Chapter 02 - Kindness over Selfishness

CHAPTER 02 - KINDNESS OVER SELFISHNESS

Today's inflation was taking her into a complex test where either she could choose herself or that old lady.

Seeing the fees, Selena became worried when she remembered her mom's tips.

She slowly bent down to the counter and looked at the nurse with a cute smile on her face.

Her puppy eyes flickered, sending hopeful twinklers towards her.

"Miss, can I get a discount, please? I don't have enough money, please."

Knowing these simple tricks, the nurse started laughing. "Ma'am, we can't give a discount in the hospital. It's not a clothing store."

Her lips soon turned into a tiny pout as she leaned back and paid the bill.

"Please, take care of grandma. I'm not from her family. However..."

She took out a phone and handed it to the nurse. "However, it's grandma's phone. Maybe, you'll find someone's contact number from this."

She was about to walk away when the doctor came out and called her from behind.

"Miss!"

Turning back, she walked towards the doctor. "Is grandma alright?"

Passing her an assuring smile, he nodded. "Yes, Miss. Your grandma fainted due to weakness. Please, make sure she eats on time. You can meet her now."

Bowing to the doctor, she walked inside the room, where her gaze fell on the grandma lying on the bed.

Smiling a little, she sat beside her and caressed her hand when the grandma said. "Thank you, dear. You saved me today."

"Pleasure is mine, that I can help you somehow. Grandma, the doctor, asks you to eat on time. Take care of your health."

She gently raised her hand and patted Selena's head. "Thank you, dear. Please, wait for a while. My grandson will come and pay you the fee."

As she stated, Selena refused the money.

"There is no need for that, Grandma. I have to go now. I still have interviews to attend."

As she started walking away, Grandma tried to stop her. But by then, she had already moved out of the room.

Standing outside the hospital, she called her best friend.

Selena: Hey, Camila. Can you come and pick me from the city hospital?

Camila: How come you ended up in the city hospital, Selena? Are you alright?

Selena: I'm all okay. It's a long story. I'll tell you later, but come and pick me. I don't have enough money left.

Camille: Wait, I'm coming.

Hanging the call, she grazed down when someone bumped into her.

"AGH!"

Without even asking about her condition, he got up and started running towards the hospital.

Groaning in pain, Selena tried to see his face, but before she could even glance, he already disappeared from her sight.

"What rude person is in the world? He doesn't even care to give me a hand."

The thing that remained was his brooch lying on the ground. When Selena stood up, rubbing her bump, her eyes fell on that brooch.

Bending down, she picked up the brooch and glanced at it.

"Does this belong to the person who bumped into me? It seems a little expensive. It proves that rich people are always rude."

As she was in her thoughts, Camila called her name out, making her come back to her senses.

"Selena?"

Turning back, she flinched. "Camila?"

"Yeah, me. What are you doing here?"

She quickly hid the brooch in her pocket.

"Ugh! I just met a sick cat. See, my elbow is also bleeding.

She showed it when Camila started panicking. "Oh, god. It's bleeding, Selena. Let's go to the hospital."

She held her hand and started dragging her inside when Selena pulled her back. "It's just a scratch, girl. I'll put the ointment at home, and it'll be alright."

"But what about infection? What if it becomes a serious problem till we reach home?"

Annoyed, she rolled her eyes.

"Girl, we live in the nearer building. How can it happen so fast? Let's go back home. I'm hungry already."

She held her hands and dragged her away as Camila followed her.

...................................

As soon as the nurse told Shawn about his grandma, he quickly drove to the hospital. Not even caring about who he bumped on, he ran inside.

"WHERE IS MY GRANDMA?" Shawn shouted out of breath as the nurse asked him to lower his voice.

"It's a hospital, Sir. Keep your voice low."

"But where is my grandma? What happened to her?"

Pointing her finger towards a room, she replied. "Your grandma became weak and fainted on the road. However, a kind young girl helped her and admitted your grandma to the hospital."

He thanked the nurse and quickly ran inside the room.

Heavily breathing, he rested his back against the wall when his grandma called his name.

"Shawnie?"

There were tears in his eyes when he walked towards his grandma.

"Granny?"

Seeing him crying like this, Grandma pulled him closer and hugged him tightly.

"Aww! Shawnie, Granny is alright. See?"

Finally, a smile appeared on his face as he nodded his head. "You know how much I love you, Granny. At least, take care of your health for me."

She giggled while caressing his head. "Okay, my lovely grandson. Granny will listen to you."

"By the way, Granny. I heard a girl saved you. Do you know where she is? I want to thank her."

Hearing about Selena, Grandma couldn’t hold her emotions back and just kept admiring her.

"That little girl was too sweet. She even paid my bills. Shawnie, I want to ask you something."

He held her hands while gently kissing them. "Anything, Granny."

"I always want you to marry a girl who knows how to respect, love, and take care of others. Will you fulfill your grandma's last wish, Shawnie?"

While listening to her, He nodded, showing his sincerity. "I'll do anything for you."

"Please, make that girl my granddaughter. Marry her for me, Shawnie."
