within my body. Thunder rumbled, shaking the room's very foundations, and adding to the mess unfolding around me. Pain overcame me, radiating from every fiber of my being, making it impossible to concentrate on anything else. The male doctor and pack maids rushed to assist me, their efforts seemingly in vain. My forehead glistened with sweat, and my heart pounded in my chest. Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, the moment arrived. Exhausted and weak, I lay on the bed, desperately trying to catch my breath. Yet, my relief was short-lived. Apollo stormed into the room, his eyes devoid of warmth. Tension crackled in the air as he approached the bed, hooked on our newborn son. It was as if he sought evidence, some form of proof that the child was truly his. "Little bird, step aside," Apollo commanded with harshness, his gaze piercing our innocent baby boy on the bed. Weak and confused, I sat
I took a deep breath, trying to steady myself. "What are you talking about, Apollo?" I asked, my voice trembling slightly."This DNA test proves that the child isn't mine," Apollo replied, his voice filled with anger and accusation. "You lied to me."My heart sank at his words. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. "Apollo, I didn't lie to you," I protested, tears welling up in my eyes. "I don't understand how the test could be wrong.""Don't play dumb with me," he growled, his eyes burning with rage. "You slept with someone else. You're a lying... you're a lying woman."His words hit me like a slap in the face. I couldn't believe that the man I loved, the man I had built a life with, could think so little of me. "No, Apollo, I would never betray you like that," I pleaded, my voice barely above a whisper. He scoffed, his face twisted with contempt. "Save your lies for someone else," he spat. "I've heard enough."Tears streamed down my face as I struggled to find the right words. "Apo
ALPHA APOLLO'S POV I burst into Seth's room, my heart thrumming with a volatile mix of anger and betrayal. The sight that met my eyes was infuriating—him entwined with a whore, their naked bodies shamelessly intertwined. Without a second thought, I seized her by the hair, forcefully wrenching her away from Seth, and hurled her out of the room, depriving her even of her clothes. Planting my leg on the edge of the bed, I leaned in, my voice a low growl that matched the storm brewing within me. "You're a fucking imbecile. Turns out, the baby wasn't mine, just as I suspected. Remember seeing me with that blonde girl? Even if I had slept with her, I would have taken every precaution to ensure she didn't conceive." Seth nodded, visibly trembling with fear. I locked eyes with him, my gaze penetrating his very soul. "Now, spill it, Seth. What else are you hiding?" He stuttered, his voice barely audible above a whisper. "I…I sabotaged all your condoms. Your father instructed me to do it. He
Zelda’s POVI walked through the pack house, my baby boy, August cradled in my arms. It had been a few weeks since I arrived at Alpha Nathan's pack, and while I appreciated his hospitality, I refused to sit idly by and do nothing. I had always been independent, and motherhood didn't change that. I wanted to contribute, to work alongside the pack, and prove my worth."Zel, you don't have to do this," Tracy said, concern etched on her face. "You should be resting and taking care of yourself and the baby."I smiled at Tracy, appreciating her worry for me. "I understand your concern, Tracy, but I need to feel useful. Besides, taking care of the farm work keeps me active and helps me clear my mind."Alpha Nathan approached us, his eyes gleaming with admiration. "Zelda, I must say, I'm impressed by your determination. It's refreshing to see someone who wants to contribute rather than relying solely on others."I felt a sense of pride wash over me at his words. "Thank you, Alpha Nathan. I do
Alpha Ryder’s POVThe sun beat down mercilessly on the open field of my packhouse, intensifying the tension that hung in the air. I stood there, sword in hand, facing off against Hazel. How I despised this cursed arrangement, how I despised the moon goddess for denying me the freedom to choose my own mate.Hazel was a skilled fighter, her every move calculated and precise. I could sense her determination, her desire to win this duel. But in truth, I wished I could strike her down with my sword and be done with it all. I had no interest in her, no desire to be tied to her for the rest of my life. It was an obligation forced upon me by my late father, a promise made to her father. As we clashed blades, the sound of metal meeting metal rang through the air. My muscles strained with every strike, my mind filled with a mixture of frustration and anger. The sweat dripped down my forehead, stinging my eyes, but I refused to let it distract me.In the back of my mind, thoughts of another woma
Zelda’s POVIt was a brand-new day. After putting August to sleep, I headed to the farmland of the packhouse to join the other servants in their work. It was a routine for me, and I found solace in the simplicity of the tasks. The sun was high in the sky, casting its warm rays upon us as we toiled away."I heard the Alpha and his bride don't get along," one of the servants gossiped."Yeah, I think..." I interrupted them."Stop gossiping and do your fucking jobs," I reprimanded, prompting them to glare at me and keep their mouths shut.A guard approached me, interrupting our work. "Ms. Zelda, the Alpha and his mate would like to invite you to join them for breakfast," he informed me. I was taken aback by the invitation. Alpha Nathan and Tracy always ate alone, so it was unusual for them to include me. My mind raced with thoughts and questions as I followed the guard to the dining room.As I entered the room, I noticed the intimate setting. Alpha Nathan and Tracy were seated close to ea
Tracy’s POVAfter Zelda left, anger surged through my veins like molten lava. How dare she spout such lies about Alpha Nathan? I couldn't let her tarnish our chance at happiness. The maids around me trembled nervously, sensing the tension thickening in the room."Pour the water on me," I commanded sharply, my frustration seeping into my voice. The maids hurriedly complied, dipping their hands into the water and splashing it over my body. They were clearly on edge, fully aware of the potential consequences of Zelda's words. As the cool water cascaded over me, I scolded them, my words carrying a warning. "None of you will utter a single word about what Zelda said. If anyone betrays my trust, you will face severe consequences."Their voices quivered as they chorused their agreement, their fear palpable in the air. But amidst their compliance, one of the maids stood defiantly, her eyes blazing with stubborn resolve. I locked eyes with her, my patience waning rapidly."You will say it," I
