CHAPTER SIXTEEN: SHADOWS OF DECEIT

Zelda’s POV

It was a brand-new day. After putting August to sleep, I headed to the farmland of the packhouse to join the other servants in their work. It was a routine for me, and I found solace in the simplicity of the tasks. The sun was high in the sky, casting its warm rays upon us as we toiled away.

"I heard the Alpha and his bride don't get along," one of the servants gossiped.

"Yeah, I think..." I interrupted them.

"Stop gossiping and do your fucking jobs," I reprimanded, prompting them to glare at me and keep their mouths shut.

A guard approached me, interrupting our work. "Ms. Zelda, the Alpha and his mate would like to invite you to join them for breakfast," he informed me. I was taken aback by the invitation. Alpha Nathan and Tracy always ate alone, so it was unusual for them to include me. My mind raced with thoughts and questions as I followed the guard to the dining room.
